Grant is a football player about to retire and is looking to settle down. Katy is an attorney and his ex wife. The two were college sweethearts then got married but ended up divorced due to differing places in their lives. They meet years later in a hotel and end up together for one night that ends up being more for them. I enjoyed this book but wish there was more background on the divorce and before it. All in all a decent read.
I received a copy of this book via Netgalley and am leaving a review.
This is my first book by this author and I really enjoyed it. Sports romance novels are my favorite genre and even though this story really didn’t have any on field action it still came across as a sports novel.
I can’t really say that this is a second chance at love story for Grant & Katy, because they are both so clearly still in love with one another. They just needed to work around what tore them apart before.
I would definitely read more from this author in the future. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book via Netgalley
What a beautiful story of second chances! I truly enjoyed Grant and Katy's story. You could feel their connection and love throughout the book. Even with all their problems, the love remained. It was heartwarming to read their history and their connection that lasted many years and how both were especially sad the best friendship was lost. But goodness, did they sizzle together. And when they opened the lines of communication, it was beautiful. I love the sudden realizations they experienced. This is one couple I would love for their story to continue, a revisit with how the rest of their story unfolds in the future, what becomes of them. They were magical.

The story of Katy and Grant. They divorced a couple of years ago and haven't really seen each other since. A chance meeting in a elevator - will it lead to a second chance romance for them or will they still have the issues that caused them to split up the first time?
The Player's Game was an interesting one for me. It is the story or rekindled romance after divorce. Grant is an NFL player, and Katy, his former wife, is an attorney. When they run into each other while on dates, Grant's jealousy takes over and he basically ruins both dates for everyone involved. Katy then shows up at his hotel room door and asks for one more night together.
The premise of their conciliation and the basis of this second-chance romance is promising, but it never really delivers the emotional punch that I was hoping it would. It seemed more like they got back together just because they were so compatible physically rather than emotionally reconnected. I would have liked more of why they fell apart the first time, what kept them apart and what healed and brought them back together. The story seemed very rushed and not deep enough. It was definitely promising, but never quite got there.
Grant & his ex-wife Katy can't seem to forget each other. After running into each other on Katy's birthday, they embark on a short affair to permanently lay to rest the lingering feelings between them, but find a second chance is all their hearts ever truly wanted.
I liked this read. It was pretty light and uncomplicated. I liked the way that Grant & Katy worked through their issues without too much drama & interference from outside forces. I would have liked to have more of their past to read about, though, so I could get more of a backstory of the couple.
I recommend this steamy, well-paced novel.

Grant is at one of his best friends wedding, and on the way to his room, he shares the elevator with his ex wife, Katy and her date for the evening. The possessiveness in Grant comes out ruining Katy’s night. A night which Katy now wants Grant to help get back on track.
The news of the night somehow gets out, and now Katys boss is thinking that Katy and Grant are working on their relationship. To make them happy Katy and Grant pretend to try and reconcile, and soon the lines between real and pretend start to blend.
Katy and Grant were madly in love and married to each other. But somewhere along the way their dream of a HEA broke. Now they have been given a second chance to right the past wrongs. This is a steamy and emotional second chance romance, that is well paced and easy to read.
Grant and Kathy were college sweethearts who thought their love was invincible until they let the pressures of their careers and their different views of the future cause a wedge between them. Hurtful words were said and rather than trying to compromise they find themselves divorced and facing their futures alone even if they still loved each other.
A few years later a chance meeting in a hotel when they are there with other people leads to fireworks so when they are both dumped by their dates they spend a steamy evening together. All they wanted was one night and they would go back to their regular lives but before they know it they find themselves pretending to be a couple however the feelings between them are quite real. Will this be their second chance or are they destined to repeat the mistakes of their pasts?
When Grant and Kathy were married they both made mistakes as they became focused on their own goals without appreciating what the other wanted but with a little maturity and whole lot of love they realize what and who is truly important in their lives.
I had a hard time with this one. I just couldn't seem to get into the story or connect with the characters. The story seemed rushed and forced at times. This just wasn't my cup of tea.
I did like reading this book, I was not sure if this was going to be another cliche romance novel, if it was I would not have been able to finish it. It was definitely way different than boy meets girl and there are so many obstacles to overcome. I liked that the characters were exes that met again. But there were some points in the story where I kind of rolled my eyes at how the two main characters Katy and Grant were struggling to be together. I feel like the book could have been longer and the ending was kind of sudden wrap up.
Grant is an NFL quarterback, and Katy is an attorney. These two were married and madly in love until career demands take their toll and they end up divorced. Now fate brings them together again in a hotel elevator. Grant has been to a wedding, and Katy is celebrating her 30th birthday, and she has decided to spend the night with a random stranger. When Grant takes exception to seeing Katy with her handsy date he ruins the evening for all of them, so when Katy shows up at his door demanding he make up for ruining her evening, he does. Can Katy separate her personal life and but her job on the back burner? This is a well written story which is emotional, heart-warming, and a steamy 2nd chance love story. The only down-side in my opinion only, it that I struggled just a tad to engage with the characters. I look forward to reading more from this author.
The blur of this book sounds like a really good story, unfortunately for me wasn’t all what I was expecting.
The characters almost lost me at the beginning, but I was hopping that with such a good synopsis it has to be good.
Well I do liked the male hero, he’s such a good guy, very noble and caring person, and that’s one of the reason that I think I decided to keep reading, sure he make mistakes in his marriage but Katy wasn’t specially someone you feel sorry, in fact her attitude feels so selfish, she wants and take advantage of Grant when she needs to please her boss so he don’t fire her.
I honestly never connect with the couple, at least not on how much they supposedly be in love, but I believe Grant, he does catch me and keep me reading until I finish the book, maybe is because with him the author portrait a very kind, caring human who wants to be a father and was planning on adopting a kid from his charity project, that’s something I always love to see and read on books.
The book is definitely a good read, I just wished that the heroine be more confident about herself and maybe that way she stands and fight for her happiness, I guess that’s why she’s so dependent and try to pleases everyone besides her self and at my eyes her character never really attract me.
As I always say, read the book and come up with your own opinion, this book my surprise you on a different way :)
Thank you to the author and #indiesagepr for the advanced copy on exchange for my honest opinion.

This is a sweet and steamy second chance romance. I didn't really connect with the characters but it was still a good story. The ending made me smile.
Katy and Grant used to be married. Then they just happen to bump into each other in a hotel elevator with their booty calls. Grant runs them both off and pissed Katy off in the process.
Katy ends up hunting him down to give her the sex she missed out on. Grant is all too happy to oblige her. Then security footage of Katy knocking on hotel room doors surfaces and her boss thinks they're getting back together and he is all for it.
Katy and Grant make a deal to pretend to try to work things out (and make her boss happy). Rekindling old flames in the process. And getting super steamy while they're at it.
I like reading about a husband who wished he could go and have a second chance with his ex-wife. But this book just didn't do it for me, it just wasn’t what I was expecting.
Grant has been devastated after their divorce. But he's back in the game and living as a player. Katy is a dedicated lawyer who spend all her time building her career. That one time she wanted to let go, Grant went and ruined it for her. So she asked him to make it up to her.
Katy is one character that's I don't know why Katy just immediately agree to sleep with Grant just so he could make it up to her. Yes, he ruined her birthday, but you don't just do that especially to your ex-husband who still love you. Then again, when her boss was happy that they're getting back together, she jumped on it and make Grant pretend they're back together with her. It was like her boss has the right to dictate her relationship. It's just that I don't agree with things she does and she didn't realise that she's hurting and making it difficult for Grant. I like Grant because he's so protective and attentive, even when Katy thinks he's overbearing. But I didn't think so. I would say he's more emotional than Katy
Second chance with your ex..? Most people say exes are exes for a reason. And yet Katy and Grant never fell out of love...they just let their pride and insecurities drive a wedge in between them.
The best do over meet cute... riding in an elevator with you ex and each of your prospective hookups. Yes, that happens. From then on, these two act completely out of character and wind up back where they belong...in each others arms.
Watch them grow even more and finally back together in The Player's Game.
Wow this book was not what I was expected. I expected a nice second chance romance with a bit of added steam. The steam was surely in full force. I love some good spicy scenes but I must admit this was a bit too much. The scenes were rushed.
You know, that is a good phrase for this book. Everything was rushed. What I did read felt a bit sloppy. I didn't enjoy the narrative the couple used. I did not finish this book.
It destroys me to leave negative feedback. I wanted to like this. I really did. It sounds good, but the execution needed some work.
Thank You Entangled for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Katy decided to visit a resort for her 30th birthday. Her goal was a one-night stand with a man she would never see again. Things were going well, until she and her hook-up ran into her ex-husband Grant and his hook-up on a hotel elevator. Things went from bad to worse when her jealous ex told her hook-up to get his hands off of his wife...
After explaining the disaster to a friend, Katy’s friend suggested that Katy find Grant and ask him to provide her with the sex that she was looking for. Katy took the advice, but was less than quiet as she went looking for Grant. While he and Grant had a great night, they were both unaware that unseen cameras were recording their interactions and later posting them to social media sites. Unfortunately, Grant’s position as a first string professional quarterback made the footage very newsworthy.
Katy’s boss is elated when he gets wind of the fact that Katy and her football idol might be getting back together. He gives Katy time off work to spend more time with Grant. Grant and Katy agree to spend time together in public to help both their careers. While the become closer, they also begin to recall some of the reasons they broke up - none of which involved a lack of love on either of their parts.
Can two people who have been very much in love for many years, get over the obstacles that have kept them apart? (My only complaint is that a little more character development and a little less “sex” would have helped the storyline!)
This book has two great things going for it: its premise and its characters. A second chance romance between a divorced couple that starts when they accidentally meet in an elevator where they're both with other people is the perfect start to a story with great potential. Add to that two very likable and relatable characters and you're halfway there to a deeply satisfying romance. The rest is the details, the journey, the pacing. That's were this book missed it's mark. Even with some good elements, the story was so rushed that there was no sense of build-up and the events felt forced. A longer book could have achieved the same end result with a more exciting journey.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
A lighthearted and funny story. Grant and Katy are divorced but haven’t gotten over each other. An accidental elevator meeting sets the stage for them ending up right back in bed. They steam up the pages as they recapture all the reasons why they should still be together. Fun characters that will keep you entertained as you turn the pages.
They once shared a home, a life, and a last name... but somewhere along the way things went array and it lead to divorce. One that Grant regrets still to this day, he wishes he never let Katy walk away, and if he ever had a second chance with her he would take it in a heartbeat. But he is certain that chance will never come... or will it?
The Player's Game is a story of second chances and righting the wrongs of the past. Katy and Grant were once married and had their future all laid out in front of them, but dreams of success derailed their chance at a happily ever after. Katy is a driven woman who craved success at every level in her career, and she let it take over her life, often pushing her life with Grant aside. While he too had his distractions, he still tried to make time for her, but it wasn't enough. Now he is on the tale end of his football career and looking forward to settling down and having a family... only he has no one to do that with.
Then a chance meeting with Katy in an elevator sparks a little love affair and suddenly these two are looking at a second chance they never thought would come. I enjoyed watching these two fall for one another again, they had me fully invested in their story from beginning to end. It wasn't a easy fall, their work lives were once again at the center of relationship, but Grant tried his best to make Katy see that wasn't all she needed, that she needed love in her life too. She wasn't an easy sale though, she was having a hard time putting her work life on the back burner for love and her own happiness... but this time Grant wasn't giving up. This heart-string tugging tale will have your heart in throat at times, but also have it soaring at times too... nothing is sweeter than a second chance at love! If you like steamy and emotional second chance romances then this one should be right up your alley... it has all that and more!
