I loved this book till I was 70% of the way done with it.
I will give the positives....the virus itself was a character all on its own. It was remarkable the description of how it was transmitted, how it wiped out the memory of people, and the actions that people took when they got the virus.
I loved that Jamie and Linda teamed up together to protect their infected daughters.
I like the scenery and the sense of urgency throughout the book, even though WEEKS would go by with no movement.
SPOILER ALERT>>>>>AVERT YOUR EYES NOW>>>>>
The bad...
At 70% of the way through the book the main character ONCE AGAIN gets kidnapped by right wing religious nuts?!
COME ON! Seriously! You could not think of a better ending then having Jamie and the girls get kidnapped AGAIN!
Then complaining throughout the book that he liked his daughter better when her mind was wiped....when given a choice to give his daughters the vaccine....he puts it to the daughters to decide and they decide to keep their thoughts wiped.
Of course they did. They are females who went against male authority. Of course the author decided that they should remain docile.
The ending felt brief and lackluster.
What a disappointment.
Overall, the story is there, until 70% of the way into it. The writing was great, the characters were pretty well developed....just the the last third of the book is crap.
Very topical! A gripping tale of a virus that sweeps the nation and a virologist who must get the cure. It’s scary and makes you realise COVID-19 isn’t as grim as it could be. But it also makes you think what’s next?! I read this in one sitting. 5/5.
The Cure, a thought provoking and utterly relevant read that has you on the edge of your seat, rapidly turning the pages to read more. Fantastic and original plot, that will have you hooked.
Unfortunately I finished this book at 50%. Although the synopsis and cover pulled my attention to this one. I really struggled to gel with this book.
I will not post a negative review as I think it is unfair on the author. I will try to revisit this book post pandemic
