I finally got around to reading this graphic novel and I absolutely loved it! I really wished that the volume was longer so that I could get more engrossed in the world. I will definitely be continuing the series so I can get to know the characters a lot more. I am expecting this world to be absolutely mind blowing once I get into it further!

What the heck did I read?! A western that is set in the future and has dinosaurs and aliens. It was a smorgasbord, to be sure. It was funny but snort funny, not laugh-out-loud funny. It was just plain weird.

Well, that was weird....
But it worked. Totally worked. For me, at least- I can tell this isn't going to be everyone's jam. We get plopped down into a story with no explanation of what's going on, where we are, when we are, and we just go from there. I'm not going to try and explain all of that, it's better if you go in knowing nothing (in my opinion, anyway). You'll figure it out as you go along, like I did. There is so much going on here- it's a Western, it's scifi, it's fantasy, there are dinosaurs, robots, some kind of crazy demon skulls that give the bearer powers, and a bad-ass little girl from another dimension on her way to becoming a gun-fighting legend. The story just sort of washes over you like a trippy dream, and the artwork fits the story perfectly. There's so much detail going on, with objects from our place and time popping up to make you wonder how they got there, and the coloring is just gorgeous. At first, the way the faces were drawn bugged me, but it so fits with the overall oddness of everything that that gripe sort of faded away. The little girl is especially well done- her expressions are so emotive, perfect for a child her age. I'll be looking out for the next volume for sure!

'Gunland Vol. 1' with story and art by Captain Artiglio is a fever dream graphic novel full of weird ideas and strange art.

The story lets you figure things out as you go. You find yourself in a weird West world where people ride dinosaurs and odd skulls can confer strange powers. There are a couple bandit brothers. There is an orphan girl with an unclear past and a dead shot aim with firearms.

Sometimes you just have roll with the ideas in graphic novel and hang on for the ride. I'm glad I did here. What I found was some trippy world-building, some ugly characters and something that made me want to read more. Maybe that something was also the pretty cool art throughout this book.

I received a review copy of this graphic novel from Diamond Book Distributors and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.

I loved the art style - krazy cat meets magic meets skateboard decks? - and the characters and world were really well created. I was interested in the setting and cared about the people, but the plot is as empty and bloody as a spaghetti western (which might be the point).

An oddball, sci-fi, spaghetti western with dinosaurs replacing horses. I found the character designs infuriating at times. Some of the characters looked like muppets with detachable noses while others looked normal. I definitely saw some James Stokoe influences as well.

I received an arc of this book from Netgalley in exchange of honest review. Gunland is a graphic novel about a brothers of outlaw trying to figure out the mystery of magic skulls given by their father and a mysterius girl they found in a strange land. The setting is rich and imaginative; it is wild west, there are dinosaurs and magic that blend with our everyday life' technologies. The backgrounds are drawn detailed and the art style itself is well. The character design in this book is quite diverse and unique. I especially like the No Name girl.

Alas the earlier part of the comic is hard to get into. It's not gripping enough. The book start getting interesting around 2/3 through. The minimum explanation in earlier pages also confused me a lot altough it is treated later in the story.

Overall it's a nice book.

The plot is set in a weird place in the wild west where there is coexistence of dinosaurs, robots and humans. There is action and drama in the story. The illustrations are colourful and chaotic. It is an interesting read.
Thanks NetGalley and the publisher for the eArc for review.

Kind of a cool concept (a multidimensional Western with dinosaurs and aliens) but some of the straight-up UGLIEST art I have ever seen in my life. Volume 1 leaves a lot of loose threads and unanswered questions, but I don't know if I can stomach the art to get through volume 2.

This is a wild west meets dinosaurs meets aliens meets time travel and magical skulls meets intergalactic species kind of graphic novel, and I admit it throws you directly in the midst of everything, but you slowly get the hang of this world and how big and vast it is.

I'm actually intrigued to read a 2nd volume to know more about the characters and what's going to happen to them. The world building is great, and while the art style isn't my favorite, some of the full pages spreads were great!

I thank Netgalley and Magnetic Press & Diamond Book for the digital ARC.

Thanks to the publishers for sharing this one. It's a bizarre comic and you kind of just have to roll with the craziness to enjoy it. I loved the way the dinosaurs were drawn. My full review appears on Weekend Notes.

The description of this book sounded kind of weird, but sometimes I like weird so I figured I'd give it a shot. I had a hard time following what was going on, who were the heroes and villains. I liked the art. I liked the combination of cowboys and dinosaurs. I and I really wanted to know more about the girl. Her sections were definitely the most compelling. Overall, though, I didn't love it.

Ominous but fun, colorful but dreary, Gunland introduced enjoyable characters into a western setting. The characters all feel knowable and confident in the story they inhabit.

Hmmm… Cowboys vs Aliens was always slagged off, but this, Cowboys vs Dinosaur-Riding-Robot-Police with a side of Super-Power-Giving-Skulls is deemed acceptable? In that palette? Nu-uh. DNF.

The best word that represent this Graphic Novel is CRAZINESS. The whole time I was surprised with what happened and the characters that showed up. Here we have dinosaurs, robots, magic and parallel dimensions!
All of this crazy stuff was my favorite part of the story, but I felt a little lost during my reading. I had a lot of questions at the same time, but just a little of these questions had answer.
Confusion it's another good word to use when I'm talking about this book, specially because the fights that I only understood what happened at the end.

I liked the story in the biggest part, the universe is cool and immersive and the characters are charismatic. But I couldn't like them, I just cared about 1 character and the rest of them didn't look so interesting to me at the point to care about them.
I really liked the antagonists, the were the best.

The illustrations are very beautiful and with a perfect choose of colors. I really liked this!

This title did have a certain amount of manic over the top charm. It’s got old West bandit gunmen (and kids) on a distant planet with dinosaurs, magic, high technology, vampires are mentioned and I’m pretty sure they threw the kitchen sink in there too somewhere. It was okay and if the description sounds good to you I think you will enjoy it but it’s probably not for everyone.
I read a digital galley copy ahead of publication and it was a weird photonegative for all the illustrations so I can’t speak much as to the art. It looked ok the way I read it but I don’t have a good sense for what it’s really supposed to look like.

Mad Max meets The Muppets. This graphic novel has such a unique art style. I loved the way the pastel colors were contrasted by the rough and tough environment. I found the story a little bit hard to understand at first. I ended up enjoying it because of the characters. You just fall in love with the young protagonist. I just wish I understood a little more the politics and the world.

This was SUCH a fun read. I love the intersection of western and space. The No Name Kid was so amazing and her development was great. The artwork is also stunningly beautiful. The huge scapes were just so good.

Science fiction western? Oh, yes. The artwork and narrative contained in this book is colorful and attention-getting. Gunland is an entertaining read and a fun graphic novel.

This is such an interesting world, with dinosaurs and filled with magic in a western like setting. But, the first issues were so confusing and I didn't understand at all were the story was going. I had finally manage to get my thoughts around things when the volume ended. The characters was pretty much all over the place and I somewhat had a tough time with the illustrations, they felt very gritty and mushy.

But the ending got me hooked and I'll definitely read the next installment in the series.
