Another dual time line book that always switched to the other time line at a key moment so you are left hanging for a few chapters.
Excellent book about Princess Diana and Wallis Simpson. I learned a lot of reading this book. It is an enjoyable read especially if you like the Rpyal Family
I loved this book.. Tells the stories of two women who were thorns in the side of the British monarchy, I did not know a lot about Wallis Simpson and although I remember well the death of Princess Diana , I enjoyed the linking of the past and present in the making of a documentary. Of course, this is a work of fiction and certain things have been added, it is still a great read.
I am looking forward to reading the book about Jacky and Maria!
Loved the book. Well written. Like the characters very much. Would highly recommend it. Keep my interest especially at this COVID time.
This was a wonderful book that gave you great insight into the lives of Wallis and her friend Mary. Switching between time lines gave you the question of how it all tied in together which it did wonderfully. Was great to see what was an actual quote from the people as well
I loved this book! I fell in love with characters from both eras and now want to read more about Wallis and Mary.
Gill did a wonderful job with keeping me guessing about how the characters got together and I loved the character development.
There were a lot supporting characters and at times I had a little trouble remembering who they were.
Overall great book and worth the read.
Thank you netgalley for the book for an honest opinion.
Another woman's Husband By Gill Paul. There are to story's going on at the same time and then come together.
Please note, this book was not provided with the intention of advance review. It was part of a Facebook promotional giveaway to anyone that requested it and the delivery method was NetGalley. It is 2020, and this book was released in 2017. That being said, I am a huge Royal buff and I love historical fiction, so this was a good book for me. I love books that take alternate between different timelines and interesting to see the parallels between Princess Diana’s time and Wallis’ time. Great book! Thank you Book Club Girls Facebook group for the free copy.
A very engaging work of historical fiction! I equally enjoyed both storylines and enjoyed learning more about Princess Diana's death as I was very young when it happened and don't remember hearing about the conspiracy theories. I thought the author did a nice job of showing the parallels between Wallis and Diana and tying the two stories together. Not only was the book entertaining, but I also learned new details about the British Monarchy and feel compelled to research these two unconventional women more.
Another Women's Husband is an engrossing historical fiction linking the stories of two women. One story line takes place in 1997 after the death of Princess Dianna. Rachel and her fiance Alex witness the car crash in Paris. Their story centers around their up coming wedding, the vintage clothing store Rachel owns and Alex's documentary about the Dianna's death. They discover connections to Wallis Simpson. The other story takes place in the 40's starting with the friendship between Mary Kirt and Wallis Simpson. Mary's story is of heartbreaks, affairs, scandals, and the demands of the British Crown on Wallis. Both women were Mrs. Simpson. Wallis was wife number 2 and Mary wife number 3.
Thanks to Net Galley for the opportunity to read this book
This was an interesting story that juxtaposed two plotlines, one about the death of Princess Diana and the other about Wallis Simpson, Mary Wallace, and Prince Edward. The transitions between the two story lines was very well handled. The book was engrossing and left me interested in finding out more about the people involved so i could determine how much was fact and how much was ficition.
This book was really interesting! I want to look everybody up and see how much of the book is fact versus fiction.
Gill Paul did a great job on this historical fiction novel with dual timelines. As a long-time admirer of Princess Diana, I really enjoyed this book. Thank you to BookClubGirls and NetGalley for this digital copy.
I love to read about history, even if it is historical fiction. I love the way the author transitioned from past to 1997. It was fascinating and kept me wanting to read more.
I received an electronic copy as part of the Book Club Girls Free Book Friday.
I think this book is well written, but I had difficulty connecting with the characters. However, the plot is fascinating!
Another Woman's Husband by Gill Paul was one I couldn't put down. Ultimately, to me, it was a book about lifelong friendship - the good, the bad and the ugly. So many times we do something, or omit to do or say something that changes that friendship forever. Can we put aside the wrong that has been done in time to make amends? Do we want to? These are the things I thought of when I read this book. Another reason I'm giving this book a five star review is that it made me want to get to know more about these two real life women.
This story begins with the crash that tragically ended Princess Di’s life and also follows several lives in the 1930’s. Loved the author’s descriptive writing and how the two stories became intertwined. A great read!
I am not a fan of historical novels but this one was skillfully interwoven with a duel storyline about Wallis Simpson, Mary Wallace, and Princess Diana. I didn't care for either Mary or Wallis so I found it hard to stay interested in their story. I was much more interested in Princess Diana and her friend Susie.
This is the story of two women, Wallis Simpson, and Princess Diana, two commoners who married into the Royal Family of Great Britain. The life of Wallis Simpson fascinated me. Wallis’ story is told through the eyes of her best friend, whom she has known since their private school days. Her insecurities and selfishness drive her to use people, particularly men, to achieve money and fame. The somewhat parallel story of a couple who witness the death of Princess Diana is not as captivating. The couple has career and personal issues that are heightened by their reaction to her death. When the connection between Princess Diana and Wallis Simpson is slowly revealed, the reader is rewarded with a delightful surprise.
Another Woman's Husband is a fascinating historical fiction story based on the drama between Prince Edward's abdication of the throne and his relationship with Wallis Simpson, as well as the death of Princess Diana, told through the eyes of Wallis's friend Mary Kirk and a young lady who was a witness at the car crash that caused Princess Diana's death. This story was a slow build for me but in the last half of the book I couldn't put it down, there were so many questions which I really wanted to know the answers to, the characters were really interesting and well developed, and it was a great way to learn about history as well. I enjoyed reading the Insights, Interviews and More section at the end as much as the story itself, as it left me wanting to know more about all of the characters and this section helped answer some of my questions about how the story continued, as well as who was real vs fictional and how the author came up with this idea and wrote the book. After finishing this story I can't wait to read more of Gill Paul's books!
If Gill Paul's intent was to make the reader hate Wallis Simpson, she succeeded with me! Before reading this book I was familiar with the general history of Simpson and Edward, but was pretty ambivalent about her as a person - even though I knew that she was generally reviled by the British. Paul does her no favors in this book, showing her through the eyes of her girlhood friend Mary Kirk as someone who was never satisfied, coveted status and financial security, pursued men to prove she could make them love her - and willing to stab anyone in the back she felt betrayed her or had something she desired. She comes across as someone who was perpetually unhappy and didn't have close friends because she didn't really know what it meant to truly care for someone without any strings attached. This part of the story is intertwined with the story of Rachel and her fiance, Alex, in 1997. The pair are celebrating their engagement when it's cut abruptly short by the car accident that killed Princess Diana. Alex decides that being at the accident is a sign of destiny that he's supposed to tell the story of her death, while Rachel copes with trying to rebuild her store after a break-in and deal with Alex's increasingly obsessive and dismissive behavior. As I still remember when Diana died and the aftermath of it, it definitely felt uncomfortable reading that part of the story. It ties in well with the older timeline, but in a way it still feels like it's too soon to write about in a fictionalized story, though the author does a good job of not assigning feelings or characteristics to Diana and instead focusing more on the way the public coped with her death. I also felt like the resolution of Rachel and Alex's relationship was abrupt and off-putting. It kind of felt like there was a rush to wrap it up because the rest of the story was coming to an end. All in all, it was a great story that definitely left me with some strong emotions towards some of the characters!
