Thank you to NetGalley and One More Chapter for providing me with an ARC of this book to try in exchange for an honest review.
I was so excited when I first came across this title on NetGalley, the premise sounded really promising for a fun, light chick-lit read and the cover was really cute (I’m a sucker for cover art). The title brings to mind classic Rom Com movies (How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days anyone?) – I was definitely ready to read this one.
Now this book is marked as a Romance – and from the description and comparable authors offered up (noted as perfect for fans of Sophie Kinsella and Lindsey Kelk) I thought it would definitely fall into the Romantic Comedy category. When I reread the description now, I see that the big surprise was eluded to – however going into the book I was entirely taken aback by it.
The story starts out in your usual contemporary romantic comedy way. Belle Delphine is your usually new adult, out of university in a job she doesn’t really love or feel challenged by and lacking a love life. The lack of love life is partially self-induced, as she was left at the altar by an ex and has yet to fully move on from the experience.
Things are looking up though, as she has met someone and it seems she might be ready to make the leap forward with her cute co-worker, Nate. This is of course when *ta-da* the ex decides to make a reappearance in her life!
To start, I’ll say that the writing itself was good and I could see how those that enjoy Sophie Kinsella and Lindsey Kelk (like me!) could easily find that same feel in this author’s work. I thought the premise to the story itself was also good and I really was intrigued by the characters and how everything would unfold. I also want to note that I really appreciated and enjoyed the strong female friendships and sisterly bond going on between Belle, Rosie, and Tess.
The rest of my review will be below the line as it will contain some spoilers.

Now while I did find parts very enjoyable, this book ended up just being an okay read for me. Partly due to the ‘twist’. I was expecting more of a traditional romance / romantic comedy from the synopsis and aforementioned comp authors offered up. Instead, this book read more as a Paranormal Contemporary Women’s Fiction read. The focus seemed to be more on the figuring yourself out, moving on from the past and the whole ‘ghost’ bit.
I can appreciate the occasional paranormal romance /romcom and I definitely think this read would appeal to those who do like that trope (for fans of Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, Over Her Dead, and/or Just Like Heaven). However, overall I found that particular point rather jarring – I honestly wasn’t expecting it.
As I said, I really thought the writing was well done and those that enjoy this particular trope as seen in the above listed romcom movies would probably connect with this well. I would definitely still try another read from this author, and would recommend to fans of the paranormal (ghost) romance angle.
Unfortunately I was unable to gel with this book and haven’t been able to finish.
I will not be writing a negative review as that is unfair to the author and I will revisit this as I’m aware I’m a mood reader. Updated review to follow.
How to Lose an Ex in Ten Days by Lottie Lucas started off strong for me and I really liked it at first but then it was just ok after the halfway point. I also think ghosts will be a new thing in the romance genre, but I liked how everything worked out at the end. I didn’t love this book as much as I loved Ten things my cat hates about you, but this was still a cute, light read.
Thank you Netgalley and publishers for giving me the chance to read and review this book! This was a three star rating.
After being jilted at the alter, Belle’s life is taking a turn for the better. Until her ex comes back to haunt her, quite literally, as in, an actual ghost!
This was an okay read, it didn’t grab me as much as I thought it would.
'How To Lose An Ex In Ten Days' was simply an okay book for me. I went into this book with the expectation that this would be a romance book about a woman getting over her ex. And that was what this book was about but it was less of a romance book and more of a getting over her ex and learning to love herself again kind of book. I definitely did not expect the supernatural aspect of this book, but I did kind of like it and it made this book very unique from any other book in the genre.
My favourite thing about this book was probably the writing. If you like Sophie Kinsella's writing, the writing in this book really reminded me of her books and so I'd recommend this book to anyone who like Sophie Kinsella's books.
I didn't hate 'How To Lose An Ex In Ten Days' but I also was not madly in love with it and I don't think it will be a book that will stick with me. There were aspects of this book that I really liked, for example, I loved the friendship between Belle, Tess and Rosie and enjoyed the scenes where the girls were talking and confiding in each other. However, I did not like the relationship in this book. I thought that they did not have any chemistry, maybe becuse we barely saw the two characters together as they had so few scenes together. I also did find this book slightly boring at times and found myself zoning out whilst reading, simply because I was not interested in what was happening and so I was bored.
I think 'How To Lose An Ex In Ten Days' was simply not a book for me. I am sure that this book will appeal to someone and recommend that you read it if you do find the synopsis interesting because it is definitely a unique book.

This wasn’t a bad read.
I really enjoyed the writing style, and it definitely hits the mark for fans of rom coms like Kinsella’s. There were some parts where I felt disconnected from what I was reading. The PNR aspect didn’t bother me, but it was a little unexpected I think.
More than anything I didn’t really like the characters. Overall, as I said, not a bad read. I just don’t think this one was for me.
I had high hopes for this book as it had a really good description and it started off pretty well - classic rom-com where girl gets jilted at the alter and has to pull her life back together. Enter cute co-worker who drives her crazy and the story is starting to get really good. Then...it takes a weird sort of turn for me, and about halfway I just totally lost interest with the new development (not giving away any spoilers here) and this unfortunately became a did not finish for me as I couldn't force myself to continue. I also had some issues with the main character and the writing as sometimes she was present in the conversations and sometimes she was reflecting back on what happened, and that was starting to annoy me as well. I give this book 2 stars because the writing was light and the dialog had a lot of humor and wit, and because I really liked Nate''s character even if I felt really bad for him a lot of the time. This story might be someone else's cup of tea, but it definitely wasn't mine with the weird plot twist in the middle.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the chance to review this advanced reading copy.

Six years after being left at the alter, Belle is still trying to get her life back on track. She has an ok job as a journalist and has recentely begun to notice a handsome co-worker when he ex-fiance unexpectedly shows up again. Belle learns that Ed actually died in a car crash as he fled on their wedding day and has come back to haunt her. In the process, he screws up her shot with Nate, her co-worker.
I was intrigued and really enjoyed the first half of the book and then it was a struggle to finish as I didn't really buy into Ed's haunting. acts.
This book started out like a classic rom-com - girl gets jilted at the alter, moves on with her life and when she goes on a date with her cute co-worker (who she has been crushing on for awhile), her ex turns up. I thought this would be a fun, traditional story but when it turns out that the ex is {SPOILER} a ghost, the story lost me. I know the description said supernatural but I wasn't expecting an actual ghost. I liked the writing and felt it akin to Sophie Kinsella but it was a little long - it moved quickly until the ghost reveal then it slowed down.
Okay, I started out loving this book. The author's style of writing is just like the description reads, great for fans of Sophie Kinsella. It's an easy-breezy romcom, I love the main character and her friends, also love the dynamics of an office romance.
LOVED, until... the supernatural aspect of the book came out. I did not get from the description of the book that the supernatural elements were quite as they were. So it was certainly a shock as I did not expect the ghost of her ex to come out and seen by everyone?? Once I caught on, I could manage with a Ghost of Girlfriends Past, or Just Like Heaven style ghost, but EVERYONE saw the ghost? I just didn't expect to be reading a supernatural love story and it made it all just too strange and unbelievable for me.
I look forward to reading more from this awful in a more typical style of romance, sans the supernatural.
This story was fun, some laugh out loud moments. But at times fell flat for me.
Belle is trying to put her life back in order after she was left at the alter. She was doing well until her ex shows up - in an unexpected way. As the story goes on he continues to "show up" and interact with her.
The story is about coming to terms with your past so you can enjoy your future.
Overall a cute, quick read, if predictable at times. At times I was little lost, and didn't quite connect with what was happening.

I was totally in love with the book and could not put it down until it took on a whole new approach of the boyfrend being dead. I was very upset as I picked the book because I thought it was going to be a light romantic read and it was not. Thank you for the ARC and ability to read the book.
A delightful romantic comedy that will please all lovers of the genre! The characters were fun and the storyline flowed seamlessly. Highly recommended!
This book did not hit it with me. Everything was peachy keen until it wasn't (you'll know what I mean). Overall very flat and the characterization and plot did nothing to me.
How to Lose an Ex in Ten Days was a fun read. I was really into the story and then it took a surprising turn that I wasn’t sure I liked at first. I didn’t read the synopsis before starting the book, so the “haunting” was unexpected. However, I discovered that aspect wasn’t a deal-breaker for me. As the characters developed, I really felt more invested in the story and wanted to see how the love triangle panned out. Belle has a sister and best friend who create a fun trio who cheer each other in life. There are some funny scenarios and outrageous moments that keep the story light and fun while it gets a little deeper into a theme of personal growth and learning from past mistakes. This was a fun romcom to read over the weekend.
💎 I’ve never really felt like I was in control of my own canoe, but maybe it’s finally time for me to embrace my power to steer.

This story follows Belle, who is trying to get her life back on track and move on having been left at the altar. Everything seems to be going well in both her life and her love life, until her ex-fiancé turns up at her work one day - with a twist!
Some laugh out loud moments (imagine having your ex just turn up when and where he wants to and be able to interact with things!) and some moment I was not expecting, but overall an enjoyable (if a little predictable) story about finding yourself and accepting the past so you can move on. I would definitely read another book from this author
Not at all what I expected. I thought I was reading a supernatural book instead of a contemporary romance. I was lost and disappointed with this book.
Despite, the story having a good premise and concept, for some reason it just did not do it for me. I had a lot of expectations after reading the blurb for this one, and I had hoped that it would give me the comfort I needed, but unforunately, I found the writing to be too scattered for my liking. The concept, the characters as well as the setting of the entire story was portrayed really well, but the plot did not deliever as well as it probably could have. Personally, in the very beginning of the book I felt myself as lost and could not connect well with the writing which is why this book probably did not work for me.
I somehow missed the supernatural aspect in the book description. It was not what i was expecting at all. The book was okay, overall. If I had known about it was going to have all of that I probably would not have started it.
How to Lose an Ex in Ten Days was definitely different from the novels I usually choose to read and it's plot could only be described as unique. It was a somewhat enjoyable book, but I have to admit it was not what I had expected.
Diving into this book I expected it would be an angsty, love triangle book —considering her ex fiancee left Belle at the altar on their wedding day, but six years later he unexpectedly decides to get involved in her life again, just when she decides to move on and maybe build a future with her handsome colleague Nate—, but it turned out to be a romance novel that included paranormal aspects.
I was surprised at first but I decided that the book was worth a shot, even though paranormal romance is not my cup of tea. I definitely enjoyed Lottie Lucas' writing style, so if you like the paranormal romance genre, I don't see a reason why you shouldn't read this book.
