This is the first book in the US Marshals series, so it is the perfect place to start. If you enjoy action packed, suspenseful type books with a dash of romance you will love this one. (Spoiler Alert)....There is a bit of a cliff hanger in this book, which leads you to wait excitedly for book two. So if you like everything all tied together in a book you may need to wait till the series is all complete to start. However I would suggest reading it. This would make a great movie. I loved both US Marshals Madison James and Jonas Quinn. Their chemistry is great. Lisa Harris does a great job developing her characters and keeping you on the edge of your seat. I look forward to reading more in this series.
I was given a copy of this book for my honest opinion.
Super book! I've always appreciated Lisa Harris' books and this one was no exception!
Thanks to NetGalley for a free ebook in exchange for an honest review.

This is the first book in the US Marshalls series by Lisa Harris.
This story features US Marshalls Madison James and Jonas Quinn. They have known each other from their early training days but haven’t interacted much with each other since. Madison is on the verge of moving away when called to transport two prisoners to their hearings. When the plane crashes, they are pitted against a clever killer who has a lot of associates he has conned to believe in his innocence. The chase is on!
I think my favorite parts of this were the ones with Madison and Jonas when they were vulnerable and asking God for His assistance in their circumstances.
This was a fun mystery to follow. The next book also features these two same characters. Can’t wait to see what unfolds next in THE CHASE coming in 2021!
If you love a good romantic suspense, Christian fiction, mystery, definitely check this one out.
I received this as an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) in return for an honest review. I thank NetGalley, the publisher and the author for allowing me to read this title.
I loved every part of this stay up late, can’t put it down winner.
A plane crash, a manhunt, a mysterious black rose—from Seattle across the western United States to Texas and beyond, the action never stops in this heart pumping thrill ride.
Madison and Jonas must use their finely honed skills to catch a escaped killer. For both this case is too close to home, pricking at past tragedy in each of their lives.
Will they be able to navigate their personal issues, catch the fugitive, and walk out their budding attraction?
I recommend this book to suspense lovers everywhere.
I received an advance copy courtesy of Baker Publishing Group through NetGalley and this is my honest review.
This book is a total page-turner, non-stop action, and riveting!
There is so much action in this read, you will hardly have time to breath, and then when you do something else happens!
I have read many books by this author, and they have all been great reads, and this one sure didn't disappoint.
I now know that this is a series, but I was left without answers at the end, and can't wait now for the next book to come out!
If you love good clean suspense, I highly recommend!
I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Revell and was not required to give a positive review.
A non-stop thriller suspense that successfully hits the ground running…literally.
You get just enough of a taste and feel for the two main characters to be drawn in by them before the action takes off. Madison is a tough gal still dealing the the life-altering loss of her husband, while thoroughly devoted to her family and trying to juggle those daily challenges that come her way. Her partner, Jonas, has a calm and stabilizing effect to each scene.
These two do make sometimes eye-roll ‘really??’ kind of unbelievable rookie mistakes for their profession—especially at the start of the book. But the author keeps the pace moving without lingering on those mistakes and the characters do make up for those failures each time, showing that they are resourceful and determined.
As I mentioned, Madison is tough, but this doesn’t take away from her flawed-human aspect and she can be vulnerable. Well-practiced in keeping her guard up, however, it takes some time (realistically!) for her to allow Jonas to get past that barrier to any degree. Jonas is neither hard nor soft on her, and treats her as any other partner he might have been assigned. With respect and consideration. I liked him a lot for that! This balance and give-and-take between these two characters was refreshing.
There is only subtle romance aspects in this book, which I again appreciate for its refreshing realistic-ness (I know, that’s not a word) While a growing attraction is mentioned here and there, it does not rush nor detract from the suspense and professional theme of the story. I also love the sister relationship present at the beginning and end of the book between Madison and Danielle—which shows that family bond as well.
This is a Lisa Harris book I would definitely recommend to lovers of Christian-based (not overloaded or preachy) suspense and mystery thrillers.
I received a complimentary ARC from the publishers through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
The Escape is a great start to the US Marshals series. As it starts, it is the anniversary of the murder of the husband of US Marshal Madison James. Someone has been leaving a black rose on his grave but this year someone leaves a black rose on her bed. Before she has too much time to think about it she is assigned to transport two prisoners from Seattle, her home office, to Denver. On the same assignment, US Marshal Jonas Quinn, newly operating from the Seattle office, is making the trip. Quinn trained Madison when she was first in the Marshals service so they are acquaintances. The unthinkable happen when the small plane goes down over Idaho, killing the two pilots and one of the prisoners while the marshals survive and one prisoner escapes. The two marshals along with other law enforcement officers chase the prisoner across three western states and eventually to Texas. What a slippery person he turns out to be, charming women from the past to help him, taking hostages and advantage of anyone he can bringing danger and harm in his path.
Madison is still dealing with her husband's death and Jonas has his own demons to deal with but the two connect on a level that they hadn't with others as they fight their way to bring the prisoner in and stop his escapade. Action packed with danger, twists, turns and likable, realistic characters, and faith, I highly recommend this entertaining read. There is a little cliffhanger at the end as the mystery of Madison's husband's murder is still unsolved.
I received a complimentary ARC from Revell Publishing through NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are mine only.
US Marshals Madison James & Jonas Quinn were about to take on their next assignment, transporting 2 prisoners from one prison to another. But when the plane experienced engine trouble and crashed into the Salmon-Challis National Forest they had no idea how bad things were about to get. Once Madison and Jonas awoke and realized that they had in fact crashed, they freed themselves from the part of the plane they were still in and began checking themselves and one another for injuries & then gathered what they could from the plane, they then were hit with the fact that the pilot and one prisoner were dead. That meant that their transport just became a manhunt. Jonas and Madison knew one another from a few years ago when she took one of his classes. He thought she was a very good student who had a long career ahead of her. Madison considered his class some of the best training she received and that it prepared her to become a Marshall. While working to track down their prisoner they began realizing that they liked one another but neither was sure whether they wanted to change their relationship. But God may have a different plan. Thank you Ms. Harris for allowing me to participate as an early reader. I loved this story and look forward to the next one.
This is one big rush from beginning to end. U.S. Marshals Madison James and Jonas Quinn are part of a prisoner transport when their plane goes down. The plane breaks in half and they realize that one prisoner is on the run. He’s extremely dangerous and has nothing to lose.
I thoroughly enjoyed the chase. It was interesting seeing other people come in and out of the story, like an autistic young man, as the hunt went on. It’s fascinating seeing how the Marshals go about trying to get into the fugitive’s mind and figuring out his next steps.
I really like both Madison and Jonas. I’m glad they’ll be the focus in the next book as well. There’s a dangling unknown that sets up the next book nicely. I can’t wait to read more. I’m excited about this new series.
Thank you to Revell for providing me with a free e-copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
Madison and a new partner, Jonas Quinn, are paired up to transport prisoners to another state. Damon Barrick is the one that got away. The book starts off telling us about the murder of Madison’s husband 5 years earlier and the 5 year anniversary date is when she heads off on the transport. Both are seasoned Marshals and are both stretched to the limits throughout this fast paced, high adventure hunt. The story takes place in parts of Washington, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado and Texas. The two main characters are well developed and likeable. We also meet Madison’s Dad, her sister Danielle, both of their bosses, Mr. Michaels and a few others as the story unfolds. Page turning story with lots of action make this book hard to put down.
A complimentary copy of this book was provided by Revell via NetGalley. A review was not required and all thoughts and opinions are my own.
US Marshal Madison James and her partner Jonas Quinn are sent to bring a prisoner back via plane. The plane crashes in a remote area and the only survivors are the marshalls and the prisoner. It becomes a nightmare full of injuries, cat and mouse with the prisoner as they try to recapture him and complete their mission, and finding their way out of the wilderness on foot.
This story was a nail biter and I think I plowed through it in record time. I couldn't put it down. I really enjoyed this story and will continue to look for books by this author.
I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from NetGalley. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
Wow! The Escape by Lisa Harris grabs you from the first chapter and doesn’t let you go until the very last page. It has a very well-written storyline, great characters and moves at a steady pace. US Marshals Madison and Jonas battle a plane crash, nature and, of course, fugitives in the first book of this exciting new series. If you enjoy Christian Suspense, you don’t want to pass this one up.
I received a copy of this book to review, but the review itself is based on my own opinion and views.
This first book in LIsa Harris’s new U.S. Marshals series will definitely leave you wanting more. As U.S. Marshals Madison James and Jonas Quinn race across the states in the Pacific Northwest in search of an escaped felon, my heart raced right along with them. Each time that they thought they had Barrick in a trap, I cheered, only to sigh with resignation when he escaped again. He was one smart prisoner! But Madison and Jonas were ready for his wily ways and they gave me chills with how perceptive and clever they were in their pursuit of the escaped killer. I was delighted that I learned so much about the U.S. Marshals and that I could actually picture the beautiful forest land that they were trapped in, attempting to find the felon who was like the Road Runner in the cartoons, always one step ahead of them. The author did an outstanding job of describing the setting! Fans of romantic suspense will really love this action adventure story!

Wow! What a FANTASTIC book! As you read the story of US Marshalls Madison and Jonas, the storyline will keep you glued to your seat and thoroughly engaged in the mystery. Lisa Harris does an excellent job of combining believable suspense with real-life emotions and romance. GREAT book!
1) why does it have to end in a cliffhanger? I mean I want to know right now what comes next so book two in this series needs to be out now please and thank you.
2) I love the characters! Both have had things happen in the past that have shaped them and maybe jaded them a bit.
3) US Marshals and an escaped convict. Why yes that makes for quite the suspenseful read! I loved the twists and turns and how he manages to stay one step ahead of them for most of the book!
4) Love that something is included at the end of the book like Alzheimer's. This adds another dimension to the book and another piece that I can't wait to see how it moves forward in book two.
5) An amazing author who is going to keep you riveted to the book. I could not put it down.
6) I love Madison's family. Her sister and father are key players in the book.
Okay, now that I've listed some of the key things let's chat about how the two main characters are escorting two prisoners and their plane crashes. One prisoner is killed on impact and the other takes this as his last chance for freedom. He has nothing to lose.
This is an amazing book and I really cannot wait for the next book in the series. I mean, there's a short teaser at the end for book two and we're talking gunshot wound and a killer and unresolved stuff that I need resolves ASAP!!

The Escape is a book that I would highly recommend. The book was written by Lisa Harris and it is another excellent book by her.
The author creates very believable scenarios of almost nail-biting drama. Her characters of Madison James and Jonas Quinn are US Marshals based in the Seattle area. This is the first time they have done a case together, but they have known each other from previous class training time. Their assignment is to transport two prisoners to Denver via private airplane with only the pilot and co-pilot as other people on board. Weather moves in and the plane develops problems causing it to do an emergency crash landing in a remote national forest in Idaho. Both pilots and one prisoner do not survive the initial crash and the other prisoner escapes while both Madison and Jonas are unconscious.
These US Marshals must track this prisoner down as part of their job and this prisoner does not want to be found. Using both mental and physical means to find the prisoner, Madison and Jonas find that the prisoner is playing a few games with them to further his own escape plan. The author incorporates the remoteness of Idaho and portrays a wonderful picture of the land and its people who add further drama to the search through Wyoming and Colorado.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and can’t wait to read more from this author.
I was given a free copy of this book for review by Net Galley and the opinion is my own. #The Escape #LisaHarris #NetGalley
Madison James and Jonas Quinn, both US Marshals, are assigned to transport two dangerous criminals by plane to a new destination. After the plane crashes, Madison and Jonas must track an escaped murderer in the wilderness and beyond to try and keep him from killing anyone else. At the same time, Madison still doesn't know who killed her late husband. However, clues have been turning up.
This is a fast paced, action-packed Christian thriller with many twists and turns. It was hard to put down and I stayed on the edge of my seat. There are interesting and surprising developments, and the characters are very well written, especially the "villain." There is a hint of romance and a gentle Christian message of the hope God can provide in dark times. It is the first book in the U.S. Marshals series by Lisa Harris, and I can't wait to read the rest.
I received a free copy of this book from Revell via Netgalley. My review is voluntary.
THE ESCAPE by Lisa Harris is the first book in the US Marshall series. It is a Christian action adventure suspense novel that moves quickly between the states of Washington, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado and Texas. Two US Marshalls are assigned to a prisoner transport from Seattle to Denver when their plane crashes. What follows is a week of non-stop suspense, stress, and action.
Madison James and Jonas Quinn are the protagonists in this novel. Both are US Marshalls and the point of view switches seamlessly back and forth between them. They are easy to like and root for, and were credible and relatable. The author does a good job of giving them depth including flaws and virtues. While Madison was a strong protagonist in a lot of ways, there were occasions when I felt she should have been portrayed more strongly and less in need of help. The secondary characters are not as well-developed in this first novel, but they enhanced the story. Hopefully, some of them will get more depth in the next book in the series. The world-building was great and ranged from rugged and remote backcountry to busy airports. The internal and external conflicts were well defined and were organic and believable; arising out of characterization and circumstance rather than feeling forced or contrived.
I also learned about the US Marshall Service and their fugitive investigations and how they work with other law enforcement agencies. The author weaved this into the story line without detracting from the flow and action.
Overall, this was an action-packed and entertaining novel with the hint of a future romance that kept me fully engaged. The story was compelling and a great start to a new series. I highly recommend this to those that enjoy action-packed suspense stories. The expected publication date is November 3, 2020. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
Revell and Lisa Harris provided a complimentary digital ARC of this novel via NetGalley. This is my honest review. Opinions are mine alone and are not biased in any way.
The Escape by Lisa Harris starts out reminding me of Con-Air, a plane full of criminals and something goes wrong. While Harris' story does not go as realistic and vivid as Con-Air the movie does, it still captures my attention as I am chasing through the woods of Idaho to Colorado to chase after an escaped criminal. There is a hint of romance, but it definitely is not the most important element of the story, which I truly enjoyed by the way. The suspense is what drives the stories. Every time the hero and heroine get close to capturing the criminal, he throws a loop in their carefully laid out plans and runs for the hills. Some of the movements by the police officers were predictable. I believe fans of suspense novels will have seen them coming. They have been done before. Even with this, I still enjoyed the story. The heroine's name is mentioned in the next one, so I can't wait to see what other trouble that Harris allows these characters to dive into.
I received a complimentary copy of The Escape by Lisa Harris by Revell Publishing, but the opinions stated are all my own.
'Sometimes the darkness seems so much stronger than the light....But God is so much bigger than the darkness.'
I had never read this author before, but the book's cover and synopsis convinced me to give it a read. It was a really good book. I love a good suspense novel and this one fit the bill admirably. Two US Marshals are on a plane escorting two prisoners when the plane crashes, leaving only the marshals and one prisoner alive. And he has escaped. From then on, the action never lets up. This prisoner was an especially bad dude, too.
I was completely fascinated by the office of the US Marshals. The authors goes into detail about their roles and I was so interested that I looked them up on my own. I learned a lot and so glad I read this book. Be warned: there are more in this series to come and the reader will see this at the end. I am eagerly awaiting the next one in the series. I do recommend this book.
