What a delight! Three septuagenarian friends grow old in their own way, raising their own version of hell. I love how they still fight both the establishment and trendy clubs that have moved into the neighborhood. The latter by hanging out there with their friends until it's no longer considered cool. This was so much fun.
The art is just the slightest bit cartoony. Just enough to convey emotions. It reminded me of Gabriel Rodriguez in that regard.
This was a sweet little graphic novel going down memory lane for a group of old geezers. I found it enjoyable and fun.
“The Old Geezers Vol. 1” by Wilfrid Lupano is a heart-warming and entertaining graphic novel that follows the adventures of three septuagenarians - Antoine, Emile, and Pierrot - as they process grief, confront secrets from the past, and continue to create new memories with family and friends. I found myself laughing out loud numerous times throughout this story. With this being the very first graphic novel that I've ever read, I also found that I thoroughly enjoyed having the visual aspect equally as much as the story itself. I look forward to reading more graphic novels, especially from this talented author!

“The Old Geezers Vol. 1” by Wilfrid Lupano is a wonderful collection of the first two graphic novels in the series. Antoine, Emile, and Pierrot are the three old geezers in the title – friends since their younger days, now in their 70s, they still play off each other and reminisce about their glory days, the 1950s, with all of the cultural upheaval that took place back then.
The first story, “Alive and Still Kicking”, deals with secrets revealed at a funeral, an affair that Antoine must avenge. His two friends take off after him, along with his pregnant granddaughter. We see the flashbacks, the stories, the ever-present march of time, leading to a bittersweet conclusion.
The second story, “Bonny and Pierrot”, follows soon after the first. A kind deed by the granddaughter leads to unexpected consequences, as Pierrot the anarchist is determined to find his long-lost love, with his friends once again riding to the rescue. But not is all as it seems.
The stories are well written, the illustrations are magnificent and really capture the feel and the motion of the narrative. Flashbacks help fill in the blanks as wistful reminisces. I hope I am as adventurous and exciting when I become an old geezer myself.

'The Old Geezers: Volume 1' by Wilfrid Lupano with art by Paul Cauuet is a graphic novel about growing old, but sometimes not necessarily growing up.
Antoine, Emile and Pierrot have been friends since boyhood. They grew up and grew apart ideologically. In the first story, a common friend has died and brings them all back together to reminisce about playing pirates as boys or protesting together.
In the second story, an act of kindness creates a crisis for one of the gentleman when he receives a mysterious package signed by someone he lost years ago. The plan to correct it involves striking back at an annoying bread chain.
The aged aren't typically depicted like this in American literature. Leave it to the French to show that just because we get older, doesn't mean we aren't up for some mischief with old friends. The art is fun and detailed. I really liked the story and the characters.

The Old Geezers Vol. 1 is fantastic. The three elderly men are so full spunk and vitality. And let us not forget the vivacious and very much pregnant granddaughter that is along for the ride. At least for the first half anyway lol.
These men take on old age and kick its butt. They reminisce about the old days, go on adventures to different countries, are very much involved with the new addition, a beautiful baby girl, and continue to look out for each other through the good and the bad.
Very, very much recommended!
Big thanks to NetGalley, the publisher, and Wilfrid Lupano for an ARC in return for an honest review.
A well-done graphic novel!
I love how it is historically relevant and how the characters seem so realistic.
The old geezers remind me so much of my grandparents and my grand uncles and aunts!
I like how the plot works based on memories of the characters, what they went through together.
The characters are unique and so alive and so much fun!
I love the comic vibes when it comes to the artstyle and art sequence.
The dialogue bubbles have been so convenient that for once in my life I am not complaining about them even though I read the whole graphic novel as an ebook ARC.
This one is going to get around a lot.
I can feel it.
Thanks NetGalley for the copy.

I laughed. And laughed. And said I don’t know how many times he didn’t...omg he did say that! I hope when I am 80, I am as carefree yet loving as these old geezers are!
This was an absolutely adorable, heart breaking read! The colors were exquisite and the story if these little old men was heartwarming. I picked this up for a topic during a readathon called "Bromance" and it did not disappoint! Would read again. :)
A book about 1960s French socialists who have aged disgracefully into their 70s and older (much, much older), and are probably even more radical than ever.
I loved this book. It's very French and very funny. It's not just that these pensioners haven't lost any of the fire that has fuelled their societal anger, but that they have to square this with their age and the boatload of memories they have.
It also helps that the art is spectacular, with extra care taken for characters' expressions.
In short: less "ok boomer", and more "ooOOKAY kaBOOMer!!".
Just because you get old, doesn't mean you stop having adventures. Three old friends get back together for the funeral of one of their wives. The day after the funeral, the husband is given a letter from his late wife by their lawyer. The letter causes the old man to drive back to his home, get a gun, and drive off. His friends and heavily pregnant granddaughter are rightly concerned, so they take off after him, and so begins the adventure.
The Old Geezers: Volume 1 is an eccentric graphic novel following the lives of three old geezers and one of their granddaughters.
I really enjoyed this book! It's a fun ride that goes back and forth between the 50s (the youth of our leads) and present day. They get into shenanigans and seem like a fun group of dudes! Not only is it fun, but it goes over loss, friendship and love in a unique yet intriguing way. I honestly would love to see more books like this in the future, or even continue with this series. It's a great and one-of-a-kind graphic novel.
Three out of five stars.

Books featuring grumpy old men have become some of the funniest I've read lately. This graphic novel was pretty funny. I really liked the illustrations. Lots of humor and wit with these old geezers (and a granddaughter) and their adventures.
Memory, betrayal, aging, love, lies, truth, repentance, family, anarchy, capitalism, good bread, and all the other quintessential topics in life are tackled by this wonderful graphic novel collection. The characters are lively, fully formed, have scars from pain and joy down to their bones and are great to get to know. Aging isn't something our culture is comfortable with and neither is love and loss and this collection does a great job of examining both. Not only the best European comic I've ever read, but one of the best comics period I've ever read.

I enjoyed this comic. The the old men it was about were humorous and the illustrations were pretty cool too. I would recommend this comic to those who enjoy senior comedy and shenanigans. I am told this was made into a movie and I think it could work.

An amusing story about three men in their seventies who meet up at the funeral of the wife of one of them. One of them, Antoine, is given a letter from his deceased wife in which she confesses to an affair. Antoine the decides to travel to Italy to confront the man his wife had an affair with. Unfortunately this man now has dementia as Antoine discovers.
Meanwhile Antoine's other two friends and his pregnant grandaughter chase after him in her battered old van. As the three men travel to Italy they remember their past history together as work colleagues, their union activities and activism and their attempts to change the world for the better.
Together they realise there is still much for them to do and their age isnt a barrier to their activism.
It is an amusing story with serious messages about life, love and the environment. The artwork is good and the story is intriguing.

Humorous, unique. I enjoyed this graphic novel — particularly, its color scheme and eye-catching style.
This was so good! Such a fun story with very memorable characters. It maintains a fun and easy tone while still including some crude humor when needed. I love that it's telling a story about seniors and showing that you are still a person full of personality after 50. It's not something shown a lot. I would definitely read more of this.
I had a wonderful time reading this graphic novel. It wasn’t always clear what was going to happen next, and that was half the fun of reading it. These old friends still had plenty of life in them, and were willing to do what was needed to get some answers about their past. This led to some tough moments for them, but in the end things came together as best as could be expected. This might not be a graphic novel for everyone, but some readers are sure to enjoy it.
I read the first novel some times ago and I loved it. The second one is as good as the first one and loved it as well.
It's very French and very European. You can love or hate but you cannot help laughing or thinking about the past of the Old Geezers.
I strongly recommend it.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine
