I really enjoyed Alex North’s atmospheric thriller “The Whisper Man,” and I can tell from these first few chapters of his follow up,“The Shadows,” that I’m in for another creepy tale. It was so creepy, in fact, that I had to give up my plan of reading in bed late into the night, and wait to finish this sample until the morning. When I did, I was hooked. Looking forward to reading the rest!

Thanks to NetGalley and Celadon Books for providing me with this sample in return for my honest review.

I read the sample of the prologue as well as the first chapter; both of which were good. I'm curious as to how the prologue was in first person and the first chapter in third. I'll possibly pick this book up in the future when time has past and I can get it from the library.

Ooh so many questions to be answered. I really enjoyed The Whisper Man and had my fingers crossed that this sampler would show signs of being equally good. Fellow readers? It does! It literally sent shivers up my spine. Can't wait to read it.

Fantastic creepy start! I throughly enjoyed this chapter sampler. I loved “The Whisper Man” and was very happy to get the sampler of this book, and I was not disappointed. Excellent first few chapters, can’t wait to read the whole book.

This is a book that I have seen lately on BookTube and I love a good Horror and Thriller book, so I went into this book, not only excited, but with so much anticipation. This is my first Alex North read, not having read The Whisper Man, but oh how this book hooked me! This was my shortest one so far, but oh how I want more!!! The amount of mystery that is throughout this entire sampler/chapter, is so well done and makes me need to continue reading this book and uncover what's happened. The layout and this whole idea, isn't new to thriller reads, but it is one that I have taken a liking to lately, and gave me the feeling of The Chalk Man, which I really enjoyed. From the prologue and the first chapter, I would definitely buy and read this book, even though I am guessing it's going to do a split timeline, past and present. The writing was great and kept me not only interested but fully intrigued but engaged the entire time.

Fantastic read! Alex North hooks you from the very first paragraph! Cannot wait to read the full book in 2 days time

Sadly, this was only an ARC excerpt, not the entire book. This was still definitely enough to make me want to finish the whole book! So far, very creepy happenings with the boy and if this one is anywhere NEAR as good as The Whisper Man, I won't be disappointed!

It took me all of two sentences to know I was completely engaged with this book. My only regret is that this is only a sampler and not the entire book, which I soon plan to remedy.

Thank you to Net Galley and the publisher. I will gladly give a review when I receive a copy of the full book to review. So far it's great but I cannot give an honest review on a sample of a book.

I listened to THE WHISPER MAN when it released last year. I have to preface this sample review by saying, I am NOT a detective story fan. I'm not sure why, but stories with cops and detectives trying to find a killer just doesn't scratch my thriller itch like it does when a regular civilian is thrown into the mix. With that said, Alex North is an incredibly talented writer, and I'm sure this story will leave you with chills. From the couple chapters I read in this sample, I already want to know who Charlie is and what secrets are hiding in these pages.

Wow. I usually hate chapter samplers because I’m too impatient to keep reading the book. And, well, this one didn’t change my mind on that. BUT. It did get me even more excited than I already was for The Shadows. First of all, I didn’t realize the setting??? Is it supposed to be a secret?! I had NO IDEA and finding that out is now the number one thing that has my hyped for this book. It’s a very short chapter sampler, but man does it pack a punch. I can’t wait to finish the book!

Could not get enough from just the sampler. Perhaps it is a good book. Not sure yet on whether I will read the full book when it comes out.

The sampler did the trick! I can't wait to read the entire thing. I not usually a fan of this genre, but Alex North may make a convert of me yet.

From this small snippet of the book, I am absolutely hooked! The descriptions were so vivid and eerie, and I am dying to see where the story leads. I’m very excited to read the rest of it when it is released.
Thank you to Netgalley and Celadon Books for this preview chapter!

From the brief glimpse of the first chapter, it was mysterious and eerie. Of course, I would have liked a bit more of the synopsis to include a bit of the '25 years later' events in the preview for more of that fleshed out mystery and maybe character convergence, as this chapter only introduces us to Detective Amanda Beck before any interaction with the boy (or his adult self), but I can't complain! From what I can glean from the prologue with the boy, there is something really spooky about the whole situation with the boy..and possibly the boy's mother.

Seems like a promising spooky police procedural! Difficult to tell for sure. I would say the pages didn't exactly grab me.

Thank you Netgalley, Alex North and the publisher for this free chapter sampler.

The prologue and first chapter really sucked me in. I really wish I had the full book. I added it to my TBR and can't wait until the book is released, so I can read the rest. I read The Whsipering Man recently and really enjoyed it. I didn't realize this was the same author until I added it to Goodreads.

The Prologue is about a boy that is going to the police station. Chapter one skips to present day to Detective Amanda Beck. Her father was a cop and she visits his grave. She gets a phone call and has to go to a crime scene. There is a dead teenage boy at a quarry. He is covered in blood and there are bloody handprints on the stones around him. I'm excited to see how it ends.

Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for providing this chapter sampler in exchange for an honest review.

Wow that was really intense. A part of me wants to keep reading, but it's only a sample! (cries) I love the mystery aspect we started off with in the prologue. I want to know more about his story and what happened to him. And then chapter one blew me away - this seems like a spooky, haunting murder mystery and I want to know more. Alex leads us towards the dark, shaded path with only a few emeralds of light leading the way as we try to figure out what is going on. It makes this story seem so intriguing and I keep saying it - BUT I WANT MORE.

The more I explore Mystery/Thriller, I more I hear praise for "The Whisper Man" and how readers are excited to read "The Shadows" next.

Luckily, I have just started with NetGalley and opted for The Shadows Sampler. Now that I have read the sampler, I am wondering how would I be able to sleep at night without getting to read the entire story?
It gives me chills now that I imagine the story.
I loved the Prologue and the writing for that is the first thing that strikes me and I am so looking forward to reading the entire book without wanting to wait too long 

This sampler definitely did a good job at pulling me into the story. I want to know how the prologue and the murder in the first chapter are connected and I am interested in learning more about Amanda's back story.

Thrillers from the detective's perspective are normally not my favorite, but I think I will like this one. I am very excited to buy the full length novel when it is released and will definitely be reading in in July!

Now that I’ve read a sample, I cannot wait to pick this one up! I loved The Whisper Man and I have a feeling this will be the perfect summer mystery/thriller.
