What a simple yet striking idea: superhero Mr. Invincible can cross the panels of the comic's pages and reach into past and future scenes, thus change the course of events in stunning ways.

Once I got my mind around this brilliant concept, I was fascinated how Mr. Invincible was able to 'predict' events because he'd already been there - and so much more mind-bending situations. However, once I became familiar with the way this worked, I have to admit the comic strips became somewhat repetitive and in the end I was not as hyped anymore. I suggest to not read the book in one sitting, but pick a couple of stories each time to keep up the fun.

'Mister Invincible #2: Local Hero' with story and art by Pascal Jousselin is a series of comics and gags featuring a superhero who reaches beyond the bounds of the panel he is in.

In a series of short stories, we meet Mister Invincible who can reach ahead in the comics or below to help catch criminals and save cats from trees. He is joined by Two Dee who exists in two dimensions, and reaches far away for objects that remain small. They fight a villain who can jump through the middle of a page and into the next one.

This is the second volume I've read, and even in the 1st, the gags were running a bit thin. It's still a very clever comic and must take some crazy amount of planning. This is a title for younger readers, and likely they would enjoy reading it.

I received a review copy of this graphic novel from Diamond Book Distributors and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.

This is fun and cute, but really doesn't make any sense. Mr. Invincible can cut across panel lines, which is cool, and then he does it again and again. He is a sweet, peaceful man but there are no real jokes. I think middle schoolers might like it.

This is a truly original and fun comic! I can easily see younger readers (middle grade and older) and adults enjoying this. The use of visual jokes and breaking the wall between panels provides some good moments for older readers while the silliness of the situations will appeal to a younger audience. Some of the jokes will probably go over the heads of those younger readers, but there's nothing content wise that would be problematic for that audience. The illustrations pull you in and the jokes keep you engaged. I can easily see reluctant readers getting into a comic such as this. It also shows younger readers that you can create something that breaks the rules of structure in fun ways. I would highly recommend this for classroom and school libraries.

Watch out Dogman, there is a new supe in town. Sure to be a big hit with the coveted pre-YA group.

While the idea behind Mr. Invincible is cute, I find that the gimmick (the title character being able to travel between panels of his comic to manipulate events) got tired very quickly. A one-joke book unfortunately.

The illustration style is fun, but the storyline didn't hold our attention as long as we hoped. It would likely work better for older kids / adults.

Mister Invincible : Local Hero by Pascal Jousselin is quite unique. It mixes together a good Samaritan "hero" type where the super power seems to be the ability to smash through the 4th wall. Mr. Invincible as jump forward and backward among the panels, this often allows him to thwart the criminals plans they really even start. I think the Jester was probably the closest anyone else came to showcasing a similar power. The supporting cast have their own unique skills and all brought something new and fun. I enjoyed the premise and the cartoon itself lends to the fun theme of the comic. My only question would be if this was a translation from French? Since the entire thing is in English it didn't make that much sense when the characters visited America nobody could understand one another. And who calls the English language American?

I would like to thank NetGalley and the publisher for making this book available. I received an advanced copy and am leaving a voluntary honest review.

A fun book for students to read. I like how it plays with the comic book paneling to tell the story. It adds another layer of depth to the story. Students would love to read this as it has many short comic strip style stories, with lots of humor, in it.

Mister Invincible is the masked and caped superhero that saves cats from trees, thwarts thieves and saves the world from a host of villains.

Unlike standard comic book panels that are linear, the panels in Mister Invincible are a mind blowing multi-dimension -- "the amazing power of comics." With cute illustrations and a hearty dose of humor, this comic will surely please the graphic novel fan in your life.

Five stars -- I loved the imagination that went into creating this comic.

Thank you NetGalley and Diamond Book Distributors for the opportunity to read this graphic novel in exchange for my honest review.

As a 5th grade teacher, I could see a group of my kids loving this book. It is funny and silly which is exactly what reluctant readers are looking for in a book. I would suggest this for grades 3-5.

I enjoyed this award-winning middle grades book greatly. I can see it as a class-wide graphic novel reading, or as a book club book. Colorful, attention-grabbing, and humorous!

This was so fun!

Thank you to the publisher for giving me a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

I absolutely loved this! I thought it was so fun how mister invincible was able to help people out by using other blocks and was able to go against future and the past. I thought it was such a unique aspect to the comic and it made it so much more fun.

This comic is super fun and fits well for kids around the age of 8. It had fun adventures in it and many funny moments.

I definitely recommend this one :D

Graphic Novel
I received an electronic ARC from Diamond Book Distributors from NetGalley.
The main character is humorous and the artwork is fun to see. However, it truly is a one gag book that continues on almost every page. Mr. Invincible is able to cross the comic barrier which is clever but becomes repetitious. Middle grade readers will appreciate the humor.

A very unique graphic novel/comic book style for kids! Some of the jokes/references were a little peculiar but nonetheless entertaining for older elementary age children. I enjoyed the vintage feel of the illustrations and overall storyline.

children's graphic comics (4th-6th grades?) translated from French.
A superhero who can reach into past and future frames of the comic strip he inhabits to make his crime-fighting adventures easy and quick. Most of the comics are completed in a single page, making it great for reluctant readers who can't get enough comics, with a variety of situations and vocabulary that should help build reading comprehension skills in a fun way (yay, comics building literacy!).

For everyone else, though, this is kind of a yawn (20 pages or so are enough). If your kids have exhausted all of the Captain Underpants and Wimpy Kids, see if they'll read this.

This graphic novel was great! It featured a superhero named Mr Invincible, and it was amusing because the creator of it had 'cheated' on the way such stories are typically told, and I loved it. Written and illustrated by a Belgian creator, and published natively as Imbattable: Justice et Legumes Frais ("Unbeatable: Justice and Fresh Vegetables<"), this book will be available in English come September.

In small ways it reminded me of the time in one of my rat books that Louise and Thelma saw themselves performing on stage in a presentation they were doing. There is also a running story that I have yet to finish where these letters escape from a speech balloon and were running around in a couple of books. I think in the next one I do in alphabetical order, I'll bring that story to a conclusion. It's always fun though, to see others exploiting this kind of out of the box - or out of the panel - thinking.

Normally a graphic novel proceeds sequentially in a series of small panels filling each page, but Mr Invincible's power was that he could move from one panel to another out of sequence, and use things in later panels to help himself in an earlier one. In one story, for example, there was a cat stuck in a tree, so he reaches down from one row of panels into the row below and easily plucks the cat from the top of the tree; then he it hands back to its owner. Of course, the owner now has two cats and must surely ponder whether a cat in the hand is worth a second in the bush, but there's a solution to that!

I don't want to spoil the joy of reading this, so let me confine myself to revealing that there are stories where speech balloons are in play, where comic book colors are exploited, and where even the page itself cannot stop the action! And not all of his stories end well. Of course you can only play these tricks in so many different ways before you run out of truly original ideas, so I have to say it was a credit to the writer that he was able to think up engaging ways to exploit this. I'm not sure how you could sustain a series like this indefinitely, but maybe that's not his plan. I definitely became hooked though, so maybe there is a great future for such storytelling.

It's also a credit to the writer that he could figure out what were rather complex and inventive story executions in some of these stories. I had access only to the e-version of the book which took away from the power of some of the stories. I imagine it would work better in a print comic than it did in the ebook, but still it made for a fun read, and it was definitely different! I commend this fully as a very worthy read.
