A good beginner’s cookbook and introduction to Mediterranean flavors. Recipes are easy to follow and illustrations are gorgeous.
Lots of great, easy recipes that are delicious and healthy. Excellent reference.
Many thanks to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for my ARC. All opinions are my own.
This manual and recipe book will find in its audience the curious, the newcomers, and followers of the Mediterranean style of eating. The explanations are clear and the meals provide a good overview. While it is an attractive book, the addition of more recipe photos would better meet the favor of those expecting a cookbook.
This is a good basic eating plan for anyone interested in trying two weeks of the Mediterranean diet. There is enough explanation to help you modify the plan to suit food preference. This is a quick and easy approach to this popular diet.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for my unbiased review.
This cookbook was okay! If I'm honest I didn't find too many recipes I was dying to try. Maybe it is just not my favorite type of food.
Mediterranean diet plan....I just love Mediterranean recipes. The love of olives and EVOO brings out my Mediterranean side... Diet plan not so much. The book offers some solid meal prep, and some planning but the diet is simplistic in its approach so to each his own. Less red meat....more veggies and fish. Many of us already eat this way but for beginners this is a great guide.
What did I like? Some pretty basic but helpful hints toward a more Mediterranean lifestyle through the pages. Meal plan and planning for those who just want to try it. If your looking for a guide this could help. I’m always looking for an amazing pesto recipe or a great recipe with fish. If you want to try something different for 14 days then allow this author to guide you.
Would I buy? Recommend? It has some good recipes but I’m not looking to partake in a diet. So I probably would not buy... plus lack of pictures for the recipes make this a difficult choice. It does however have some helpful hints and looks like a great start for beginners.
Thoughts for author? Thanks so much for a copy to read and offer an opinion. Kudos to a great book and to making people healthier.
In America, we’re always taught that diet means eating food you don’t like to lose weight you don’t want, so whenever I see the term, I immediately tune out. However, diet can just mean what you eat, and for me, the Mediterranean Diet is just a way of life. My family is from Lebanon, and we take our food very seriously. Food is a huge part of gathering as well as nutrition. If you’ve ever met a Lebanese grandma, then that lady has fed you and fed you well.
This book has got you whether you need a complete breakdown with a ton of information, or just want to successfully add hummus and tahini to your dishes. Though I read all of the front matter, I took the most away from the recipes themselves. If you’d like to do the full two-week plan, though, it makes it super easy, including a meal plan that you can follow to save yourself some time and brain space.
I do love some of the variations on recipes in this one as it takes different parts of many Middle Eastern countries into consideration when presenting recipes. We season things a tad differently in Lebanon than the Greeks, and a dish in Morocco is prepared differently than it is in Jordan, so the variety of spices, ingredients, and preparation was really neat and inspired me to try a few different things as well.
Summer is the perfect time to dive into the Mediterranean Diet, because everything is so fresh. This cookbook is out now, so if you’d like to get started at just the right time, pick up a copy for yourself and enhance your quarantine eating.
This cookbook begins with a typical introduction to the Mediterranean diet and suggestions for meal planning and shopping. There are some interesting unique recipes (e.g., Curry Zucchini Soup or Zummo Meso Mini Frittatas) but many of the recipes are old standards such as moussaka. Recipes are clear and easy to follow, though it seems like the extra white space could be used for more photos. A big part of selecting food (i.e., recipes) is their visual appeal. Yet there's only one photo per section and those, at times, seem like a poor choice. For example, Shortbread with Strawberry Preserves is pretty easy to visualize, just from the name, while other recipes in the dessert section could be just as appealing yet more difficult to visualize. If you have to choose just one, then why not one that's harder to imagine. Overall, this is a serviceable cookbook, but not very remarkable.
Awesome cookbook! I love mediterranean food and I was so excited to read this book and try these recipes. They look easy to make and most of the ingredients are easy to find. The book has lots of information about the mediterranean diet, ingredients to use and I enjoyed learning it all. I received a free digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review
I love to try new foods and from different cultures, I might not be jumping on the Mediterranean diet bandwagon full time but I definitely will be try many of the recipes in this cook book. IF you are looking into starting the Mediterranean diet than I feel this is a great introduction book as it gives a 14 meal plan to go with the recipes. I am a visual person so I feel that there could have been way more pictures of the recipes.
