Fun book, if a little slow-paced at times, with anthropomorphic penguins. Kids will enjoy the mix of real-life kid scenarios with the action of a spy adventure, and the penguin-themed puns (icePhones, etc.)
The tale of Jackson and Quigley and the high jinx they get up to when they are supposed to be egg sitting. These want to be FBI (Frosty Bureau of investigation) agents attempt to take on the task to find a missing fugitive, but are given Jackson’s sibling egg to watch and compete in the Golden Egg Games. Can they fight crime, egg sit and compete in the Games all at the same time?
Sam Hay writes a funny story about these two friends who want to join the FBI and keep their town safe. While losing the egg during the competition helps to solve the case, it takes the two crime fighters a while to realize that they are running into the fugitive multiple times. There are a few instances where Hay hints at who the culprit is, the boys ignore the signs.
The illustrations make a great addition to the book in showing the funny moments like riding a mechanical woolly mammoth or the egg bouncing away. The story does help the adventure along and while there are some moments when you want to say “that’s the bad guy”, it is a great quick read.
Thank you to Netgalley and Feiwel & Friends for the opportunity to read and review this book.
In this third Spy Penguins adventure, Jackson and Quigley are still trying to prove themselves worth of joining the FBI (Frost Bureau of Investigation). Lots of adventure, action, and humor in these illustrated chapter books. The black-and-white illustrations are by Marek Jagucki, who illustrated the popular My Big Fat Zombie Goldfish and My FANGtastically Evil Vampire Pet series.
