More like The Princess and the Protector! Great story! Very strong minded heroine. Anya faced her challenges strongly. Sebastián is a rogue, a warrior and a man unaware that his world is about to change. Great read! Enjoy!
I received an advanced readers copy in exchange for an honest review
Really wanted to like this one because it was so different, but I could have used a little more old fashioned romance
I have really enjoyed reading the Bow Street Bachelors series. I have always loved reading about princess in disguise. Princess Anastasia has had to live with in disguise as Anna Brown. The Bow Street agent Sebastien Wolff, Earl of Mowbray is a man who does not believe in love. But when he meets a stranger in a brothel who kisses him he may have to change his mind. With some traitor after her she no choice but to accept Wolff's protection. I really did not see the ending coming. I hope you enjoy the book as much as I did.
This book took my breath away. It was filled with action, humor, mystery and passion. When I received this book from NetGalley I was so excited to read it that I started immediately and finished it within the day.
The hero is your typical bachelor - handsome, established, and enjoys life’s pleasures. A bit of an alpha male too. The heroine is just admirable in her beauty, strength and maturity. The story was well-written. I am not so much a stickler for authenticity to the tiniest details so that helped me enjoy the way the book was written. The banter between the hero and his friends and the hero and heroine can sometimes be hilarious. The connection between the hero and heroine and the way they met was flawless. The lovemaking scenes was hot. The twists and turns are a nice addition to the story but it was not the main event. The main event was the love between the hero and heroine. And towards the end the gestures made by the hero to express his love was just sigh worthy.
This book was entertaining from beginning to end.
This is my first book from Kate Bateman(at least that I can remember) and honestly am shocked. I wasn't looking for a historical romance so when I was invited to read this one, I was like sure, why not.
And I'm thrilled I agreed.
Anya, Princess Anastasia Denisova, is an honest delight. She is practical and headstrong and refused to be a damsel in distress. Bring in Sebastien Wolff, Earl of Mowbray, and boom! Instant chemistry.
Now, Sebastien wasn't the most typical rogue but I didn't mind it. I felt like the author gave an excellent story and a plot worth reading. And the the detail about the tiara... swoon-worthy!
This is the third book in the series and I loved it as much as the other two. It’s written well because I was involved with the story immediately. The characters are fun, adventurous and interesting. Whether you’ve read the other two in the series or if this is your first, I’m positive you’re going to enjoy it as much as I did.
When I got the email that I had access to this ARC, I got excited. I enjoyed the first two books in the series and was looking forward to the next.
That last unmarried Bow Street agent Bachelors and tri-owner of a gaming hell Sebastien Wolff, Earl of Mowbraywhich, has become lonelier due to his friends moving out of the gaming casino and into the arms of their wives (Book 1 and Book 2 of the series). The opening of the story, he was on the way to a night of fun but got sidetracked with an investigation of a dead Russian. His night was not going to be what it thought it was going to be.
Russian Princess Anastasia Denisova (Secretly-a-Princess trope but with good reason) has been hiding in London as a Secretary to a Dowager Countess and goes by Anna Brown. She spends her days being a secretary, and a few nights a week, she pops over to a brothel to help the girls learn essential skills so they can leave the business if they choose. However, this particular night, some male opens the door, see hers, and his willingness to pay her 500 pounds to sleep with him, thinking she worked at the brothel. Misunderstandings and bewilderment happen with a kiss, and then it was over. She knows who he is because he is the nephew of her employer, Sebastien Wolff, but he doesn't know her because their paths have never crossed.
Sebastien gets cranky about this woman that turned him down, and all of a sudden, he wants no one but her. She realizes that she is not safe anymore in London, because people are looking for her, like a very aggressive want to be fiancé. She attempts to leave the city, but kidnappers try to take her, and at the moment, Sebastien is riding upon his horse. He decides he is the only one to protect her and keep her safe, with the blessing of his Grandmother (I love her by the way).
Gaming Hells is becoming one of my favorite locations (looking at Joanna Shupe and Sarah MacLean) and men who are a bit crusty around the edges that dislike balls as much as I like reading about them. I want action, and I got action. I like a bit of mystery or intrigue in my romance because it helps with plot and character development and forces characters on the page to express feelings in situations that don't happen on standard regency romance with ballrooms and proper dukes.
It was a fun read that took only a few hours after downloading it to my Kindle.
Tropes: Secret Royalty, Mystery, Friends to Lovers, Kidnapping attempts
I received an ARC from Netgalley and St. Martin's for an honest review.
I like Seb! I’m so happy he got a princess.
Now that these three fellas are all taken, it’s a bit bittersweet. I had fun watching them fall one by one.
I look forward to the next set of characters from Kate.
The 3rd member of friends in the bow street members is Sebastian. The one who thought he would never marry falls head over hills for Anya (the princess). The banter and chemistry between them is wonderful. Their personality’s mix so well together. Great storyline and romance.
Kate Bateman is a great writer but UGH the deception storyline got old fast. So much angst over nothing! It didn't work for me unfortunately.
The Princess and the Rogue by Kate Bateman is an excellent historical fiction romance novel that is the third in the Bow Street Bachelors series.
I admit this is the first book I have read by this author, and I loved it so much, I already purchased the first two books. Each one centers around one of the three male friends that are all war heroes in their own right, fighting overseas for the English Crown, all return home with their own physical and mental scars and all end up working for the government on Bow Street. This book features Sebastian Wolff, Earl of Mowbray and his new acquaintance Princess Anastasia Denisova.
Seb meets “Anna Brown” (Anya under disguise as his great aunt’s companion) in England after she and her maid/friend Elizaveta have been hiding to avoid being found by the villainous fellow Russian and spy trying to find and dispose of her in attempt to avoid his own treasonous actions being brought to light. Seb ends up guarding Anya and annoyance, then friendship, then romance ensues.
This book has a wonderful, intricate, and interesting historical plot that kept me entertained throughout. I loved the concept, pacing, character cast, dialogue, time period and locations, and well everything about the book to be honest.
My favorite two things were the two main characters: Anya and Seb and the wonderful and perfect ending. They both had their own complicated and harrowing pasts, they had great personalities, were like able, realistic, and had great chemistry. I am so glad the book ended as it did. What more can one ask for?
This book has made me a huge fan of Ms. Bateman. I can’t wait to read the previous two books in this series I just purchased and future books as well.
Excellent 5/5 stars
Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for this ARC and in return I am submitting my unbiased and voluntary review and opinion.
I am posting this review to my GR and Bookbub accounts immediately and will post it to my Amazon and B&N accounts upon publication.
This was awesome! Honestly it feels like I’ve read something similar, but this was so great, fantastic characters, great story depth and I’m going back to read the others.
Anya Denisova, is a Russian Princess hiding from a Russian traitor who gave information to the French of Russian movements before Waterloo.
Sebastian Wolff is partners with two friends, owners of The Tricorn, a most popular gaming club and works as a Bow Street Runner. They meet in a brothel and nothing will be the same between them. Finding the traitor who caused Anya's brother's death and many others at Waterloo is their goal, but puts Anya's life in danger. Seb is up for the challenge. Anya is his. How this bachelor will fall! I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
Oh my goodness - I really really loved this book!
This book follows Anya, a Russian princess in hiding from dangerous people, and Sebastien, an owner of a gaming club who becomes her de facto protector. Anya and Sebastien are both wonderfully interesting characters to follow and it was such a delight to read their love story.
The pacing of this book was perfection. I never felt bored and there wasn't a lull in the plot as I wait for something to happen. This was a fast paced and romantic read with some twists and turns along the way. With elements of fairytale weaved through the story, this novel was a fun and delightful read.
This was my first Kate Bateman read, but it definitely won't be my last!
Highly recommended!
Anastasia Denisova is a Russian Princess who is living in London under a false name after her brother dies at Waterloo and a traitorous countryman tries to force her into marriage. Sebastien Wolff, Earl of Mowbray, serves his country: first as a soldier, now as an investigator for Bow Street. Sebastien doubts Anya’s identity, but becomes her protector when she is nearly kidnapped and seems to be connected to the case he is investigating.
This is the third book in the Bow Street Bachelors series. Except for a few references, it can be read alone…although book one and two are great as well and definitely worth the time! I loved this book and read it in one day. The characters were likable and interesting, the story well written and engaging. I enjoyed the build up of Anya and Seb’s relationship, and I thought the romance and investigative intrigue were well balanced and perfectly paced. Great banter, steam, and surprise throughout the book.
* I received an ARC and this is my honest review. #ThePrincessAndTheRogue #NetGalley
"The Princess and the Rogue" by Kate Bateman is a steamy romance that has it all! A beautiful princes Anastasia and a handsome Earl Sebastian and an a dangerous man after the beautiful princess. That dangerous man Vasili from Anastasia's home country of Russia aims to marry her to keep her from testifying against him for betraying their country to Napoleon after the death of Anastasia's brother Dimitri who was her protector.
Anastasia changes her name to plain old Anna Brown and escapes to London. She lives quietly with her maid Elizaveta and encounters Sebastian in a brothel where she teaches the women there to read and learn skills that will help them when they no longer can work in the brothels. Needless to say there are misunderstandings between the two main characters that lead for an entertaining read.
Kate Bateman brings us more twists and turns in this novel which I read through very quickly as it was engaging and I didn't want to put it down.
Thank you to NetGalley and St Martin's Press for the opportunity to read this ARC. The receipt of this ARC did not influence my review in any way.
I really enjoyed this book. I read the two previous books on the series, and this may have been my favorite. Great chemistry between the two lead characters, and I enjoyed the rest of the supporting characters. It was especially nice to see characters from the previous books return. A fun, light read was exactly what I needed, and this didn’t disappoint.
Ahhhhhhh this was just such a wonderful book and I just thoroughly enjoyed myself. I didn’t want to put this book down. I just fell in love with this wonderful story and it’s wonderful characters. I will most definitely be reading more stories from this wonderful author.
Anya is a Russian princess hiding in London after barely escaping with her life, now she's been found and is in danger. Bow Street agent Sebastien Wolff doesn't believe in love and isn't interested in marriage, so it should be easy to protect the beautiful "Anna Brown", his great aunt's companion, and not become invested. When her secrets are revealed, and he learns her life is in danger, he quickly realizes there's not much he won't do for her.
The Princess and the Rogue is a really great read, it has suspense, mystery, heat, good banter and side characters, and a twist at the end. I loved Anya and Seb, their banter was amazing, and my heart ached for both of them at different points in the story. The Dowager Dutchess, while a small part, was amazing, who doesn't love a scheming old lady. Once I started I couldn't put it down I had to know what was coming next, it was absolutely the perfect distraction for me to hide from the current state of the world. I have not read the previous two books in the series and I didn't feel too lost, but I will definitely be reading them soon, highly recommend!
Such a fun series. I really enjoyed this book. The character development and plot was interesting and well developed. I loved the friendship between the three men and how they worked to solve the mysteries. This was the first series I have read by this author and I will continue to read her books.
