Her Second Chance Cowboy will sweep you away to a place of joy, sorrow, laughter, tears, and the search for answers to a long-ago mystery. A fast-paced romance that will take you on a journey of forgiveness and second chance romance. The characters are well-written with intriguing backstories. They are realistic and relatable. Her Second Chance Cowboy is a must-read this summer!
I cried often, for happy and sad moments, and anyone who can pull that much emotion out of me, gets a for me rare 5 star review! I loved Reese and James. I loved Reese and James together. Reese is just so sweet and what woman wouldn't want a guy as caring as James. There's also a suspense element that really adds to the story (I like suspense in my romances).
James made a huge mistake but one many teenagers make and he's paid for it. He's also really grown up. He has sadly some serious baggage that gets in the way of his relationship with Reese more than once. Stupid, realistic man.
Reese wants both an exciting career traveling the globe taking pictures for National Geographic and a family. Equally. Just when she realizes which she wants more James pulls one of his bone-headed moves. Can this couple find love, save the ranch and have their happily every after? Of course but you'll have to live a lot with them first.
Can James open his heart to falling love?
Photographer Reese Turner returned to Cypress Creek to hopefully buy back her grandparent’s place while she did a freelance job for a local developer while she waited to hear about her application with National Geographic. Reese ran into an old boyfriend James MacLachlan while he was repairing the roof of her grandparent’s old house.
James was happy being single, never intending to have children or marry but Reese’s returning to Cypress Creek made him realize that wanting a future with someone like his grandparents had was worth opening their heart to someone.
P.S. I love stories where the couple reconnects and falls in love again.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This was the first time I read anything from this author. I enjoyed most of the story line but there seemed to be too much “stuff” unnecessarily crammed into the pages. There were so many twists and turns and side plots that never really developed and so much angst that could’ve been avoided by just some honest communication.
I was about to give up on this book, but I’m very glad I didn’t. The beginning was a little too repetitive for me but it got better. We got to witness the growth in James as he battles his past & his feelings for Reese.it seemed like the past was constantly repeating itself with James & him hurting her heart. When they both finally got past themselves we experienced the joy of them learning to live in the present & look to the future. I really enjoyed Gregor & Ellen, James’s grandparents, they were the icing on the journey to finding love. Recommend
I am always on the lookout for a “new” author, and decided to give this cowboy story a try.
The story centers around James MacLachlan and Reese Turner.
These two were HS sweethearts but the young relationship ended up badly and she left town. Leaving James brokenhearted and only interested in casual relationships.
Nowadays Reese is a well respected photographer gunning for a National Geographic assignment. She is back in Cypress Creek with the intent of buying back her grandparents home.
James has become a wealthy rancher. One who now owns Reese’s grandparents former home.
While trying to navigate the attraction neither wants, they also are trying to figure out who’s buying ranch land for development.
Will they solve the mystery? Will they get a second chance at love? Or will it all be a memory left behind?
A story with an engaging plot and one that left me wanting to read more stories by this author.
I was entrusted a copy of this book by Netgalley and Entangled: Amara.
The opinions expressed are solely my own.
I love a second chance romance. Makenna Lee done an amazing job with James and Reese by giving you enough of their backstory to the struggles that separated them to finally reuniting them. This story was romantic, sexy, mysterious, and suspenseful.
Reese is a hard working photographer out to prove her success to her father while trying to buy back the biggest and most precious memory from her childhood, her grandmother's cottage. Her current freelance job puts her in direct conflict with her blast from the past and he also holds the key (literally) to her heart's desire- while opening that heart up to an all new desire.
James is extremely hard working and on a mission to open his own equine therapy center. While entertaining the ladies is fun, he has always kept it casual in fear of turning out heartbroken and lost like his father. The one that got away- because of his dumbness- is back in town and tempting James in more ways than one.
James and Reese team up to solve a MacLachlan family mystery that is romantic, fun and entertaining. James' grandparents are the sweetest and he is a true family man with a hard head on actually becoming one himself.
Reese is pulled away from the quaint little town of Cyprus Creek to take care of things back in Austin. Heartbreaking news and situations that land her in a bind cause for twists and turns in this romantic plot and add to the thrill of these two earning their second chance together.
I love this book and look forward to more from both Makenna Lee and Cyprus Creek.
This second-chance romance was made more exciting by the little bit of mystery that was included in the plot. Reese and James were high school classmates who lived next door to each other until Reese's grandmother passed away unexpectedly and she left town with her parents. James is now a rancher who takes care of his family's ranch along with plans to start a horse therapy business. He and his family own Reese's grandparents' old farm, which Reese wants to buy back and use as a home base while traveling as a professional photographer. Both of these main characters have deep-seated trust issues that, of course, complicate matters between them but I loved the way the characters were introduced and bits and pieces of their backstories were revealed.
Someone is trying to buy out ranchers in the Cyprus Creek (Texas) area in order to develop the area into a rustic resort and they seem to be using underhanded tactics to try to get farmers to sell to them. Reese thinks that her old boss, Mr. Everett, is the one behind the attacks on the properties and fails to fill James in on her connection to Mr. Everett and what he might be doing. Of course, this comes back to bite her in the long run.
Besides the mystery surrounding the problems with the area ranchers there also seems to be a mystery involving James' and Reese's ancestors and they are determined to figure out what the clues they are uncovering also mean. I found the entire story hard to put down and would be interested to read further books in a series set around the town of Cyprus Creek if they come along. I received a free Advanced Readers Copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
Between the mystery and the romance, Her Second Chance Cowboy had the right combination for a great Summer read. However, the conversations and flirting put me off. I struggled to enjoy this book.
Makenna Lee’s Second Chance Cowboy, A Cypress Creek Novel, is certain to sweep you away to a place of joy, sorrow, laughter, tears, and the search for answers to a long ago mystery. The story moves along at a rapid pace, leading the reader through James and Reese’s journey of forgiveness and finding love again. I’m quite intrigued about the secondary characters in the story and hope that there will be another one written for Finn and Astrid.
This ARC book was complimentary, provided by the Publisher and NetGalley. I am voluntarily providing my honest review.
Complementary copy given for honest review and opinion from Netgalley.
I really enjoyed this book. Makenna Lee took her readers on an adventure of treasure hunts and land developers. She took us on romantic adventures of reconnecting and second chances. I recommend this book to the romance readers that love a great plot with characters you will remember.
This is my first book by Makenna Lee. I enjoyed this book about a photographer that goes "home" to Texas to see her grandparents' old farmhouse. It has since been sold and she had hoped to purchase the house outright. But low and behold, the person that now owns the house is the boy she was in love with as a teenager. He broke her heart in a very public way and humiliated her just before her family moved away for good. Seeing him brought up all these memories - does he deserve a second chance? Could he have a reason for publicly humiliating her the way he did? This is a sweet story that offers the couple a HEA - as long as her dream job of being a photographer for National Geographic doesn't get in the way.
Her Second Chance Cowboy by Makenna Lee a five-star read that deserves all the chances. This was a charming read and my first by this author, and hopefully not my last. I enjoyed the interweaving stories of the summer romance, the history, the photography, and the land. All of these storylines just culminate in a compelling and heart-warming story, but as in life it’s not always happiness and moon glow, there is drama a plenty and twists to keep you hooked. I also enjoyed how we got to meet other characters that I can’t wait to hear more from. Overall this gave me the warm and fuzzies and makes me want to hear more from this author.
The story of James and Reese.
She is only back in town for a quick visit, but will there be a second chance for her and James after he hurt her back in high school.
Someone is also trying to sabotage the local ranches - will they find out who it is and manage to stop them before it goes too far?
I truly enjoyed Her Second Chance Cowboy. It’s the first book I’ve read by Makenna Lee, but it won’t be the last.
Reese returns to Cypress Creek to see if she can buy back her late grandparents’ home and land. She is a photographer, who has made it on the “short” list for a job with National Geographic. While on her grandparents’ former land, she sees James, an old flame from high school. Their relationship ended badly. Reese finds out that James owns the land and they work out a no-commitment relationship where she can spend time on the property her grandparents used to own.
Will Reese get the National Geographic job? Who is the big developer, and why does he want to buy the land that James owns? What happens with her relationship with James? And what is the treasure hunt all about?
You have to read this book to find out. It will be well worth your while.
I received an e-book from the Publisher and NetGalley. This is my honest review.
A sweet second-chance romance with a bit of mystery thrown in. Though I found it got a bit slow in parts with too much internal monologue of should I or shouldn’t I back-and-forth.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book that I received from Netgalley; however, the opinions are my own and I did not receive any compensation for my review.
Lee wrote a sweet romance. Reese comes back to her hometown of Cypress Springs to take photographs and runs into an old flame, James. Of course the attraction is still there and they embark on a no commitment relationship, which of course, both privately year for just that. A few complications, employment, misunderstandings, and a mystery enhance and detract their realionaship. The one aspect that was really Romantic was James reading her old romance novel to her, the one she never finished this summer they broke up. I thought that was a nice touch. A dreamy cowboy in Texas always gets my vote for a great read.
Reese lives in Cypress Creek and is taking pictures of a shirtless cowboy. James, the cowboy, has taken possession of some of her family's property. James used to be an old flame. I liked some of the flirting but some of it was off putting. I got bored after the "treasure hunt"
