A steamy second chance romance.
NFL quarterback Grant Howard is out-of-town at his best friends wedding. On his way up to his room, he runs into his ex-wife Katy. The guy she's with is getting a little too handsy and he can't help but say something. Next thing they know they are both standing there dateless.
Now Katy's at his door, he ruined her evening plans for her 30th birthday so it's only fair that he make it up to her.
The steam is there from the get-go. This couple doesn't doubt their physical chemistry. They had other issues that put stress on their marriage. So they both jump at the chance to have some fun for the night.
Of course, it's not that simple. And now they have to spend some time together because of outside forces.
Katy- young up and coming lawyer. Lots of self-doubt, Lack of confidence mostly from an overbearing father figure. Ex wife to Grant
Grant- veteran NFL football player. Top of his game. All Star Quarterback for the NYC team. Has a strong protect and Provide vibe. Ex-husband to Katy
Trope: Second Chance Romance.
A random meet between Grant and Katy after being apart 2 years. A leaked video from that night of Katy knocking on random hotel doors to find Grants room. A push from both Katy’s boss and her best friend puts her back in Grant’s life temporarily. One thing Katy and Grant always did well was the bedroom. They still have all the heat. It is finding balance in the other aspects of their lives that cause them issues. For Katy she has always made her career her biggest priority. Grant really wants family.
Both Characters are relatable. They are both well written. In the beginning you love Katy but you do feel like she is just using Grant to keep her boss happy. As the story progresses you aren’t sure she is really with Grant for the right reasons. Grants is the strong protector provider type. No matter what Katy does he will always care about her and she is always going to be his person.
You really want Grant to have the HEA. He is such a good guy overall. This is book 2 in the series. I read it as a stand alone and was just fine. This was a 4/5 read for me. A quick and easy Second Chance Romance Read.
Katy and Grant go from pretending to a real relationship!
Quarterback Grant Howard still wasn’t over his ex-wife lawyer Katy McCord so when he ran into her, he had to say something to Katy ruining both of their plans for the evening. Katy tried to find Grant to give him a piece of her mind. Katy and Grant had to pretend they were working on their relationship when the video of her knocking on doors went viral.
The Player's Game is about Grant and Katy pretending to repair what went wrong to finding out that they still love each other and are stronger together when things happen.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I received a copy of THE PLAYER’S GAME on NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. Thank you to the author and publisher for this opportunity.
FOUR stars and here’s why:
I’m a sucker for a second chance romance and ALICE GAINES delivered. Grant and Katy have chemistry in spades. If you love hot romance with a side of drama, then this book is for you. I read it in one sitting just to find what happened next. Highly recommend!
This is a relatively new author for me and i really enjoyed this story from the start it grabbed my attention and I really liked the characters.
It's a hot and steamy romance novel that's perfect for those looking to spend there free time well. The story is good but the best part is the characters, I loved both of them. It is well-paced and well-written. It has everything one might look in a romance novel.
Grant is a football player who will retire soon. He wants a family and stability in life. Most importantly he needs a life partner who can support him. His ex-wife was definitely not that kind of person. She was too focused on her carrier and had no time for him. He isn't sure where everything went wrong. One thing is clear, he is not over her.
Since her divorce, Katy hasn't dated anyone. Now she believes that it is finally time to get back into the game. Unfortunately, her luck isn't on her side and she runs into her ex. Grant ended up ruining a romantic night for her and now she wants him to make it up to her. Somehow things got out of hands and the two ended up sleeping together. Now, things have gotten more complicated than ever. Will the two reconcile or is the divorce between them too much to get over?
If you are looking for steamy romance novel then this book is for you.
I loved this book! It made the winter nights a little warmer. This is my first Alice Gaines and I have zero regrets because I enjoyed this second chance romance. If you enjoy sports romances and second chance romances with a lot of steam then you need to read this book. Enjoyed it xx Thanks to the publisher for my copy
This book grabbed my attention immediately from the cover and then made me want to read it based on the description. From the very beginning of this novel, I felt the writing was rushed. I was shocked to learn this wasn't this authors first book and that they actually have released many books previously. Personally, it was not my style. It felt like nothing really mattered to the story, just the sex scenes. No character build up and barely any background story, just briefly touching base on the subjects so it marginally made sense and then moving on.
I really hate not finishing books and even though I contemplated not finishing this book at the 15% - 20% mark, I forced myself to continue reading. But finally at about 70%, I had enough. This paragraph was so cringey on so many levels, that I was just done.
She watched him as he toed out of his shoes and pulled his polo shirt over his head. When he unzipped his fly and pushed his slacks and boxers over his hips, he revealed himself as only partially erect. She didn’t comment but continued to stare at him as if he were the most fascinating creature on earth. After sitting on the bed , he removed his slacks and socks, making him completely naked. Then he reached a hand over and stroked her cheek. “I didn’t bring you here to talk about unhappy times.” “I know.” She smiled. “I think too much sometimes.” He laughed. “Major understatement.” “Whatcha gonna to do about it?”
1) Why would someone comment on a partially erect penis? That's weird.
2) They are about to have sex, why is he taking the time to remove every single article of clothing, including his socks. Also weird and certainly would ruin the mood.
3) "Whatcha gonna to do about it?" - What are you a child? And that's not even proper English and this woman is supposed to be a lawyer? Nope, just nope.
Anyway, rant over. Would not recommend. Would not recommend this author. 1/5 stars
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for my free copy of the ebook in exchange for my honest review. I liked the premise of two ex’s getting back together. I wanted to know how that would work in a romance book. .
Grant. the football player, and Katy, the lawyer, had a hot night together that they thought would be one night. One night of course led to more.
There wasn’t any background on why they divorced. It would have helped to see what else led to a divorce besides a few words being said. That and maybe flashbacks on when they started dating. I liked them together but hoped more conversations on what happened before things was resolved. The ending was cute.
Beautiful second chance romance. Grant and Katy are divorced and see each other at a wedding. There's a video, drama, hot chemistry and love. Grant and Katy have to pretend to reconciling for her position but as they spend time together old feelings resurface and they become aware of the reasons for their divorce. An accident brings them back together where they both had to make decisions that affect their careers and future.
Grant is at his best friends wedding. He knows he will pick up one of the single women at the wedding and take her back to his room for some good sex. However, he really wishes that it could be the one woman that meant everything to him, his ex-wife Katy. On his way to his floor in the elevator, the last person he expected to enter was his ex-wife, and she’s with some douche who keeps touching her. Grant realizes if he says something, that will end both of their nights with their hookups. Sure enough, as soon as he tells the guy to take his hands off his wife, they are left alone in the elevator. Well, this wasn’t how he was planning on spending his night. Turns out his night just got a lot better when Katy shows up at his door yelling at him for ruining her birthday gift to herself with mindless sex, and she wants him to make it up to her. Who is he to say no, to the woman he still has feelings for.
It appears that there was a video of her going door to door at the hotel looking for Grant, and now her boss wants her to take time off to reconcile her marriage. Making this phone call to Grant is one of the hardest things she’s had to do lately, but it could mean a promotion in the law firm she works at. Now that he’s agreed, off they go in a promotional tour with his teammates visiting Boys and Girls Clubs. It never was that they stopped loving each other, their work lives got in the way of their marriage. This week together has brought them together in a way Katy hadn’t expected. But it is short lived.
Grant knows when they go back to living separate lives, it’s going to hurt him even more than when they got divorced. He wants children and Katy wants to make partner. He wants to convince Katy that now that they are older, they can make it work. Will she take that chance with him?
The Player's Game is about Grant and Katy. Grant a quarterback in the NFL and Katy is an attorney. The two are divorced and haven't spoken since. By sheer coincidence, they run into each other in an elevator and Grant ruins Katy's birthday night of fun. She goes looking for him to get what she came to the hotel for - a one night stand. After they are outed on social media, they make a go at being in a relationship and soon realize that they want to be together.
I liked this one! It was a quick read. The characters were likable and I always enjoy a second chance romance.
Thanks to NetGalley and Entangled: Indulgence for and eARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book both broke my heart but also gave me hope.
Grant has and will always be in love with his ex-wife. Even though they divorced, it wasn't because they stopped loving each other, it was more that they didn't see their lives going in the same direction.
Katy is a woman who has a very demanding job and an equally father she just won't ever measure up to. While she won't admit it, because of these issues, she does tend to me a little insecure about herself and unfortunately took it out on Grant.
The sexy times were extremely hot in this book but the emotional ride for me was my more fun. These two are good together but they need to work out past issues if they want to ever get the chance to start again.
The Player's Game by Alice Gaines was such an enjoyable read! I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys second-chance, steamy reads!
Katy and Grant were madly in love once upon a time. When they got married, they thought it would last forever. But then divorce happened. They just weren't meant to be. A few years later they meet again inside an elevator, with their dates beside them. Katy decided to celebrate her 30th birthday by having some fun with a random guy, but Grant unexpectedly was there to spoil her plans.
Grant didn't like it one bit when he saw a stranger's hand wrapped around his ex wife. The famous football player didn't even hesitate to ruin both her night and his. Little did they know their night was far from ruined.
Katy is a woman who knows what she wants. So when Grant spoils her plans, she's not about to let him get away with it. She has the perfect idea; since they both lost their dates for the night, why not sleep together? One steamy night and then they will part ways. Nothing could go wrong, right?
Well... When they find themselves in each other's arms, old feelings start to resurface. And suddenly one night doesn't seem enough anymore. Will they be able to resist temptation?
If you like quick and dirty romances look no further. The focus of this one definitely seemed more on sex than relationships but I still enjoyed it. I will definitely be reading more from Alice Gaines.
As a starting NFL quarterback, I do okay, and I haven’t been lacking for female companionship. But I’d give it all up in a heartbeat if I could get back the woman I loved and lost my ex-wife, Katy. When I started reading I couldn't put it down.Alice Gaines is magnifysent and amazing writer.I cannot wait to read more of there books.Keep up the great work. You should definitely read this books. Can't wait for the next book
Book: The Player’s game
Author: Alice Gaines
Summary: ‘The Player’s game’ is about a divorced couple who run into each other and due to some incidents, begin an affair. Will their love triumph or will their past be the end of them?
Katy was sarcastic, ambitious, and hard-working. She tries to work through her law career. Grant was a football player and had a ‘provide and protect’ motto throughout his life. He was easy to admire. Details about the main characters’ careers make the reader understand them better. A lot of the steamy scenes were intense and well-written. Communication issues play a key role in many divorces and emphasis on that made the characters more real. In the 1st half of the book, Grant seemed more sensible and clear than Katy. Her character growth was well developed and she sorted through her insecurities and uncertainties by the end of the book.
The setting of the story seemed incomplete. Both the characters were relatively apathetic towards the divorce. The part of the plot when the female character’s professional and personal life entwine felt far-fetched. The characters were not interesting enough to keep the reader engaged throughout the book. ‘The Player’s game’ could use some suspense and angst.
This book is recommended for fans of erotic romance and readers who are interested in a second chance romance. ARC is provided by the publisher and NetGalley. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
The Player's Game, is a very erotic novel. Nice because they didn't have to do the getting to know you phase since they were divorced. I enjoyed this spin on getting back together. The A ha moment that Katy has when she realized that she is someone on her own without help from Grant, was perfect.
Nope.
I could not get into this one at all. I gave up around 10% and didn’t even try to skip around. This one did absolutely nothing for me.
so we have Grant who is at his friends wedding and while he happy for them that they found their happiness, it reminds him about the woman he loves his ex-wife and wished they would have made it. Coincidentally he ends up seeing her in the elevator and he thinking this was fate since he was just thinking of her but she happens to be with some guy and he intervenes..Katy is pissed he messed with her on her birthday and since she lost her chance she feels that Grant has to give her the sex he missed. These two have chemistry and different views, he wants his wife back, and eventually kids. She is on the way up and not wanting children and not wanting anything serious, who will win..
