Ooh I love the premise of this! A mansion with different colored doors that lead to different worlds is so awesome! I have so many questions about what's behind each door and I can't wait for the sequel to see about the red door.
I liked the main character, Meg, a lot. She's a strong girl who can hold her own and doesn't let guys push her around. I thought her friendship with Brek was sweet, although there seems to be some possibly romantic feelings there? Carter also turned out to have more to him than a high school jock and I love how much he cares for Meg.
The plot moved pretty quickly and kept me intrigued throughout. A couple times I got a little confused about their plan to get the seed, but the magic and different characters were fun. So excited for the next book!

What a damn pick-me-up! Not that this was charming or smothered be in all kinds of romantic things. No, it was just a nice change of pace from my last eARC. Oh lord, thank you for giving me The Green Door.
Might be weird but I kind of got Narnia vibes? But instead of just people in that world possibly dying.. people entering the world could do as well? Not sure if I'm making complete sense or not but go with it folks! It was a pretty fun adventure and you get to see three people come out closer than ever.
Ah, those three people: Meg, Brek, and Carter. Meg and Brek are the very best friends that any friend could ever have. They are each other's people and I was all for it. Then Carter comes into the mix and we are not quite sure what his plan is. Low and behold, we do find a potential romance but the book doesn't focus on it that much. I mean, we have a whole new world to adventure through and somehow save everyone in it? So yeah, romance is there but it's not the main topic.
Other than that, I loved the twists and turns. Even if I had to be like, 'FINALLY! Someone is paying attention," a couple of times. I just really enjoyed this book and I'm kind of excited to dive into the next one. Only because I seriously want to know what is behind the red freaking door. Evil cupids? Alice and wonderland theme??
..I can't really think about anything else at the moment but I need the book!
I loved this book, so easy to read and get lost in. It's just a game, all you have to do is open the door and find the object it can't be that dangerous can it? Exciting, fun, mysterious and funny. Can't wait for book 2.

The perfect little fantasy escape adventure story! I just finished, and I’m dying for the sequel.
Meg and Brek are best friends about to enter their adult lives when a game sponsored by the local haunted house (of sorts) catches their eyes. What do the mysterious doors hold for them? Magic, adventures and a bit of romance along the way.
This quick read was perfect for a relaxing afternoon read.

I liked the concept of the game and the doors that lead to other dimensions. That was pretty cool to read about. However, I did not like the characters, at least not at first. Meg and Brek were annoying with their flip flopping. Like when it was Meg's idea to go to the game but then she kept daying it was a stupid idea and that it couldn't be any good or real. Then Brek was all, be nice to the animals but then not trust them. I was also not wild about the instalove of Carter and Meg. Why would you make out with a guy you don't really know? They got better by the end though and so I am glad I decided to finish the book.
This could be a good series, as long as the characters grow up a little more or at least figure out their own minds.

I’m not really sure about this book.
The plot premise is intriguing, that’s for sure, but at the same time I think the writing is a little bland and sometimes boring, also there were some unnecessary dialogues.
The characters were somewhat flat, the only one that was interesting for me was Brek. The main protagonist, Megan, was really boring most of the time apart from the last chapters.
The plot was too rushed for me, I stumbled in many point where I didn’t quiet get what was happening and what lead to that.
I was expecting more from this book, so I’m a little disappointed.

I fully enjoyed the book to the fullest. I didn’t want to stop reading. The concept. The characters. The magical setting. . . It all worked together so well. Even the magical system seemed interesting and sparked debate about freedom.
Who knew? I surely didn’t.
The concept is simple: two kids who are down on their luck (literally live in a place that is called the Dump) enter a contest. They pick a door and complete the assignment for however much it is. The higher the amount of money they can win, the more difficult the task is. They picked the Green Door.
The author executed this concept much better than I thought she would. It is amazing. It is so simple, but yet keeps me engaged. The plot twists and the complications that came with it left me wanting to know more about the world behind the Green Door.
I don’t want to ruin too much, but the setting behind the green door is amazing and described perfectly. I could imagine that world so easily and love the magic bits and pieces thrown in.
The characters were well thought out and not stereotypical which is refreshing. I loved the sassy main character Meg and her best friend, Brek. I loved the fact they joke each other so much. I also enjoyed Carter breaking the stupid jock stereotype. There were a couple of characters I didn’t like, but they were the bad guys so I think that makes sense. I kinda wished she made the villains less stereotypical. They were very cartoonish, but she thought them out. Just very villain-y instead of like people.
Overall, I highly recommend this book if you like a bit mystery and romance with your fantasy. If you don’t like romance in it, then you probably won’t like this book. Anyway, I cannot wait to read the next book!
Unfortunately this book wasn't for me. When I read the synopsis I had something entirely different in mind - that is, the setting. It just didn't draw me in and I never made it past chapter 4. That being said im not saying it isn't a good book, it just wasn't what I was seeking, or what I want to read.
I recommend this for anyone who loves a good mystery, in a modern day setting.
Wow! This book was fantastic. It was really well written and I didn’t want to put it down!
I loved the idea of a new door each book. I was expecting them to get it all done in one book, but I was pleasantly surprised to focus on one door. I also loved the characters. Meg is a fun and love able character. Brek and Carter were also great additions to the story. I like how they all grow and mature together. I also enjoy the romance between Meg and a certain football player. I really enjoyed learning about the mystery behind the door and I can’t wait to learn about what’s behind the other doors.
I really enjoyed this book and I’m very excited for the next one to come out.
I loved this book. It was a real adventure. I honestly couldn't find fault with it. The cover was great the story drew me in straight away. Thank you Heather Kindt for immersing me in this book and thank you Netgalley for allowing me to review it. Hope to review the next one.5 stars.
When I read the description of the Green Door, I was expecting a more Caraval game type book so I was definitely thrown for a loop once the green door was actually opened. I loved everything about this story. The main characters, Meg, Brek and Carter was all very likeable and I loved how they interacted with each other. To me, it had a very Narnia like atmosphere which was really cool. I cant wait to read the next book and see what next great adventure awaits
This book was perhaps not for me. I really should've expected more fantasy elements from the synopsis but I didn't expect this MUCH fantasy honestly. That might be on me. That aside, while the story was intriguing, I just couldn't bring myself to like it because I could not stand Carter. He is ripped right from a 2011 YA book, think like Noah Shaw in Mara Dyer. I hated him. He made this book feel like it was written so much longer ago than it actually was. Meg was fine, if a bit annoying because she was so hell-bent on being the saviour, but she didn't bother me. I don't like love triangles, but when they make sense I am okay with them. This did not make sense. Again this love triangle is straight out of YA circa 2011. I think she's probably a good writer, but this was just not for me.
(Also I will say that this is probably simply because this is an arc, but the spelling was really bad and the grammar needed some serious work)
I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to Netgalley for this arc.
I was first intrigued by the cover of this book which is stunning, i also really liked the sound of the synopsis.
I had some issues with the story though. First of all i found a few spelling mistakes, which i'm sure could easily be corrected.
I couldn't really connect to any of the main characters. Meg was too dramatic and focused on saving everyone, which in theory is a good thing, but only if it doesn't become "over he top" as it did here. Also Carter was too much of "the arrogant bad boy" and guess what, of course he had o have tattoos. I didn't really like him from the start (sexist comments, moving way too fast in the relationship) but then when he was a jerk about sex, i started disliking him a lot.
Brek was sweet, i liked him. He felt more like a big brother than a friend though.
I loved the idea of the corridor filled with portals to other worlds, and was expecting adventures in all of these worlds so i was slightly disappointed when i discovered the obvious: each door has its own book. Which after realizing, i actually prefer.
I liked the world building a lot. There were so many details and the world was unlike anything i have read before.
There was something about the story that was just off to me, that i cannot put a finger on. Something that bothered me, and throughout the whole book i tried to pinpoint it but i couldn't.
And even though i disliked mos of the characters, i am sill very excited for book 2!
DNF at 35%.
For a book that is meant to be released this year it feels old, It’s full of tired cliches, and was too confusing to follow at times because of the fast pacing. I spent more time trying to figure out what was going on more than enjoying the story, and when I saw the beginning of a love triangle forming I had to give up. That’s my most hated trope.
It’s a shame because there was a lot of potential.
Anyone who knows me, knows I love stories about games, treasure hunts, or challenges. When I heard about this one "SIGN ME UP!" Especially because it seems like they will be going through a different door with a different challenge in each book of this series.
But after the challenge begins and they start, it seem like there was a lot of fluff and side quests happening that did not move the storyline along as much as it should. It was very disappointing and I found myself not really looking forward to finishing. However, I liked the characters, especially Brek. But if I am supposed to get on board with Carter, I am just not there yet.
The ending sets up the next book nicely so I will probably proceed with the story to continue the quest.
Choose a door, bring back the prize, get paid.
When she finds a flyer advertising a cash prize for anyone who wins the game, Meg, in need of funds for college, applies together with her best friend & teammate, Brek. What neither of them know, is that the game is one of life and death, in another world, where magic and tyrants and talking animals and lots of danger exists. When winning the game means going against their morals, Meg and Brek have to make some complicated decisions.
This book had some great world building. In some ways, it was like Narnia - a portal world, talking animals, an enemy to vanquish and magic to fix. But it was also more young adult, since the characters are just finishing high school, and there's a bit more death. But I really enjoyed the world it was set in, and the magic and challenges they faced.
The characters weren't the most developed, but they were good enough. I still wish they had a bit more depth. I'd have liked to see them having more serious reactions to death, especially when they killed someone for the first time, or when one lost a teammate, but barely mentioned it thereafter. They did react, but they moved on too quickly in my opinion.
The romance moved as expected. It wasn't a rushed affair, and it wasn't the sole focus of the book, which I greatly appreciated.
The plot was fun and it was an engaging read. I enjoyed it right from the start. There's a nice mix of magic and adventure. Now I'm going to find the next book in this series.

This was a book that had a touch of everything, enchantment, sentiment, selling out, misfortune and fellowship. All the characters were affable and the three fundamental characters were ones that you could identify with. The story is about kinship yet additionally being consistent with yourself and securing those you love. It was a simple paced read and I am anticipating the trios next experience.
DNF at 30%, for a number of reasons.
1. The punctuation is by Jackson Pollock, and there are quite a few other issues too (missing past perfect tense, homonym errors/eggcorns as basic as "your/you're"). Even an excellent editor would struggle to polish out all of them.
2. The worldbuilding is inconsistent. Of the talking animals, the cat is specifically stated to have no opposable thumbs - yet is somehow an herbalist - but the badgers and warthogs can shoot bows with great accuracy and no apparent issues. Somebody must have made the cat-sized clothes, so some of these animals can use sewing needles... it's not thought through.
3. The characters are showing strong signs of being Spoiled Protagonists, handed trust and help they haven't earned by people they've just met, who have no reason to give it to them except that they're the protagonists.
4. Apart from that, it's fairly average YA. Where I stopped, cliche was looming in the form of probably a love triangle.
I wanted to love this book. It's the first in a new YA series, and the concept is fantastic: a teenager finds a flyer advertising a game with a monetary prize. To play the game, she and her partner must choose one of several different colored doors to enter. An artifact needs to be retrieved from the worlds behind each door. I assume each book in the series will feature a different door/world.
This book is marketed as Teen/YA, but the writing felt as if it was targeting an even younger audience. There was no subtlety in the text. There was very little time devoted to character development or world-building (which is especially important in fantasy novels). Despite that, there were themes and plot points that would not be appropriate for younger readers. I would read the next book in the series, though, because the overall concept is so interesting!

What I liked:
The synopsis of this book made me really interested, and the plot didn’t let me down. It was engaging and quick-paced, and it was never too difficult to figure out what was going on.
Meg and Brek’s relationship was amazing. They’ve known each other for a long time, and are very comfortable with each other. Of course, there was a bit of drama, but they were always supportive of each other and kept their friendship strong. There were hints throughout the book that subtly suggested that Brek might want to be more than friends. However, he doesn’t tell Meg any of this, most likely because he’s scared that it might do something to their friendship.
Carter is the exact opposite. He’s only known Meg for a short time, unlike Brek, however, he makes his feelings pretty obvious.
My favorite part by far, however, was the banter. The dialogue was really funny and descriptive. I absolutely love books with hilarious banter and witty conversations between the characters. (Percy Jackson anyone?) Since Meg and Brek have known each other forever their conversations are engaging and are really fun to read.
Not just talking about the dialogue though; overall, I thought that the writing was very good. The descriptions of the world inside the green door were vivid and magnificent, and I could picture so clearly in my head what the world would look like.
What I didn't like:
This book went too far too fast. I was not expecting the level of intensity that was brought upon the characters once they entered the door. They were in mortal danger many times, and it was terrifying.
But I also am not the biggest fan of more gory books. I don’t want to discourage anyone from reading this because I’ve said that it’s too intense. I just don’t really have the stomach for it, and although I enjoyed most parts, some parts were intense and weird. It’s too much in the sense that Six of Crows was too much for me. So if you were unfazed by some of Kaz Brekker’s more inconsiderate actions in Six of Crows, you’ll probably be fine with the Green Door. That’s just my comparison to explain what I didn’t like as much in the book.
However, that is saying something positive about the writing. Like I said above, the writing in this book brought everything to life; the worlds, the characters, and the conflicts.
Conclusion
This book wasn’t bad, I actually really enjoyed most of the book. The genre isn’t exactly the sort of genre that I usually read, however, I do think that I’ll want to be continuing the series. I’ll be excited to see what adventures Meg, Brek, and Carter go on next!
My rating: 3.5/5 stars
