The patterns in this book are simple, elegant and so versetile.
Laid out in a clean format with lots of pictures, I found the patterns easy to follow and though not an experienced embroiderer I felt successful with my projects from this book.
Very nice book by Japanese embroidery artist by Yumiko Higuchi. It has beautiful simple folk art inspired emroidery motives and clear and simple step by step instructions.
Both the flower and animals are adorable and the suggestions of how to use the motives together and alone are a welcome addition. The pattern embroideris are incredible and I got all kinds of ideas of how to use them.
This book has beautiful pictures of Yumiko Higuchi's work and will probably be perfect for an embroiderer with some experience but will inspire all to create more.
Simply Stitched with Embroidery is a niche book that focuses on motifs and small designs intended for use in small purses and bags. While the designs are attractive and can be multipurposed for other projects and I enjoyed reading through the review copy, there isn't enough substance outside of the purses to make this book a worthwhile purchase for me.
Truly beautiful! The photos throughout this book are eye catching and the instructional portions were informative though spare. If you have a basic sewing knowledge this book is perfect for you! I am itching to try my hand at making a super cute new purse or even incorporating some of these projects into other clothing projects.
This is a lovely little book that, in my opinion, is best suited to someone with some experience in sewing and embroidery, though beginners and advanced stitchers will find it useful as well. The book serves as both instruction and inspiration, giving patterns for nine different purses of different size and shape, and dozens of patterns for embroidery motifs in flora and fauna themes. There aren't really projects included, other than the basic patterns for the purses and motifs; rather, there are lots of photos of sample projects that the reader can use as a starting point to plan their own project. There are basic instructions, including materials used, tools, a stitch guide, tips, and techniques for making the purses, and templates of the patterns with suggested colors for the embroidery. The instructions are clear and uncomplicated, with lots of illustration. As a very novice sewer, putting together the purses looks a little intimidating to me, but not so difficult that I think I couldn't do it. The motifs are fairly simple, with a folk art look, and have a lovely look that could easily be used in any type of project, by any skill level. Inspirational and fun!

There are some beautiful bags and purses in this book.
I am a novice and haven’t started any embroidery yet so this book is a little advanced for me. If I get going I will refer to this book at a later date.
If you are experienced then this book is just lovely [ I saw that there were other books written by the same author] and there are lots of projects to keep you busy. Some of the detailing is quite exquisite.
The only thing is that the format doesn’t seem quite right. Presenting the projects and then all the details are at the back of the book instead of following the picture and how to make. This makes it even more awkward if you get the book on a reader device.
Overall a lovely book.
I've followed the author on instagram for some time, so I was excited to receive a copy of her book. I love her aesthetic; It feels both timeless & modern, sweet but sophisticated. The patterns very much fit her style, yet they're varied enough that I think most people could find something that speaks to them. I love that the motifs are shown in multiple colorways and arrangements.
If you're looking for in depth embroidery instruction, this may not be the place to start, as the instructions given are very minimal. On the other hand, the motifs seem quite straightforward so I think an adventurous novice would still be successful. The instructions for the purse are clear and easy to follow. I do feel like the purses "and more" part of the title is a bit misleading; the projects here are all purses of various shapes and sizes, though of course you could incorporate the motifs into whatever project you might like.
The book shows easy but cute ideas to embroider. I'm new to embroidery and I loved the flowers in these desings were different from the flowers I ussually find in other books. I also loved the cats and the useful instrucctions on how to sew in the clasps.
Cute book! I'm not a purse person, but I would definitely make some of these as gifts! I think that the patterns included in this book are very simple but charming indeed.
With the pandemic keeping us at home and in need of things to do, I think embroidery is one of those creative outlets. Beautiful stitch patterns to follow and plenty of inspiration, as well as how to instructions. Of course, practice makes perfect, and we all have plenty of time for that at the moment. I hope to get this book in hand, as I am sure the physical copy is very pretty to look at!
Well Done! I thought the photos with directions were easy to follow, original and inspirational. I liked the idea of small, decorative motifs to add to a purse or bag to enhance the apperance. Full size templates are included with a variety of decorative patterns.
I thought the Author did an excellent job desctibing the materials needed, designing and implementing the patterns as well as ways to transfer the patterns, so they can be handstitched. I prefer hand stitching over machine embroidery and this book focused on creating and enhancing items with embroidery.
Thank you Netgalley and Zakka Workshop for the opportunity to read and review this wonderful book!

Such a beautiful book. Every single book by Yumiko Higuchi is so well done, but this one has such a good variety of patterns, floral, but also people and animals. You can easily use these patterns to put on a hoop or use on the purses as intended. The instructions are crystal clear and everything is laid out perfectly. Lovely to see such an inventive use of embroidery that's done with both care and precision.
Beautiful book with very clear instructions on how to make gorgeous embroidery. I was glad to see visual instructions as well as written. Her designs are very simple and elegant. Looking forward to creating a piece with her tutorial.

If you interested in embroidery, then this is a lovely book, with lots of clear photos to help you create something amazing!

This book would be the perfect gift for any embroidery hobbyist who is looking to expand their craft beyond hoops and onto fun items such as purses or bags. Simple yet elegant, these designs will be perfect to continue improving and perfecting the embroidery craft.
This is such a pretty book. The designs are simple but so effective and creative. I love the tiny little purses the most and I really want to make one!
Everything is laid out clearly and is easy to read. Stitches are explained with pictures and words to make it easy for beginners to pick up this book too.
While there are only a couple of bags in the book, there are so many designs to experiment with and I think that they would work well on a variety of other projects too. Definitely a good book to have for a range of projects, not just bags/pouches.
This is a beautiful book. There are 20 gorgeous embroidery designs with lovely flowers, butterflies, feathers, cats, bird, flamingos, mushrooms, lemons, and people. The designs each fit one or more of the 9 small purses also designed by the author. There are clear directions on how to make the 9 different bags with a full list of required supplies well as where to purchase them. There are also instructions for how to make tassels and pompoms. For each bag there are suggested embroidery designs with full size patterns.
Included are lovely color pictures of the completed embroidery on each of the purses. There are pictured directions for doing each of the embroidery stitches required as well as directions for transferring the designs and starting and finishing the threads. Anyone who already loves embroidery or who wants to learn how will love this book.
I thank Netgalley and Zakka Workshop for allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is a fun book with easy to follow instructions! Just reading it made me want to do more crafts related to embroidery and the photos help teach you. I really think I learned some techniques and ideas from this book, which is an A+++!
Lots of cute, little projects! Directions seem pretty well explained for beginners. I'm excited to get started!
Absolutely Beautiful! I love doing Embroidery and always look for new stitches and ideas to make new project. This book would work for anyone who shares my passion. You will definitely enjoy the pretty projects. The stitches are explained well. The instructions are easy to follow. So, I recommend you definitely get this book. I prefer the actual book to digital, but that’s purely preference. Either way, it works out great. Happy Stitching!
