Beach read....sweet story of old friends, small town and lover who was left behind. Not my usual read but enjoyed it anyway
This seems to be the first novel in a series that follows Vanessa Moran, a young woman, who after fleeing her hometown of Whisper Beach has made a life as a successful organizational specialist in Manhattan. The death of her cousin’s husband brings her back to town after a 12 year absence in which most of the people who knew her thought she was dead. For Vanessa, better known as Van, ghosts of her past haunt her in every part of town. Expecting to embark on a 2 week vacation, Vanessa only intends to stay for a short time in Whisper Beach, she fully expects to get a relaxing stay at a luxury hotel, minus all the ghosts. She soon finds it increasingly difficult to extricate herself from her past, and she is starting to warm to the idea that that may not be such a bad thing. For Vanessa, she learns that all that she knows of the past may not be the full story. As an introduction to these characters the pacing is a bit slow in this story. I expect the pacing to pick up in further novels. I can relate to Vanessa and her need to escape from those who have hurt her in her past. Vanessa has a strong love interest here in childhood beau Joe, which we don’t see too much of since this is a starter novel in the storyline. I am intrigued enough to pursue the story into further novels. Review posted to Goodreads, Litsy, LibraryThing, Facebook, and Amazon.
I didn’t particularly enjoy this book, because I had a really hard time staying focused and interested in the story. It felt like the book dragged on & I couldn’t reach the end, even though initially I was interested in finding out more about the drama that would come forth due to the reunion of a group of friends in a pretty beach town. I thought it’d be a fun, easy read, but it didn’t hit the mark for me.
I enjoyed the book and liked that it wasn’t your typical girl gets guy ending, yet I found the ending incomplete. I like the concentration on true friendships and family. The book was very detailed in plot until the end which had very little details about how the characters lives turn out; basically I felt it took a long time to get to the end then it ended too abruptly - I like the book and wanted more! I also felt throughout the book I liked the characters but wanted to know more about each, which made it difficult to make the characters come to life for me and visualize them.
It was you typical beach read.. long lost friends reuniting, dealing with past, attempting to move on but they really didn't. There are so many unanswered questions about what happens to the characters. The main character.seem shallow and the rest is a real mix of people that just happen to be friends at one point or another. The ending left me hanging and wanting know more
I really wanted to like this more than I did but unfortunately it just fell flat. The characters were not relatable and the ending was so abrupt. I was hoping for an enjoyable, pleasant beach read but sadly this was not it.
I really enjoyed this book - my first from this author. The story got me interested right away and I liked the characters. The ending was not quite a "happily ever after", but it left me feeling optimistic for the characters.. It is an easy read and very likable.
There is nothing like coming home. Van has a lot of unfinished business to settle in her hometown. She comes back for a funeral. Will she take the time out of her busy schedule to rekindle her high school romance? Will she repair the relationships with her friends and her family? This was a nice read!
I received this book as part of Book Club Girls Free Book Friday.
I’m a sucker for a good beach read. However, I don’t think this was it. I had trouble getting in to this book. I couldn’t connect with it.
This was such an enjoyable read! It was light, but tackled the difficulties of going home after being away for so long.
The ending left me wanting more, but overall, a very enjoyable read!
When Vanessa Moran left Whisper Beach as a pregnant seventeen-year-old, she was determined to make something of herself. Van ended up in New York City. She became a successful businesswoman. She can organize anything except her own life. She returns to Whisper Beach for the first time in fifteen years to attend her cousin’s husband’s funeral. Van intends to show her friends and family what a success her organization business has become. And, in turn, what a success her life has become. But being back in her home town only brings up the problems she ran away from. Her friends talk her into staying longer than just the day for the funeral. She gets pulled into their lives and, of course, the life of her ex-boyfriend. The book reads easily. I, personally, didn’t like the ending. There are many things left unresolved. I think it is setting up for a second book. It was a light read – perfect for summer.
A quick read with interesting characters that the reader can identify as individuals in their own life’s. The drama plot is not too complicated but proves that people are complex and do not always act in ways that we expect. I liked all of the characters; they all seemed real with real life problems. This story wasn’t filled with horror, anguish, or great tragedy and I was glad. I could imagine the book as a mini movie. This book gave me something positive to read amidst all of life. Since the ending is not defined it’s possible for a sequel.
An easy enjoyable light read about a woman returning to her hometown for a family funeral. Vanessa left her hometown 12 years ago without saying goodbye so returning will open up old wounds, lots of memories and lots of heartache. Revisiting the past is never easy. Friendships, past mistakes and love make this book a nice ‘cosy’ read.
Thoroughly enjoyed Whisper Beach, a story about tying up loose threads and righting some wrongs Friday m Childhood.
The author did a great job of capturing the relationships between five very different women. I especially liked that she didn’t solve every problem the characters encountered at the end of the book - maybe leaving room for a sequel?
A nice summer read even though it had predictable outcomes. A successful New York woman returns to her small beachside hometown for a funeral and has to deal with stirring up old memories, good and bad.
After leaving her home town a decade go without saying goodbye, Van returns for the funeral of her cousin’s husband’s funeral. As she faces the people she left behind, she learns some surprising things about her past. Whisper Beach is a well written easy read with characters that we can all relate to.
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC.
I received this book from Netgalley as a giveaway to book club members. I have never read this author but have heard good things. I liked the idea of the book, the setting, it was a good way to contrast living with mistakes in the past that seem to always come to the surface, there was some romance involved, but the book was a little slow and flat to me as well. Overall it wasn't a bad book but it wasn't as intense as what I thought it would be by the synopsis. I still did enjoy for the most part, but some spots I had to push through. I will still check this author out again since I still like the ideas of where she wants to go with her books.
A decent beach read, but not the escape I was looking for right now. The story line was typical and the character development was not as well defined as it could have been. I now understand that this is book #1 in a series and book #2 may better develop some of the loose ends.
This book was a little slow to read at first. But about a third of the way thru, I got involved with each one in the story. I liked the characters and would really like a sequel to some of them. After finishing, I would really like to know more about what the other characters did with their lives. I could easily read a series of this book.
Whisper Beach is, surprise! a "beach read" that serves nicely as a distraction or escape from every day life. It started out a little slow and there were so many female characters to keep straight in the beginning that I had a hard time keeping track of who was who. But once I got into it, I got caught up in the drama of these people's lives, which was pretty intense at times. Overall, a satisfying read.
