Romantic thriller, strong ,handsome hero beautiful heroine and a mystery to be solved. A quick read which was light and enjoyable
Defending Hailey by Patricia Rosemoor is another Rosemoor feel-good adventure/romance. Hailey has been invited to a party at McKenna Ridge, the home of her girlhood friend and crush, Bryce McKenna. She is a realtor and he has a friend wanting to buy. Her phone rings and it is her brother, Danny, needing money again. This time is it $100,000 to fend of a loan shark or die. He has already tapped her dry and she doesn't know what to do. Meanwhile, Bryce is trying to romance an investor for his development business but the man is conservative and worries that Bryce is an irresponsible playboy ... look at the money he has spent on this party. Bryce joins Hailey, susses out her problem, and immediately comes to a solution for both of them. They should get married, he pays off Danny's loan shark, and gives the family man impression to his potential partner. Problem solved. Hailey reluctantly agrees and sets off a chain of strikingly odd situations.
It's the McKenna curse... 100 years earlier an angry woman cursed the progeny of her faithless lover than their loves would come to bitter ends. Bryce had seen it too often. No way would her fall in love and incur the curse. He was very careful. He also could hear people's thoughts, sometimes. Hailey could feel the emotions of former tenant of houses she entered, good or bad. What a pair ... and they both believed it. it lead to interesting things happening in their lives. Rosemoor hit it out of the park with this novel It's a lovely romance, but also an intriguing crime novel with just s touch of whimsy. Loved it. I recommend it.
I was invited to read a free ARC of Defending Hailey by Netgalley in exchange for a fair and honest review. All opinions and interpretations contained herein are solely my own. #netgalley #defendinghailey
I have enjoyed all the books in this series. While this wasn't my favorite, it was a great, fast paced mystery with a good romance. The characters were a bit hard for me to like but I was invested in their story. I loved the paranormal aspects of this one. The family gifts make this series! The curse once again needs to be overcome and there were times you wondered if it was possible. Also, I couldn't figure out all the answers to the mystery so I was held in suspense which I love!
Since I read previous just had to continue on with getting into this one. Yet again drawn into a intriguing puzzle when Bryce and Helen strike a deal. Also fun ingredient in this is ghosts which is something I have been reading alot of in between mysteries. As they go searching for answers they grow a bond not expected. One of the ghosts is his mother so that was even more intriguing. The thing that is always hanging over them though is the curse with us flipping pages cause it hangs over us too and we want answers.
The McKenna Curse series continues with this fourth edition to Patricia Rosemoor’s series – Defending Hailey. A marriage of convenience soon evolves into a weird and wonderful commune with some determined spirits and also raises questions about Hailey and Bryce’s “platonic” relationship. But curses cannot be ignored, and Bryce is faced with deciding if he is really prepared to risk Hailey’s life and the potential for a happy future. This is another intriguing story that has an abundance of quirky moments and some underlying mystery too. Read them all. They really are a hoot!

I read this ARC for an honest review
All thoughts and opinions are mine
I LOVE Patricia Rosemoor's books and this is the 4th in a series. I have been lucky enough to read the others and this doesn't disappoint
I read this is 1 sitting - just couldn't put down. Loved the characters and the story
Highly recommend
This is the fourth book in this series though it is a re release and was originally released under the title "Deal Breaker" like all the other books in this series it deals with the McKenna family a family that is cursed to lode the ones that they love. A curse that they think is at the root of Bryce MCKenna's mothers loss when he was younger
Bryce is about to lose his company and the only way he can save it is with a influx of money from an investor but that investor only wants to deal with a married man So Bryce asks his childhood friend Hailey Wright if she will have a marriage of convenience with him This suits her fine as she needs urgent money to get a loan shark off her brothers back There is only one problem Hailey can commune with spirits and she is connecting with hos mothers ghost and feelings are starting to develop between these two old friends are they willing to risk her life at the hands of the curse to get a future they both want.
This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy.
Another great romance along with suspense and mystery with the McKenna family and their curse. This time Bryce needs a wife to help get a business deal secured and Hailey needs a lot of money to bail out her older brother who has a gambling problem.
Along with the marriage of convenience, there is the weird things going on at an old house. With several attempts on Hailey's life and growing feelings, Bryce pushes her away to "save" her from the curse.
I was not so good at figuring out "whodunit" in this book and got distracted by other events in the story! There is only one thing that was not explained in the book that still has me confused - when Danny came to visit Hailey in the old house, she thought he picked up something and might be stealing. This was never explained and the reason for him even showing up there seemed odd.
Other than that little blip, this was a great read that kept me engrossed and had a hard time putting it down until I got to the end as I wanted to know who the killer was.
It was fun to read this book as I grew up not far from Lake Geneva and Walworth so really neat to read about my childhood state and some good memories of Lake Geneva!
