I gave up at about 20%, the formatting made this very difficult to follow on the Kindle app on my iPad. The bits I could understand were basic and felt like they were aimed at children.
Doodle It All is a tutorial guide to doodling a multitude of fun small drawings. Originally published in Japanese in 2016, this English language translation, due out 1st Sept 2020 from Zakka Workshop is 128 pages and will be available in paperback format.
The book starts with a general tips & tricks introduction showing tools and supplies and how to use them followed by chapters building up different items (animals, people, food, flowers & plants, household items, hobbies, etc etc), adding decorations and background patterns, and composition. The bulk of the book is pages and pages and pages of very simple line drawings which -anyone- can do.
One of the most brilliant aspects of this book is in showing the would be doodler how to combine and build on simple elements to produce a deceptively simple cohesive piece of art which looks very complex. I've been using doodling as an awareness/mindfulness exercise and it really does work. These are cute and good fun.
This would make a really fun rainy day activity for younger kids to, well, adult age. They're appealing and whimsical and sweet. This would also be a great resource book for anyone wanting to up their drawing-with-young-kids game.
Four stars
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.
I have only really skipped through this book as it's a book that I will refer to many many times for the fantastic ideas.
I cannot draw at all, but I followed a couple of these instructions and yes, they did help!
I am really pleased. I do need to have more goes and then I will work up to harder ones.
Thank you
I retained this book from read now and I wasn't sure what to expect from it, beings how I've not read a doodle/drawing book for 12 years. This book is definitely for anybody who's interested in getting into being able to draw more than just a stick figure, yes, even myself. This describes the different utensils that can be used and the different items that can be used for drawing on and everything from how to draw just for drawing/doodling purposes to what and where you want to be creative on, journaling, planners, cards, etc. I pray whomever picks this book up enjoys it just as much as I did.
Sidenote.. It's something you could read right through from cover to cover or skim it all and get started right away. I loved this book.
Doodle It All! is a super comprehensive tutorial on doodling, covering practically everything and anything that you might want to doodle, whether in your journal, on your calendar, in an art notebook, or basically anywhere. It includes basic doodles, such as animals, everyday objects, modes of transportation, food, clothing, flowers, and people. But it also includes surprising things that I didn't expect, like nesting dolls, famous landmarks, and world folk costumes (although the people that were wearing these outfits basically looked like white girls...). The doodles are pretty cute although the expressions of some of the animals were a bit odd (one friend said they looked like they were high!). Another issue I have with the book is that it purports to be have "easy step-by-step illustrations," and while it looks easy at first, when you actually start doodling based on the steps in the book, you realize that they actually skip over a bunch of steps, especially for the harder doodles, it sometimes takes a little while to figure out how to get from one step to the next. (disclaimer: this is coming from someone who is not an artist at all, so if you're more artistically inclined, you may think the steps are fine, but I think this book was probably designed for amateur doodlers.) Overall though, the book still gives users a lot of great doodle ideas and inspirations, it's just a matter of needing to take the time to practice.
I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
Doodle it all really does seem to contain every doodle you can think of! I'm always keen to read books about simplistic drawing to help me improve my drawing skills and art work. Since I work with children this is always a great book type for me to discover. This book was amazing. The doodles are so easy to follow with the great instructions given with each one. I loved this book and would definitely buy it!
This book is ideal for not just children but grown ups too.
A funny little book to learn to doodle. You will learn the top basics about doodling, it's so much relaxing, I can't stop doodling at work on every piece of paper that I found.
I think this book would be really good for children and young people as an easy-to-follow doodle guide with bright colours and fun, quirky doodles.
I really loved practicing the doodles in this book. They are simple but make for a great art form or relaxation technique that anyone can do. There are simple drawings with easy instructions for many different drawings. The animals are more of an animated form and very cute with a couple different drawings for each type of animal. The drawings could be adjusted for size to fill a whole piece of paper or drawn small with other drawings around it for a complete page of various drawings. They can be colored, painted or drawn with any type of media.
Doodle It All has easy to follow step by step instructions for literally everything you could ever imagine wanting to doodle, as well as helpful tips and information on different types of pens and how to choose the best for the doodle of your choice. A fun and helpful book to get your creative juices flowing in these crazy times!
I love the style of these doodles, I think they're great. Cute and fun with bright colours. Easy to follow instructions and a big assortment of doodle ideas to choose from.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for provide me with a digital copy in exchange for my honest review.
This is a very simple doodle drawing book. Probably because my family has art experience, it is a bit too simple for us to really use.
I do think that beginning drawers without much practice in art could have fun with the doodles featured in the book, because they are cute! It might actually help kiddos that don’t have creative confidence want to try since the doodles are very easy to do & outlined in this book.
Doodle It All is a sweet little book to keep handy for simple ways to draw things. Want to draw rudimentary little cats? They’re in here. Faces of babies to grownups? In here. The methods are simple and quite easy: start with a circle, a square, rectangle, oval, etc. And then add things one step at a time.
This is not a book about sophisticated drawing. No painting. No lessons. But at what it tries to do, it is successful. I think one of the book’s suggestions that you can decorate stationary is a good idea, especially for children, tweens, and teens. And now, in the time of Covid-19, kids could use paint pens on white cotton masks to personalize the masks they wear. A parent, a librarian, and a teacher can create a lot of good projects by using this book.

I'm terrible at drawing anything and so I'm always happy to come across anything that can help me become better at it because although I'm terrible at it, I love to doodle. I always get annoyed when these 'learn how to draw' books don't actually have complete step-by-step instructions on how to achieve said drawing or doodle but this one didn't disappoint! Not only was this book filled with cute and fun doodles, it also came with simple and easy-to-follow how-to's! I also appreciated the fact that the author talked about the different kinds of pens, paper types, colours and shading/colouring styles that can be used to have your doodle come out looking a certain way. It was very informative and I'll definitely be using this guide when I feel like doodling or even taking it beyond doodling to making home-made cards in the future.
Fantastic book to learn how to doodle for all ages - great for journaling and entertains all ages with the knowledge of how to draw in a simple form
Doodling is "easy" but are your doodles as cut as you wished??
With Doodle it All, that is a question of the past. This colourfully book will provide you with the basics to make the best doodles ever!
Starting with a comprehensive list of materials to use (pencil, colors, pens and types of paper) and a step by step how to technic, the reader (or artist) will advance amazingly fast throughout the different levels of Doodle complexity.
A book fit for all ages!

This was a cute book with a lot of different types of characters to draw. I am not an artist, so this is a perfect beginner book for me. It is very basic, though, and would make a great beginner doodling book or children’s book. The author walks you through some basics and the different types of pens to use before diving into the doodles. I especially enjoyed how to take a simple doodle, like a cat, and tweak it slightly to make several different types of cats.
I did notice some typos and the formatting was way off. This ebook does not translate well onto an iPad. I found it very difficult to read and follow. I’m sure it makes a really cute book, but definitely not an ebook. Thank you to Netgalley for the providing me an eARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Doodle Away the Day
Doodle It All is filled page to page with a large variety of easy to draw doodles. From animals, to people, food, and flowers there are a lot of doodles to learn in this book. This is a very accessible drawing book, as the doodles use simple shapes, and coloring techniques. Each doodle is broken down to show each shape as they build into a recognizable design. The doodle designs as a whole do not share the same style, as some designs are more childlike than others. In the same way, some doodle designs come out more recognizable than others. Also, some of the designs are reiterated with different details or with a different perspective. The written descriptions are brief clues to understanding the shapes of the doodle. Though, quite a few of the doodles have no instruction at all. This would have been a stronger doodle book if the designs were consistent, with a more instructive dialogue on how doodles are designed. Over all, this is a fun and stress-free doodle book, with a lot of creative content.
Very cute and easy for kids to learn to doodle. Very amenable to them due to the colors. Will improve their observation skills.
