Fifth a Fury is the stunning conclusion of the Goddess of Isles series. "There are shackles and sonnets, chains, and confessions. There's no space for fibs and fakery." It might cause you heartbreak, numbness, and all the feels that's what Pepper does. Pepper creates a journey, we follow, she breaks our hearts, and we adore her for it! Total admiration for this series and loving the pop-in mentions of guests from other series, highly recommended.
I cannot believe that The Goddess Isles series has now come to an end. When I think back over the journey that Pepper Winters has taken us on, it has been incredible. Once a Myth remains my favourite book out of the series I must admit, and Fifth a Fury was everything I expected it to be.
I must warn you that this review will be a little vague as I try not to reveal any spoilers.
What I love about a book penned by Pepper Winters is that you never know which way the story is going to go. From past experience I know that she isn’t shy about killing off main characters so there are no guarantees that those that we have grown to love will still be with us at the end of the story. That knowledge added to the uncertainty and anticipation throughout Fifth a Fury in my opinion.
What I adored in this book is that the characters continued to show their strength and determination, even when it would have been quite easy to give up. The author has produced the most superb descriptive words for every aspect of this story and this is the reason why I was able to understand their struggles, feelings and behaviours. As much as I would normally wish for certain scenes to be told at a faster pace, that was not what this book needed and how Ms. Winters delivered each chapter was perfect.
Fifth a Fury brought out all the feels. The author took me on an emotional roller coaster ride from start to finish which I always welcome. There were dark moments in this book which had me on the edge of my seat. There is also a mention of some old friends, but having only very recently finished reading The Dollar series, as I mentioned in my review of Millions, I do wish I had known to read Ms. Winters’ books in release order and now I feel perhaps not within such a short period of time. The latter contributes to why I award Fifth a Fury 4.5 stars.
Fifth a Fury is a fabulous end to an incredible series. There will always be a place in my heart for Sully and Eleanor. I have loved witnessing the connection and chemistry that this couple share. I have loved watching both characters evolve throughout the series too. I would go and live on Sully’s island without hesitation to enjoy the peace and tranquillity that it offers and hopefully Pika and Skittles will be there to entertain me….. they certainly stole the show at times.
Pepper Winters has once again proved herself to be a phenomenal author. I highly recommend that you read this book, series and other books she has written. I am certain you will love them just as much as I do.
Magical is the first word that comes to mind when I think of this book and the whole Goddess Isles series. I used to think nothing could beat the Monsters in the Dark Series but this is close and how fitting that Q closes it out. I cried and laughed and that is the magic of Pepper Winters, she draws on your emotions through the power of her words and she was even able to bring in Covid-19 and that Sully might have a vaccine, I hope so for all our sakes. This was a unique concept and one that was full of ups and downs, good and evil, crime and justice and a powerful love that changed a man - what more could a reader want! A must read from a brilliant author.
If I could give a book and this entire series more than 5 stars I would.
How do I even begin to write a review that can even touch on the epicness that is this book? This is a serious question. I pursued a degree in literature because I wanted to be able to dive deep into books and be able to explain what the words or author authors were saying, and more importantly, why they might evoke emotions. Yet, I posit, how I can do this book justice? I am not sure I can but I will try.
From the beginning of this series the person that was always in control was Sully. Sure it could be argued that Elanor held the cards. In many ways she did, but it was Sully that ultimately still was the puppetmaster. However, this book changed the game. Elanor was truly a deity in a land of mere mortals. Her strength, resilience, grace, devotion, and perseverance was everything that I could have wanted and more in a female character. I cried when she cried, I felt despair and anger when she did, and more importantly, I felt the joy and love when she did. THAT is powerful when an author has the ability to do that to someone just with her words.
That is not to say that Sully was weak in this one. He had his moments of being his typical god/devil-like self. I was not expecting his journey to be like it was. My heart hurt so many times and seeing what he was experiencing hurt just as much as what I felt for Elanor. When he triumphed, I cheered. When he fought valiantly, I had his back, and when he became a better man my heart soared that he could be this for Elanor AND because he was redeemed because of her. That takes power, too, because this author created a character that was vile and showed that despite his flaws he was worthy. Instead of the Devil falling from the heavens, he instead became a phoenix rising from the ashes into a new body and having a new purpose.
A world was created that had me suspend my beliefs and lose myself in more than just the figurative way that readers do when they get lost in their imagination. This was losing myself literally in not only the words but also in the fantasy that was because of the effects of Euphoria and the Goddess Isles. Even though the premise behind how these two characters fell in love would not be my choice in real life, it worked in this series. Even though the premise was dark and deplorable it soon lost that felling as instead, I felt invested in everything that was this series. That includes not just the main characters but the secondary ones, the animals, the sanctuary, and the island itself. If there was a heaven on earth I imagine it is this place where the past can be reforged from the ashes and that sins can be cleansed away.
This ending was everything I could have wanted and more. Granted, I bit a few nails down to the quick before I got there. However, it was worth every drop of wine (okay the bottle--don't judge), every agonizing dream as I waited for the next book to be released, and reminded me yet again why this author is a one-click/preorder even before I have a blurb of what the book is about. She is truly one of a kind. The emails in this one made my HEART jump with joy because I got to be reminded of what and how I came to discover her. Seeing how Sully came to dream about his Goddess... just truly everything I could have wanted and more. t is always bittersweet to see a series end and that is, most assuredly, true in this case. These characters, including Pika and Skittles, have become my friends and family, yet, this is a series that will be going in my all-time vault and I will be reading them again so that I can visit them often.
AND the SURPRISE at the end?!?!?! Just sign me up now.
5*
We return to Sully and Eleanor's story after the destruction caused by Drake.
Drake is still determined to take everything Sully has and is desperate to have Eleanor and succeed in destroying Sully.
This book certainly has you on tenter hook hoping for the best, but knowing that life certainly isn't going to be the same.
A rollercoaster of emotions that have you glued to the book from start to finish.
I definitely recommend reading this series
This is the Epic Finale we have all been waiting for!! Sully and Eleanor are up against such evil will they be able to come out on top? Will they be together after all they have been through? What will become of Sullivan after all he has put his body through in Fourth a lie? This whole series is a magnificent, intense, roller-coaster of passion, secrets, action and emotions. Everything you want in a book is here and more! Every book in the goddess isles series has been a Top Read and this is no exception. Eleanor is such a strong female and Sullivan just makes my heart melt. If you only read one series this year this is the one!!! I’m in awe of the writing and the way we get transported into her stories that you feel a real connection to the characters. Bravo! This does go at a little slower pace but that’s so you get the feel of what’s happening. Told in dual POV
