This book was wonderful! It gives some very beautiful illustrations and history about witches. I really loved learning more about witchcraft and about nature witches. The subject is absolutely fascinating and it was super well done.

I was interested in this book because I'm someone who is very interested in the history of witches and witchcraft as well as how its been revived and how its used these days. You see a ton of books that cater to this idea of "trendy" witchcraft, usually marketed towards women, but this was the first one of those witchcraft books I've seen directly marketed towards teens. This is very clearly a starter book, and it tries to introduce the history of witchcraft and some facets of modern day practice, with about 3/4 of the book history and the last 1/4 practice. I appreciated the focus on history, but the book itself is less than 100 pages and tries to do a lot. As such, big and complex events are put into short paragraphs, so it's really an overview for beginners. There were a few errors, and it presents a very simplified history that is almost entirely focused on Western Europe and the United States, with a few mentions of Baba Yaga and vodou as well as some of the associations between witches and Anti-semitism. This is the kind of thing I would've loved when I was in high school, but its so simplistic that I can only recommend this to people with absolutely no knowledge of the history of witchcraft looking for a short, short crash course. The same goes for the sections on practice.

The book seems to have been translated from French, and there are quite a few typos, and the translation is clunky at times. In addition, there are some sections that were not translated which is presumably an error. The art is beautiful and was probably the best part of the book.

I want to thank NetGalley, the publisher, and the authors for providing me with an ARC of Secrets of the Witch.

I loved this so much!! I’m surprised it’s under the Teens & YA category; I think anyone, regardless of age, will find this enjoyable. This was bursting at the seams with information and the illustrations were the icing on the cake for me. Magic and witchcraft are two of my favorite things and this book explained them beautifully!

Thank you again to those named above for providing me with an ARC of this novel!

This was a beautiful read!

Full of information and beautiful illustrations, "Secrets of the Witch" helps to understand the nature of magic, witches and their hunt many, many years ago. Mixed with feminist references and explaining why most of the accusations of witchcraft were made against women (free, independant, childless women).

I found this book both really informative and fun, even though I don't really see a 9 year old girl reading about the huntings (which explanations were a little graphic sometimes), nor an experienced witch using the activities at the end. Still great, though!

Hay algunas partes no traducidas (frases, citas o la sección entera de runas). Also faltan letras o sobran
