News Division is an interesting book. Instead of a newsperson reporting this is from a cameraperson point of view. After all his travels and experiences around the world, I found his take on how the news being reported now compared to the past meaningful and insightful.
As a news junkie myself, I was very interested in the perspective and experience of someone who worked for the news media his whole life. I found in this book many engaging stories, but it really should have been more heavily edited.
There are three themes here: a memoir about the author's personal life, accounts of his work in various assignments all around the world, and reflections on the current state of the news media. I wish I could be spared the first part - descriptions of his encounters with sexy and smart women were like taken straight out of some cheap romance novel. The parts devoted to his professional experience were mostly worth reading, but they would also benefit from some more thorough editing. Surprisingly, his analysis of the changing approach to the news was very insightful and interesting, and this was the part that I liked the most.
Thanks to the publisher, Incorgnito Publishing Press, and NetGalley for the advance copy of this book.
I'm sorry to say that I just did not like this book. It failed to keep me interested. I don't like to penalize authors with a bad review, so I will not be posting any review to any of my sites. It just was not for me. Best of luck to the author. I hope that other readers find the book more interesting than I did.
