This sounded like it would be exactly what I was looking for, but unfortunately, even the lovely writing style wasn't enough for me to care about the protagonists. I think the biggest problem was that the switching between the two timelines wasn't smooth enough, and I couldn't figure out what was going on. Sorry, but after trying to read this several times, I realized I just wasn't enjoying it enough to finish reading it.
