The Princess and the Rogue is a third book in a series that is a standalone novel. This is the first book I've read by Kate Bateman, but I look forward to reading more. I had a hard time putting this one down.

A princess on the run and undercover and a Bow Street agent who doesn't believe in love. A chance meeting in a brothel, an attempted kidnapping (or two) and a somewhat forced proximity lead to growing romance. But can a true romance ever develop between a princess and a rogue?

I just reviewed The Princess and the Rogue by Kate Bateman. #NetGalley

Anya and Sebastien have great chemistry and there was just enough push and pull to lure me in and keep me reading of their journey! The banter was full of humorous quips and sass which is my favorite. A fun, sexy regency romp.

This was a fun story about a Princess in disguise. There were a lot of predictable tropes but the joy and fun of the story saves it from falling in to those trope traps!

3.5/5⭐️

Final in a trilogy (I’ve read the second one too) and only the second book I’ve read from Bateman. While overall a good story with a couple of original scenes for a historical romance, I found it pretty much par for the course as far as predictability.

Russian Princess Anya is incognito as she flees from France to London from a villain. Earl Sebastien Wolff, as a favor to his great aunt, protects Anya at his gaming hall. Hijinks and love ensue. Just OK for me.

Thanks to #NetGalley and #StMartinsPress for providing me the ARC. The opinions are strictly my own.

The Hero and Heroine of this book were enjoyable and there was a delightful, slightly unbelievable twist ending. I rarely see a Russian character so that was a unique change.

The third instalment of Bow Street Bachelors is just as exciting and full of adventure as you'd expect after reading the first two books in the series. Though it is in a series, it can definitely stand alone as well. The characters are interesting and have immediately chemistry, which will keep you turning the pages.

I chose this book because of the reference to a Russian princess and of course I love watching a confirmed bachelor lose his heart to a strong woman.

Princess Anastasia (Anya) Denisova aka Anna Brown is a cunning and take-charge heroine who will do anything to survive including living a life way below her means to avoid a traitor determined to marry her for her fortune. Her ease of making friends no matter their class is admirable and a testament to her wonderful character.

The tall, dark, and brooding Lord Sebastien Wolff, is a force to be reckoned with. He is a veteran of the Battle of Waterloo, a Bow Street Runner, co-owner of the Tricorn gambling hall, and the last of the “Unholy Trinity” rogues considering his two best friends are married.

Anya and Seb are a challenging pair with instant chemistry between them. I love Anya’s quick wit and sharp intellect which are a great complement to Seb’s sarcastic jibes and demanding demeanor. Their first meeting in the brothel is memorable, but it’s their first intimate assignation in his bedroom with Seb in the chair and Anya in control that is extraordinarily sexy and unforgettable.

In addition to the wonderful characters, I was intrigued by the references to Russian cuisine, superstitions, and traditions. I don’t think I’ve read anything involving a historical Russian heroine in a very long time. In fact, I rarely, find a romance set in the aftermath of the Battle of Waterloo.

Overall, I enjoyed this captivating historical romance filled with charming characters, intrigue, and documented events. Recommend highly!

A Russian Princess and a Bow Street agent – the perfect recipe for a different story!

Anna and Seb didn’t hit it off in the beginning, especially considering that Seb believed that Anna was fooling and endangering his grandmother.

This forced proximity story ticks all the boxes for a romance from… maybe not completely enemies (but close enough) to lovers, with lots of danger, history, and sexy times in between.

Although I haven’t read the previous books in the series, I really enjoyed meeting the characters that formed the original owners/lodgers of the gambling hell where our hero currently lives. It was very interesting to read about Sebastian’s feeling regarding the changes in his life, and how he was dealing with it, which not the most common situation in romances. You might have the teasing between friends saying “you’re the last one, it’s your time to find a partner”, but here we had the hero actually working through his own feelings of, in a way, losing his best friends, even though they are still around.

I really liked Anna, she was very fierce, very determined, very loyal, and very resilient. Not everyone would be able to change lives the way she did. And she took control of what she could!

As they slowly fall in love, we see some romantic gestures, and how each of them pays close attention to one another. The writing was compelling, and the book had a good pacing. An enjoyable read.

This book was so fun!!!

I have never read a Kate Bateman and I hadn't read the first 2 books in this trilogy. I don't feel like I was missing anything but I am very excited to go back and read about the other two men of Bow Street, who we see with their wives in this one.

This book starts off with a GREAT first chapter and it had me on the edge of my seat. We meet Princess Anya as she and her maid are trying to flee Russia after her brothers murder. We have a villain, Petrov, who is a traitor to Russia and he wants to make Anya marry him so that she can't turn evidence against him. He tries to force himself on her and after her maid stops him, they flee. (Honestly, you will get SUCH Anastasia vibes.)

We pick up our story 1 year later in London and Anya is a companion to a wealthy Dowager Duchess and she encounters our roguish Hero Sebastian Wolfe when they encounter each other at a brothel. She is there teaching writing lessons to prostitutes and he makes an outrageous offer for her "services". She lets him flirt and kiss with her before she leaves him with his mouth hanging open.

Of course, Sebastian is her employers wayward great-nephew and they encounter each other again when Anya is being tracked by Petrov. The Dowager, who knows who Anya really is, charges him to protect her, as he works for Bow Street and can keep her safe. He knows her only as Anna Brown and thinks she was an acquaintance of the late Princess Anastasia and that's why Petrov is trying to get ahold of her.

So, this becomes a close proximity novel and the sexual tension is delicious. Anya never thought she would live the life she is living now and though she is in danger, she is more free than she ever could have been as a Princess in Russia. When Sebastian offers to teach her some pleasure, she has to decide if she wants to live in the moment.

I loved this book from the beginning, and I think it really kept things moving along nicely. I loved both characters. Sebastian is just roguish enough and his opening scene with Anya in the brothel had me blushing with delight. It was a lot of fun too. There is mystery they are trying to solve and some danger to keep things interesting. Not to mention, Anya is hiding her identity, not just from Petrov, but from Sebastian too.

If you love a quick, fun, witty, and sexy Historical Romance, I highly recommend The Princess and the Rogue. I plan to go back to the other two books ASASP.

5/5 Royal Stars.

This book was fun to read and it had me laughing, cheering, cringing and gasping. It starts with Princess Anya and her best friend hiding diamonds in order to escape Paris after Napoléon's fall at Waterloo. With the loss of her brother, Anya has no one to protect her and when Count Petrov, the man her brother suspected of treason, tracks her down and threatens her, she has no choice but to flee and hide. In London, Princess Anya becomes Ann Brown and finds herself a job as a companion to the Dowager Duchess of Winwick and a tutor to the ladies in the brothel next door to where she and her best friend now live. One night, Anya is accidentally propositioned at the brothel by Seb, the Earl of Mowbray who also happens to be the great-nephew of the Dowager Duchess.
Seb is an investigator for Bow Street and part owner of a gaming house. He does not believe in settling down with one lady and continuously teases his friends about their marriages and staying with one lady forever. They in turn cannot wait for the day when some lady turns Seb on his ear and upsets his world. The Dowager Duchess soon has to enlists Seb's help in protecting Anya from Count Petrov who has tracked her down in order to get the information that he thinks she has. Seb knows that neither Ann Brown nor Anya Ivanov are Anya's real name, but little does he know that she is an actual Russian Princess. While he is protecting her, he enlists her help in spying on the Russian contingency in London and Anya in turn rattles Seb's cage and causes him all sorts of trouble.
What happens when Anya's true identity is known? Can Seb protect her and not succumb to love? Can a Princess and an Earl marry? Enjoy reading the book to find out the answers.
Thanks to NetGalley, Kate Bateman, and St. Martin's I was able to read an ARC of this book. This is my freely given review and all thoughts and opinions are strictly my own.

Unfortunately, this one was not for me. I was really looking forward to it, because the premise was so interesting and definitely sounded different from most historical romances I read and I've read previous books in this series and really enjoyed them but I was just not interested in the love interest AT ALL. He was a bit too conceited and full of himself for me and I quickly got annoyed by it. I might pick this one up later because I did love the FMC and her backstory, but we'll see. I've had this on my currently reading list for weeks now and I just don't think I want to finish it, sadly.

Kate Bateman is an automatic buy for me, she’s just a fantastic author. This story starts off with the princess having to disguise herself in order to escape a forced marriage. She meets the hero in a brothel in which he offers her money for her services. The princess is intrigued with the rogue and little does she know that she’s working for his aunt. His aunt throws them together and the rest is a story about how 2 people fall in love. Happy reading.

I received a copy through Netgalley.

A new to me author and series that hit it out of the park.

Take A courageous, intelligent and sensible heroine, a rake with a heart of gold in ice and snarky hero, charming secondary characters and witty banter and shake well.

This is a fantastic book. Some parts are more Romanceland than others but it a delightful page turner.

This book was a sensual story between a princess in hiding and a rake who doesn’t believe in love. The blend of humor, sensuality, and suspense in this story is a winning combination in an enjoyable story that keeps the readers attention. I got lost in the story and the characters and it felt like the story just flew by and I delighted over the ending.

This historical romance is full of mystery, intrigue and witty dialogue. The two main characters are easy to love, and I rooted for them throughout the entire story. I also loved revisiting with the other characters from past books in the series. It was a quick read, and I can't wait until the next one. I received an advanced reader's copy from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

A regency tale of treachery, deception, murder and lust which bring a runaway Russian Princess and an English Earl together in a very unusual first meeting. He is unaware of her elevated status, and thinks she is just a beautiful light skirt, as he first meets her in a bordello. His interest is aroused and his passion is left unsatisfied after she turns down his very high priced overture. He later learns she is his Aunt's companion and her purported status. Although he is still unsure of her status he takes her under his protection and enlists her help in identifying a Russian traitor. Their passions become even more enflamed during this time period and both have to make a decision on the correct and appropriate course of action to take

I have rated this book 4 stars and recommend it to all readers who enjoy a Regency romance romp.

I received an ARC from Netgalley for my unbiased review. The above remarks are my thoughts and not influenced by the author of publisher.
