This book started out as a slow read for me. When this book picked up you enjoyed the drama and suspense. Billingsley has a way with writing a great novel. I was shocked at the ending. I am looking forward to reading more books by this author.
With a little bit of betrayal, a little bit of humor, a little bit of suspense, and a little bit of everything that makes a great read, A Little Bit if Karma is a page turner. Responds Tate Billingsley penned a novel that engages you from start to finish. Marriage is no cake walk and The Lovejoys are about to take you on an emotional journey that showcase the bitter and the sweet sides of it all.
This book did a bit too much. The “twist” with the dead mistress and the main characters suddenly turning into novice detectives moved this book from relatable to not so much. A bit disappointing.
Okay- this has a lot of drama- a lot- but I kept turning the pages! Jay and Shannon Lovejoy have put on a united face to the world, especially on their radio program, so much so that Essence Magazine highlighted them. However (isn't there always a however?), Jay has been cheating on Shannon with Vonda, who turns up at an event. This leads to a big argument between the three of them which is ad but not as bad at the fact that she then is found dead- in their hotel suite. Of course, they are suspects but they know they didn't do it. Who did? The twists in the second half of the book are well done and kept me guessing. Thanks to netgalley for the ARC. Highly entertaining.
ReShonda Tate Billingsley writes a very evocative and steamy story about the secrets and lies that exist within a what appears to be the perfect marriage.
Shannon and Jay Lovejoy are a rich and successful power couple who are loved and respected by their fans of their call-in radio show. But after three years, their once passionate and loving romance has fizzled due to infidelity and deceit and is on the brink of divorce. While fulfilling their obligations at their couples conference Jay's mistress decides to show up. This causes chaos all around. But things really become chaotic when the mistress turns up dead. Now Shannon and Jay are on the run attempting to prove their innocence. During all this stress the couple will begin to reflect on what is important in a marriage and whether they can save theirs.
This was an ARC copy given to me by netgalley.
A Little Bit Of Karma should have been called A Whole Lot Of Karma cuz Karma came through and showed out with this one.
Jay and Shannon Lovejoy are a married couple who gives relationship advice on the radio. Jay a former R&B singer, Shannon a psychologist. One would think they would be the perfect couple. One would be wrong. The first half of this book takes us through the couple's turmoil while the second half is more of a whodunnit that the Lovejoys need to figure out in order to stay alive.
When I first began reading this book I thought it would be relationship drama and I continued to wait to see what drama would unfold. When RTB threw that curve ball, I was not ready! It literally kept me on the edge of my seat and i couldn't be happier that things ended the way they did. My only issue, and I hope when I purchase the hard copy, is that there were some issues between calling one of the characters grandmother and mother. Otherwise 5 star read!
Jay and Shannon appeared to have a happy marriage to their radio listeners, but in reality, it was anything but pleasant. Both had their own set of issues and did not deal with them appropriately.
There were a lot of moments I wanted to grab Jay and shake some sense into him. I understood his reasoning, but that doesn't make it right. Although I sympathy for Shannon, I felt as though there were times she came off too strong. How can you begin to heal when you can't admit your faults?
Overall, I liked the fact of not knowing what was going to happen next or the outcome. The drama and suspense were surprising but necessary. By the end, I was also happy to see both characters had shown maturity.
This is an interesting read that required me to sleep on my rating. On one hand, the character's motives are consistent due to how selfish they are. On the other hand, the story is trying to due way too much for the characters to be as selfish as they are at times.
Jay and Shannon Lovejoy appears to have the perfect marriage. A power couple that has built their brand on helping couples in troubled relationships. The Lovejoys were once named Couple Of The Century by Essence magazine. Jay, a former R&B singer and Dr. Shannon, a former therapist, are the hosts of syndicated radio show and best selling authors with strong social media following. To the world , it looks like they have it all. But in reality, after 3 years of marriage the Lovejoys are experiencing trouble in paradise. Little do their listeners know, they are on verge of divorce. Frustrated with his wife’s attitude, Jay begins having an extra martial affair. But, when his mistress turns up dead, Jay and Shannon’s whole world is flipped upside down.
⠀
In the first half of the book we learn a lot about the Lovejoys as a couple. This was my favorite part of the book. I liked reading about their journey, their emotions and their issues.
⠀
By the second half of the book, the story begins to change direction. This is where the twists and turns begin. All of the suspense made for a thrilling page turner.
⠀
The story was told from Shannon Lovejoy’s POV. I found her character relatable and consistent. What I liked most about her is that by the end of the story she was able to take a look at her own behaviors and admit her flaws. Growth.
As for for her husband Jeff, I wanted to choke him throughout the entire book.
⠀
Now I must admit, the second half of the story didn’t grab me as much as the first half. And for that reason I give the book 4/5⭐️s. This is my first time reading a book written by @reshondatatebillingsley. I absolutely love her style of writing. Very engaging. I will definitely be reading more of her work.
A Little Bit of Karma by ReShonda Tate Billingsley
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
This is a book that I was able to receive from @ in exchange for an honest review.
First things first, I thoroughly enjoyed this read. It was full of drama, suspense, and had a bittersweet ending.
Dr. Shannon and Jay Lovejoy were couple goals, everyone’s favorite, and the experts in all things love. But, their marriage is not as perfect as they make it seem. Jay was dead wrong for what he did to Shannon but a part of me empathized with him. I felt Shannon’s pain, as well. In the middle of their relationship woes the couple is framed for murder. At that point, I found myself unable to stop reading! I needed to know what was going to happen next.
Good read for me!
A Little Bit of Karma by ReShonda Tate Billingsley is a fun read that readers will enjoy. I featured it as Book of the Day on my social media platforms and in a roundup of new releases on my blog.
Meet Dr. Shannon and Jay Lovejoy. They are the couple that most people admire and reach out for advice. Unfortunately, they do not always follow their own advice. What happens when these two stop communicating and start coexisting? What happens when love is no longer enough? Find out this and more in “A Little Bit of Karma”.
All i can say is I loved this book. A good read from the time i started till the last page. Loved the suspense and twist of the plot. Kudos Ms Tate Billingsley! You MUST do a sequel....Is Vincent going too get his money?
To their fans, they were the perfect couple with all of the relationship answers, but Shannon and Jay Lovejoy, radio talk show hosts, reality was far from the truth and now they must face the world with the news that even their little slice of marital paradise has crashed hard on the shores of selfish failure.
A LITTLE BIT OF KARMA by ReShonda Tate Billingsley has a little of everything, suspense, betrayal, bitterness and even a little fun along the way as she navigates some brutal human failings that would test the patience of a saint, which neither of these characters are.
Emotionally riveting, readers cannot help but become invested in the events of this book, the good, the bad and the ugly sides of marriage, communication and the bravado of the ego. Well written, yet filled with subject matter that is a total taboo for me, I still found myself turning page after page as these slightly unlikeable characters reveal human flaw after human flaw.
I received a complimentary ARC edition from Gallery Books! This is my honest and voluntary review.
I am a fan of this author, and this books had a little bit of twis and turns, but not one of her best. I went thru the book fast just to get to the end and end it. I will hand sell it because she is a good writer. Not every author can have all outstanding good books.
I really wanted to like this book. The writing is good, the fact that it's a romantic story with mystery/action thrown in is a huge plus, but... ***SPOILER ALERT!***
I DO NOT abide by books in which a man cheats on his wife and still ends up patching things up. Worse, he actually blames her for the cheating. What has made her into such an angry, bitter harpy that he just has to fall into the arms of another woman? He got a vasectomy behind her back because he didn't want children.
Yikes. I'm done. No way. There's nothing redeeming about taking back a man who does this. DNF for me, don't care if it turns out to be a big mixup or whatever (although that doesn't seem likely, given the sexual text messages and photos that the FMC intercepts).
I honestly wasn't sure what to expect from this book, but I have to say some of the twists were pleasant surprises. I hope that the story is continued with a sequel, because there is some unfinished business here. ReShonda Tate Billingsley's characters are complex, and the settings are highly cinematic -- I felt like I was watching everything unfold. I'm looking forward to picking up other works by Ms. Billingsley! This review is based on an advanced copy through NetGalley.
Our girl ReShonda Tate Billingsley is back with a new book due out soon. This book takes readers on a wild ride of deception, secret affairs, and murder.
The quick rundown: The Lovejoys are a successful power couple on the brink of divorce. They think they’ve seen the worst of their marriage until they are the prime suspects of a murder investigation.
Confession: I didn’t enjoy this book initially. Why? I thought I knew where we were going until the story took a sharp left turn and surprised me, big time.
To not spoil it, I will say that this book is an adventure featuring the Lovejoys. These two, who make a living giving relationship advice, are forced to take the advice they dish out to their listeners and followers. I enjoyed the message of this book because, baaaaabbbbbyyyyyy, if you’ve been married, you KNOW marriage is no joke ok?! It is hard work.
In short, I enjoyed it and fans of ReShonda’s work will too. Check it out!
I received an ARC from NetGalley to read and review.
A Little Bit of Karma is the latest story from ReShonda Tate Billingsley. I would give it 3 and a half stars, so upping it to 4. In the beginning of the book I thought I knew exactly where the story was going. I was correct, but thankfully also wrong. A mystery thrown in with the romance makes this an interesting tale. I want to thank Netgalley and Gallery Books for an early copy to review.
So it took me a couple of days to finish this book, but only because I had to work. ReShonda Tate Billingsley does not disappoint. Jay and Shannon Lovejoy are a successful couple who have built their success on their ability to help others maintain relationships. However, it appears that all is not right in the Lovejoy household, but they have to carry on as there is an expensive retreat that they must attend with their fans. It is at this retreat that things begin to go from bad to worse. Now are the Lovejoys not only dealing with the rift in their marriage, but it appears that they have committed a crime. Or are they being framed? Only time will tell. It is a book that is not the typical genre of Billingsley. However, the intrigue, romance and suspense will keep you turning page after page. Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for the opportunity to review this book.
