I love historical fiction set in WWII and this book is another great addition to the genre. A combination of romance and espionage, the characters are great and the plot is tense and gripping, making it very readable. I very much enjoyed this book.
I really enjoy reading historical fiction books set during WWII. What an emotional read. I continue to be amazed by the individuals who were committed to doing anything to help put an end to Hitler’s reign of terror. The story is more romance novel, so be prepared for that aspect (something I am not fond of). The characters are well developed and the author does a great job of presenting the story of this time period. The primary character, Sylvie, has to figure out how to make choices and decisions in dangerous situations. I would like to have had more detail on her experiences. However, the story will have you engrossed.
Thank you to NetGalley and One More Chapter for my advanced review copy. All opinions and thoughts are my own.
When a young woman engangers her future and her life by joining the French resistance, she must remake herself into a sympathizer. Her efforts go too far when she develops a romantic attachment.
Well written, based on the real life of a resistance member, the writer has skillfully pulled us into one woman's journey to defeat the Nazi. I've read many books on this era and have not seen many that tell the story on an individual's experiences. It brings this terrible time in history much closer. Elisabeth Hobbes has given her readers an excellent reading experience.
A powerful read, emotional and just brilliant. Loved Sylvie's character and the plot. I'm looking forward to reading more from the author.
I love novels set in WW2 France and the resistance especially the role of the SOE. However, the narrative was slowed by too much jumping back and forth between timelines. I liked the setting of wartime Nantes and the well researched period detail.
This was a brilliant read and is being featured on my blog for my quick star reviews feature, which I have created on my blog so I can catch up with all the books I have read and therefore review.

This book was great. It gave me all the feels for sure. I found it amazing that dancing was a cover for their operation and it got me wondering if this was the case in real life in the past. I hope to read more books by this author
This is a good story, but honesty it’s not my comfort kind of reading, besides that I really enjoyed how Sylvia Duchene is growing through the story, I admire her a lot.
I didn’t enjoy the start and found it too upsetting to carry on unfortunately. I didn’t like how the main character was being treated and it really got to me
I read this book and was intrigued with the cast of characters. Story was set in France during WWII. There is romance and espionage. Surprise ending..
This is something a bit different from what I normally read but I enjoyed it.
Was nice to have something different. I loved the plot and the characters.
I would really recommend this. Romance and sacrifice.
What a great read. Gripping story with a little bit of everything. Would highly recommend this book.
Thank you net galley for the advance reader copy of this novel. This was a WII historical fiction about a dancer, Slyvie, who goes undercover in France. This novel was a page Turner for me as the action keep propelling me forward. Definitely recommend!
This is perfect for fans of The Alice Network, if you would like something very similar. I thought that this one started strong, though really dried out after 100 pages. I think that this had real potential, and will be checking out Hobbes' future work to see if her writing improves!
This book set in WW2 follows the story of a dancer who goes undercover to help the movement. Follow her worries and successes as she tries to do what is required of her.
Full of tension and hope

Thanks to Netgalley for a copy of this book for an honest review.
I love stories of women working with the French Resistance during WW2 and this was no exception. The story of Sylvie, a French/English woman who returns to France as part of the SOE. Would highly recommend.
I received a copy of this ebook in exchange for an honest review
This book was breathtaking. Most WWII novels feel like a generic tale. Always some resistance work and a romance. This was different in some ways. I cried for most of the story. It was magnificent. just wonderful.
I love books about the SOE, the excitement, the sacrifices made.
Unfortunately this didn't have as much of what I thought it was, more of a romance, which was lovely, just a surprise.
The SOE details were edge of your seat stuff though, when they happened.
There were many dangers that these people dealt with.
All in all a good book.
I was given a copy of The Secret Agent by Elisabeth Hobbes by the publisher in exchange for a honest review. The novel is set during world war two. Sylvie is a secret agent undercover in Nantes in France where she works as a dancer whilst carrying secret messages. This was a well written story with parts of the novel going back to Sylvie's childhood. A great book for fans of historical fiction.
A story that keeps you on the edge of your seat following SOE operative, Sylvie Duchene. Initially from France before moving to England, and the daughter of a dancer, Sylvie is the perfect person to send undercover to 'Mirabelle', a nightclub in occupied France. Part of the problem though is that for everyone's safety she is only given instructions in steps, so if a contact does not appear, or someone asks her a question, she does not know who to trust. Caught between flirting to get information, surviving in an occupied country, and avoiding the attraction to someone she does not truly know, Sylvie must make choices and sacrifices for what she believes she must do.
A consuming romance, this focuses more on the personal relationships than on the work Sylvie does for the SOE, and I wanted more depth to the dangers she puts herself in and the situations she has to get out of. That being said, the story is riveting and would recommend as long as you know you're getting more of the romance than the historical fiction,
