I was not able to get interested in this book and I did not finish it. The characters and the plot were not able to catch or keep my attention

I enjoyed this immensely! Mystery, romance, intrigue. I have liked this author from previous books and she compares well to Lucinda Riley, Clare Harvey, and Melanie Dobson. I always like books that keep me guessing, and this one did well into the night! The romance was believable and I was rooting for the main characters.
I guess its not always so easy being a rich countess!

This is an emotional historical fiction read about a woman in exile, missing her family, and not being able to socialize. However, Katerina was permitted to become friends with the teenage girl next door, Celeste, and her good family friend, Edward. The friendship was one that would last a lifetime. This book started out a little slow, but picked up half-way through the book. It is well worth the read. It was such a heartwrenching, yet heartwarming story. I would recommend this book to readers that enjoy a good historical fiction alternate ending story.
Thank you to NetGalley, Random House UK, and Transworld Publishers for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review!

I enjoyed reading this book despite it being a bit complicated to understand who all the characters were in the story. There were too many main characters that kept me wondering what would happen to them all. There was a good storyline and l learned a lot. l recommend that you read this book if you like suspense stories.

Purchase
brilliant as always, I love this author, I am never disappointed I have read all her books, can't wait for the next one to come out

This book is based a few years after WW1, it is about Edward who is a captain in the war but he was discharged because he was poisoned with gas. His lungs are not the best due to the poisoning. He is very kind, cheerful but not very good looking. Edward meets "Katrina", a Bulgarian refugee. He starts to research her family. He soon finds the truth about her family. And different things unfold.
This book was okay, nothing special. I wouldn't go out and buy it.
It was nice to read for fun. Katerina's story is interesting, its the only thing that kept me reading.
I would recommend this book to everyone that likes books about war/romance/history.
