A beautiful book with amazing characters
This is a good family drama
The book was well written and the pace was good
On a negative point the main character did annoy me at times
The Wife's Choice is an entertaining story about a woman in her forties who isn't happy with her life and gets a chance to reveal a secret and change her life circumstances. It may appeal to women who enjoy domestic dramas and happy endings.
I received a free digital review copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion. With thanks to the author, the publisher and Netgalley.
Another lovely book by Emma Davies. I was drawn into the characters right from the beginning and was rooting for Aly to have the happy ending she deserved. As always a book full of warm hearted characters that you can relate to making it hard to put down
A well written, albeit slightly predictable, domestic drama that deals with a hear-wrenching and emotional situation. There's several elements of the plot which are emotionally challenging, including a controlling relationship and the hardships accompanying disability, but everything is wrapped up into a happy ending. While it isn't the best book I've ever read, it's far from the worst, and is a nice enough read for those who enjoy domestic dramas.
Disclaimer - I was fortunate enough to be provided with an advance reading copy of this book by NetGalley. This has not affected my review in any way, and all opinions are my own.
Author Davies kept me turning pages as I read the emotional roller coster of Alys, a woman who's trying to navigate her past and present.
Thrown into chaos with the loss her job, the general absence of her husband, and now her adult daughter leaving, Alys world takes a hard turn as the choices she made long ago, come back to force her to make decisions she never planned to make.
Brew some coffee, because you're going to be up late reading this heartbreaking and beautiful story.
PS-I love the cover. It's gorgeous.

Beautiful written book. I can relate to the main character which broke me heart. As a mom, and wife I can understand her pain at times. I would say it was 8 out of 10 for me.
Alys is married to Hugh in a ho hum marriage, every day much like the last. Their daughter Esme has just secured her first post university position as a chef in a trendy new restaurant. Alys is thrilled for her daughter, but Hugh less so. But then there isn't much that thrills grumpy Hugh. He prefers his wife to be frumpy and boring and isn't thrilled when Alys starts stretching her wings. For Alys has made a new friend, and she is encouraging Alys to try to fulfill her goals and dreams that she gave up long ago.
Then someone re-enters Alys's life, someone she thought was gone for good. This turns everything upside down, and now she worries if hidden secrets will be discovered. Will Alys do the safe thing or will she reach for greater happiness?
This was the first book I had read by Emma Davies and I really enjoyed it. She made very real and fleshed out characters, she gave a leading lady I could root for, and an interesting story line to follow. Anyone who enjoys family drama, women's stories, and characters facing challenges will enjoy this book. Thank you to NetGalley, the author Emma Davies and her publisher for giving me a chance to read this ARC.
24 years ago Alys’ life was left in tatters after an horrific car crash left her husband fighting for his life.
After his recovery he left her and she found love with Hugh, who she is still married to today.
Into the present, their daughter, Esme, accepts a job at a new restaurant and the events that unfold have a deep impact on all their lives.
A well written novel, Emma Davies manages to capture that feeling in all of us about whether the decisions we made are the correct ones and the effects they have on our lives.
This is a book about friendships, families and those we love unequivocally- and about those we once loved and lost.
I’m sorry to say this book did not catch my attention at all. I found it boring and the characters quite dull as well.
This was an enjoyable novel that tells exactly how lies can affect your life ultimately. This was my first book from this author but will be checking into others.
I received a copy of this from Netgalley in exchange for fair and honest review.
This family drama book is a thrilling & intriguing read that I flew through. I’d highly recommend this book to anyone..
A wonderful book with an intriguing and captivating storyline.
The characters were realistic and faced real struggles, and the plot of the book was paced beautifully.
A lovely read.
This was an enjoyable easy read. Loved the characters and the journey they all went through. This was my first book by Emma Davies and will look definitely look at her others.
Thank you Bookotoure and Netgalley.
This book was okay. I struggled a bit to connect with the protagonist, Alys. I did like the secondary character Nancy. and how she embraces Alys from the first time they meet. A story of past love returning into her life, leading to surprising reveals that I found to be interesting.
Alys' first marriage ended in divorce after her husband divorced her after suffering a terrible accident. She remarried but her husband is very controlling. Her daughter is ready to move onto new challenges and highlights the problems in their lives.
I was totally drawn into the book and couldn't wait to read more. I loved the way that all elements blended together. It deals with heartbreak, romance, family and new starts. The cover is very striking and make it stand out, ready to be picked up and enjoyed.
I always love Emma Davies books and this one was a great read.
The Wife’s Choice by Emma Davies is an unputdownable family drama that is both heartbreaking and yet uplifting at the same time. Family and life choices are the roots of this fantastic story and in ways there are parts where almost anyone who reads it can relate in some aspect.
Twenty Five years ago, Alys’ first love was involved in a horrific accident which eventually led to their divorce. Now, Alys is married again to her husband, Hugh, and they have a daughter, recently graduated and about to start her first job. Alys still has not forgotten about the life she had in the past or the love she had and still has for her first husband. But, there are still secrets in Alys’ life. Secrets that are about to be revealed. Can Alys find the happiness she so desperately seeks?
I really loved the premise of this book and I kind of went in blindly not really knowing what to expect, but the story drew me in immediately. This is not a “hold you on the edge of your seat kind of read,” but the build up is nice and steady and this is where we learn about Aly’s life and the decisions she has made and what leads up to secrets being revealed. I couldn;t help but relate a little bit to Alys as we are not too far off in age. Thinking about the past and things we could have done differently I think about often. I think Alys finally realizes how her decisions have shaped her life and with her marriage to Hugh. Hugh is definitely not an easy character to read about and quite frankly I hated him throughout most of the book, but eventually he is one of the reasons Alys finally comes into her own.
If you enjoy stories centered around family, relationships, feeling comfortable in your own skin, and having hopes and dreams then you definitely do not want to miss out on The Wife’s Choice.
Circumstances have conspired to place Alys in a place and time where she feels her life is just marking time until she dies. She has no job, no children at home and a husband whose actions leave no doubt as to who he feels is important. The only bright spot in her life is her daughter Esme, who has begun a new job in a new, exciting restaurant where Esme hopes to become a master chef some day. As Alys watches Esme's life take off, hers seems to be shrinking. With nothing better to do, she starts expanding her circle of acquaintances and designs clothing on a part time basis. These connections will bring Alys full circle to her younger self and force her to make decisions that could alter her future for the good.
This was a great thriller read from a new author for me. Interesting characters, who were well written and whom I got very interested in from the bat. It is also nice to read about a woman in her 40's instead of just reading about 20 somethings all of the time. I will definitely look forward to more by Emma Davies in the future.
After her husband car accident Alys find herself locked into a life which she would have never chosen. But a glimpse of her past life push her to finally fight for her true self.
Alys’ Story is so empowering and inspiring. So many times in life we just set for what’s easier or for what other people makes us believe is right for us, but is it really what we want?
This book makes you question your own persona while Alys herself finds her way through her true self, and set her mind on what really makes her happy!
And who doesn’t love whirlwind romance?
Really enjoyed this book, had a great storyline with some great charecters you could invest in, kept me engaged until the end
