I received this ARC in return for a review.
This book had lots of great tips and ideas for keeping your carbs down awhile still living your life.
This book had some good ideas and recipes but did not fully work for me since I decided to go vegan. I found some ideas/recipes that could work but changed them up to fit my lifestyle.
This book has so many easy to follow low carb/keto friendly recipes. Perfect for anyone looking to watch their carb intake.
I expected a lot more from this book. Firstly, there are barely any photos for the recipes, which I find to be a very important part of a cookbook as it gives information about how the food is supposed to look and therefore you'll know if you made it correctly. Also, I was disappointed in the specific brands the recipes call for as they aren't easily accessible to many people. It would be great to find low carb recipes made of basic ingredients rather than specialty ones. The recipes seem simple enough to do, but nothing that completely blew me away. I think this could be a great introduction to someone looking into a keto diet, but not a staple cookbook to have in your kitchen.
Ketogenic diets with low carbs are all the rage these days. This is a good cookbook for a midsize library collection to supplement other foundational keto diet books. Even if you're not on a keto diet, there are tasty looking recipes including bacon and egg cheese sandwiches, steak tips with gravy, and garlic-roasted mushrooms.
Some recipes include brand-name ingredients, which I find annoying. As far as I can tell, the author simply has a preference for certain brands, rather than the cookbook being sponsored by a corporation, but it feels like an advertisement anyway. Also, not enough pictures of the recipes. But the instructions seem easy to follow and each one has detailed nutrition information.
Great guide for getting into Keto! Recipes were nicely laid out, and used everyday ingredients. Easy to follow, and I'm excited to incorporate some of these meals into my everyday life.
**I received and voluntarily read an e-ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.**
This healthy cookbook succeeds where tons have failed before- there are absolutely tons of recipes to be found! It's a great book, especially for those just getting started with carb counting.
Stand out recipes include No-Bake Almond Butter Cookies, Lemon Pound Cake, Cheesy Ranch Cauliflower Bake, Philly Cheesesteak Bake, Four Cheese White Pizza, Buffalo Chicken Cobb Salad, and so many more that I'm tired of listing them!
5/5 for the amazing variety of recipes within this book.
A good basic primer for people who are starting on the keto diet. The recipes are easy, and provide a diverse selection of foods within the diet. Thoughtful presentation and good instructions that are not overly complicated.
This book has great recipes that are simple, easy to follow and has ingredients people following keto will definitely have, and a lot of the ingredients that people new to the keto diet will also have. Possibly the only drawback is the use of equipment that not everyone will have, such as an air fryer or mini waffle iron, however there are plenty of recipes that do not require any special equipment, making this book very worthwhile.
I love this cookbook filled with ideas and easy to follow recipes for low carb meals. I'm not particuarly looking for keto diet specifically, but instead, following a diabetes friendly lifestyle. Therefore, the low carb also applies to my needs. Sometimes I need easy, simple and nutritious meals and run out of ideas. I found some great ideas and inspirations in this book! Thank you for the opportunity to review this cookbook and I will consider purchasing it after its release to add to my collection.
EDIT: Reviews posted to Goodreads, Netgalley. Submitted to Amazon and Barnes and Noble.
Thank you NetGalley for an advanced copy of 200 under 20g Net Carbs.
Yah:
*Super short intro
*The directions seem easy to follow and not complicated.
*Easy to find nutritional facts
*Variety of recipes including vegetarian, fat bombs, and desserts
*Meal plans included in the back
Meh:
*Lack of photos- there's a few throughout each chapter. I want more photos!
*The recipes are a bit underwhelming and boring.
This cookbook would be great for someone learning to cook for the keto diet- I would have loved this years ago! I also think it would be a great resource for when I'm in a hurry and just want something quick and easy. I'll definitely be trying out some of the fat bomb recipes, as well as the sweets.
What a cool recipe book! I haven't really looked to into Keto before this cookbook and while the recipes seem awesome I know they wouldn't work for me. However I think this would be a great guide for someone new to the keto diet or who is able to eat that way.
Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for providing me with an arc for an honest review!
200 under 20g Net Carbs is a tutorial and recipe collection for keto compliant cooking by Lindsay Boyers. Due out 18th Aug 2020 Simon & Schuster on their Adams Media imprint, it's 256 pages and will be available in paperback and ebook formats.
The introduction covers the basics of the keto lifestyle/diet, including a basic primer on ketosis, macronutrients, tips, ingredients, tools, supplies, how-to. The following chapters include the recipes arranged roughly by category: breakfast, appetizers & snacks, soups & salads, poultry, beef pork & lamb, seafood, meatless dishes, sides, fat bombs, sweets & treats.
Ingredient measurements are supplied in American standard measurements only. There's a conversion chart for metric measures in the appendices. The nutritional information: fat, carbs, protein, fiber content, etc are listed for the recipes as well as serving sizes. Extra tips or recipe alternatives are listed in the recipes. The recipes themselves are fairly straightforward and are made for the most part with easily sourced ingredients (not all though, sweeteners for example, will likely need to be sourced from specialists). Many are very simple, none of them are overly complex. There are also some meal plans included for quick-start suggestions along with a list of pantry staples to keep on hand which are keto-friendly.
The photography is not abundant; most of the recipes are not illustrated, but the photographs which are included are clear and well done. I wish there had been more photographs and serving suggestions, but I do understand that extra photography increases the price of book projects very quickly and the lack is not crippling because this is a fairly simple (albeit massive) recipe collection.
This is a huge collection of recipes and even allowing for the fact that some of them are very similar to others in the same category, this will keep keto-cooks going for ages. Many of these can also easily be adapted to non-keto cooking.
Five stars.

200 under 20g Net Carbs is a great asset to anyone starting a low carb journey! There are a lot of simple recipes that are easy to incorporate in to a busy lifestyle. I have tried a few of the chaffle recipes and have a few others that are on my list to add into the dinner rotation. The only constructive feedback I have is that it may be helpful to lump all the chaffles together and list different variations. Also, chaffles can be made without almond flour and it may be helpful to mention that for individuals who have a tree but allergy (or who don't have almond flour on hand). Additionally, I like the suggestion of specific brands because it makes it easier to search in the store. However, some may feel that the recipes are unapproachable because of the "fancy" ingredients. It could be helpful to list the ingredients and then suggest a brand. For example, "4 slices no-sugar added bacon, I like Applegate Naturals No Sugar Bacon".
Very thorough book in its explanation of the Keto diet. Also the recipes are well done in the layout, photos, and description for each recipe. Appears to be easily adaptable to most diets, with only a few changes. Unfortunately, this does not fit in with a diabetic diet. Low carb recipes are a good idea but still too heavy on fats and processed foods (e.g. bacon). Yet I enthusiastically recommend this book for those looking for a healthier lifestyle.
I received an advanced reader copy from NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.
Wonderful recipe book. It was a comprehensive and easy to follow cook book. The layout was simple and to the point, I really liked the feature where you see exactly how much carbs you are consuming in each recipe. It makes a low carb diet seem so much more attainable. I'm looking forward to trying it out!
A few new recipes to try out. All recipes include nutrition facts. Some information about the keto diet is included at the beginning. There are a few meal plans included in the back. All in all, a good book.
So often when I flip through keto cookbooks at the bookstore, I find pretty much the same recipes again and again. So it was quite a pleasant surprise to open 200 Under 20g Net Carbs and not be face to face with yet another recipe for plain old cauliflower rice. This cookbook is arranged by meal, beginning with an extensive breakfast section. I was especially impressed with the comprehensive seafood chapter, including many varieties of fish, as well as scallops, crab, and shrimp. I’m excited to try several of the soup, salad, chicken, and beef recipes as well. There’s no excuse for getting into a boring food rut with this cookbook!
Thanks go to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
A great tool to help you with your low carb diet. Features great basic information and recipes to provide variety.,
The daily meal plans have been a life saver! So simple and easy to keep on track with a keto diet, lots of variety. The buffalo blue cheese chicken burgers were a huge hit in our house, even for those who aren't on a keto diet. I loved the soups because quite often they can be filled with carbs and I have previously avoided them but it was great being able to pick from a delicious, easy to make recipes!
Love being able to swap in meals or include some different side dishes, was super easy to understand all .the detailed nutrition stats.
An easy to navigate well thought out book that has become the go to in our house for delicious keto focused meals.
