This second installment in the Sawyer Brooks series is a well written addition to that series. Sawyer is investigating the abduction of a young girl and the vigilante group that has been targeting sex offenders. Sawyer believes that Riley is the latest girl to be abducted in what seems to be a string of abductions of blond, blue eyed 10-12 year old girls. She’s racing against time to discover what happened before Riley runs out of time.

T. R. Ragan has created strong characters that are striving to cope with and overcome the horrific abuse they have suffered in their past. This book holds your interest and keeps you flipping pages to the very end. I’m looking forward to seeing what happens next for Sawyer and her sisters.

Another great series that keeps going strong! T.R. Ragan has a gift for creating complex characters woven through multiple plots that all come together like a tapestry. I loved the Lizzie Gardner series and wanted more, now again we have a strong heroine who has made it through a horrific life and come out stronger, without realizing it. The growth of the characters is really a subplot on it's own and you will root for all of them, especially "The Crew". . .A must read for all mystery lovers!

I am a big T.R. Ragan fan and this book did not disappoint. It was a little slow going in the first couple of chapters but once the story got going I didn’t want to put it down. I especially loved the interaction between Sawyer and Aria. They made a good team. It was also nice to see Sawyer coming out of the darkness a little. The first book in this series was a little heavy but this one had a more optimism for the main characters.
I received a copy from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

this is the second book in a series, but works fine as a stand alone. there are two stories, missing girls and a vigilante group, the first story worked better, the second one didn't feel realistic. I got that it was an attempt to find ways to heal from terrible abuse but it wasn't believable and would have preferred another vehicle for getting that part across.

Sawyer Brooks investigative crime journalist will be working for a long time to overcome growing up surviving sex abuse by family members. As a reporter she grabs on to a story like a dog grabs a bone, there is no stopping her until she brings it to a conclusion and saves the individual in danger. In this case the person in danger is a missing preteen, Riley, who Sawyer will fight to bring home what ever way she can. Her investigative methods often infuriate the police as well as her boss but she is tenacious. No child will suffer any kind of horrors, she knows what it can do to the child. With the excellent help of her middle sister Aria, they work furiously to solve the case and in doing so may solve a few more.

This story goes back and forth with the sub plot created by the Black Wig vigilantes to which her oldest sister belongs, which Sawyer has not a clue. The Wigs are in the news regularly as men suddenly go missing or found damaged. Each member of the group has been sexually abused in some way and they are out for revenge. It’s a study of behavior, ideas, anger, and so much more and you wonder will this be a sad case for Sawyer to solve in the future. Time will tell. Interesting read, scary for both young people who suffer at the hands of adults and women who desperately need help. Not only a suspense novel but a study of people and their actions.

I enjoyed this book. However, I did not have a chance to read the first book in the trilogy. For this reason, I found the running of two concurrent stories in same book somewhat distracting. I understand the purpose of the writing style but would have preferred separate, individual books. It was a fast paced thriller that i read eagerly, just distracting when the writing jumped to the second story.

Sawyer Brooks is an investigative crime reporter. In this story she is investigating a woman kidnapper. The plot is interesting and the characters are well-developed. I did not read the first book in this series. I understand that it contained a Sawyer Brooks story and a subplot of a group of women, The Crew, who had been assaulted and abused planning and enacting revenge on their attackers. I am not crazy about his type of storyline with the two stories being written together so I didn't really get into the story. I am sure reader who like this writing style will enjoy this book.

I cannot get enough of T R Ragan books, they are so addictive . This is the second book in the Sawyer Brooks series and after the dark read that was the first book, Don't Make a Sound, try and keep me away. If you like fast, twisty and clever reads here is the author for you!

Sawyer Brooks is an investigative journalist in Sacramento who lived her own horror story. Still coming to terms with the family secrets that came to light in the first book, Sawyer is trying to get back to a normal sort of life. She is still untrusting and hesitant to get close to anybody - but wouldn't you be with what she has been through? She is a tough character and doesn't let things go easily. When she learns that a young girl has been kidnapped on her way to school she starts looking into it. What she is finds is that a pattern is emerging and this person needs to be stopped. At the same time, the Black Wig crew are dealing out their own form of revenge on those that have wronged them.

Out of Her Mind was not quite as dark as the first book but it is till not for those with a weak stomach! I love that about her books.

Thanks so much to Thomas and Mercer and Netgalley for my advanced copy of this book to read.

Gut wrenching, nerve racking, emotional psychological thriller. Twist, turns. Violence, murder. I had not read book 1 in this series. and was able to read book 2 with no problems. Missing out on book 1 is not the norm.. T.R.Ragan is a must read for me. They all make me cringe and at the same time see hope. They make me despise the "bad guys - so to speak" and question, how, what happened. There are possible triggers, the violence (some on kids) the past revelations on rape from other women (Black WIg) , mention of incest, and while all that was shared was indeed gut wrenching it has its place in this thriller. At the end of the day, I was entertained, I was shocked, I was scared and I was hopeful. Watching Sawyer grow from beginning of the book to the end was enlightening. The statistics about children abduction. were an eye opener, thought provoking and needed in this day and age. I will definitely be looking for book 3 and going to put my big girl panties on to go read book 1. I have a feeling I will need it. Thank you T.R. Ragan for another great read, Thomas and Mercer for allowing NetGalley to share this arc with me. I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions and recommend this to and thriller addict, 18 or older.

In this second book of the series Sawyer Brooks, 27 year old investigative reporter with the Sacramento Independent paper, is on the trail,of a missing child. The child was reported missing just after the bones of another child have been discovered in a park. Sawyer can smell a story here and dives straight in. She learns that about 5 young girls, all aged 10-12 years old have gone missing in the Sacramento area in the last five years.

As in the first book, the female vigilante group which call themselves The Crew is still getting payback on some of the men that have abused them in the past. But now Sawyer’s boss wants her to write about the group, which the paper is calling the Black Wigs because of their disguises. While Sawyer is chasing leads on missing girls, The Crew (or Black Wigs) have abducted another man and, as before, things are not going to plan. Neither is Sawyer’s quest to find missing girl, Riley Addison, before her time runs out as it inevitably will. But after adding 2 and 2 to get 5 Sawyer has lost her chance to get the police interested in her theories. So when she finally thinks she’s on the right track she has to go it alone. The two stories run in a kind of parallel to get two dramatic endings.

While I enjoyed this book and will be keen to see how Sawyer and her two sisters get on in the future, I didn’t think this book added anything that the first book didn’t have. I think it was a bit formulaic in that regard. Nevertheless Ragan writes strong female characters really well and I Iike that her chief protagonists are not police officers and that they have all battled adversity to get where they are. This will appeal to all mystery and thriller fans who enjoy a strong female lead. Thanks to Netgalley, Thomas & Mercer and T.R. Ragan for the review copy. My opinions are my own.

This is the second book in the Sawyer Brooks Series and it was just as good as the first.

If you can handle kidnapping, violence (some against children), murder, revenge, dogged persistence (by Sawyer), twists / turns, action-packed, edge of your seat page turning than you will love this book.

I can't wait for book #3!!!

One thing is inescapable: All three of the Brooks sisters - Sawyer, Harper and Aria - are about as emotionally screwed up as any three characters possibly can be. The "star" of the trio, Sawyer, is perhaps doing the best job of recovering from the almost unbelievable abuse heaped upon them as youngsters - she's a fairly successful crime reporter with the Sacramento Independent. As with the first book in the series, Don't Make a Sound, she's trying her best to come up with solid, interesting stories and gain the respect of her boss and co-workers.

There are two story lines at work here, the first of which is the disappearance of 12-year-old Riley Addison and near concurrent discovery of the skeletal remains of another female child. The second is the work of "The Crew," a support group of five seriously abused women whose sole purpose is vengeance. Sawyer has been following up on the second with little progress, but quickly, she turns her investigative reporter's eye toward the first. Fairly early on, her search reveals that a psychopathic serial kidnapper may have been at work for years.

Chapters that switch among perspectives of the various characters (including at least one from The Crew that is, for reasons I won't reveal, quite relevant to Sawyer) keep things moving along quickly amid plenty of action (some of which doesn't make for very pleasant reading, but it's impactful). This time, Sawyer enlists help from sister Aria; at first, I was skeptical, but by the end I'd warmed up to the idea and hope they'll continue to team up in future books.

Are things wrapped up in a neat package and tied with a bow in the end? Well, yes and no - leaving fodder for the next installment that, I promise, I'll be watching for. Till then, many thanks to the publisher, via NetGalley, for the opportunity to read and review this one. Good job once again!

Another outstanding novel by T.R Ragan. She always manages to suck you into the story. Opening from the killers perspective always manages to engage me and this is exactly what T.R Ragan has done. The pacing of this book was overall good. It took me around 100 pages to really get into the novel and by half way though I couldn't put the book down. For faster readers this book could probably be read on a Saturday afternoon curled up with a nice blanket. There are three/four point of view changes throughout the book Sawyer our heroine, her sister Harper our victim and the killer "Bubbles." I personally enjoy these breakups however I could see not everyone feeling the same way.

I still feel very wary about Sawyer profession, investigative journalism. I understand that most cop procedural are overplayed in novels like this and I applaud T.R Ragan for stepping out of that bubble. However I do find some of it to be hard to sallow. Such as who calls them to come to crimes scenes? You know the cops have no desire to have reporters there. What about the lack of access to that scene. Now this didn't seem to be too much of an issue for this book but moving forward with her character how is this going to play out?

I loved that T.R Ragan used a woman killer for this novel (we find this out in the first sentence). Women killers are very underrated and not used often. This killer Bubbles that Ragan has created make one sick to their stomach. Ragan has done such a wonderful job at making you hate her.

I was not overly in love with Harper's story line this go around. I just didn't feel that she had the same motivation/gumption that she had in the first book. I really felt as though she was floundering and just along for the ride We did eventually see character growth but I am not sure it was enough. Especially for this to be it's own subplot.

As silly as this is I fell in love with a little old lady Sawyer interview in her journey. This lady maybe said there or four sentences however in my head she was just wonderful. I was really hoping to hear more from her but alas she was just to help move the plot along. Even so she did it expertly.

Overall this is another great book from Ragan right inline with what we come to expect from her. Fast paced, action packed with a mystery that is unraveled like a beautiful blooming onion. I absolutely would recommend this to anyone who loves thrillers and a good mystery book. Then when they fall in love with it to back and read the rest of her work as they are all just as good.

This is the second book about Sawyer Brooks.
Sawyer, her sisters and The Crew is back for a second round and it’s even better than the first. She’s a investment reporter and when she gets her hooks into a story there is no letting go. Ms. Ragan is the queen of crazy and dark.
The Crew or the Black Wigs as the Press has dubbed them is a female vigilante group out for justice. Unfortunately there are not very good at it and things go wrong from the start. This installment was not as dark as the first book but the evil is still just as crazy.

I wanted to finish reading the first book in the series, before jumping into this one.
As per usual, Ragan is on form with her writing. She is a master of fast paced thrillers, you always know what you are going to get and are rarely disappointed.
This was an excellent follow up to the first book, I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Looking forward to the next release by this author.
4,5 stars!

Kidnapped young girls, a vigilante group of women trying to bring their form of justice to men who have gotten away with rape. Reporter Sawyer Brooks is investigating both crimes for a possible story. There isn’t really a mystery in the story because you know who the guilty parties are but the suspense is whether the identities are revealed in time for the police to rescue the girl. The story of the vigilante women isn’t resolved and I suspect it will be addressed in the next book. This is the second book in the series but it could be read a stand alone.thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.

I happened upon a T.R. Regan book by accident, and was eager to read more. Crime reporter Sawyer Brooks is a great character, and I can’t wait to see where she ends up next.

This is the second book to feature Sawyer Brooks, following Don't Make a Sound, which I have not read. While I found this did not completely torpedo my ability to follow this second book without having read the first, I think it would have been quite helpful to have read that first book, especially to understand Sawyer's personal issues and the Black Wig ladies. It was a bit confusing to suddenly jump into the head of one of the latter group.

Here, we have Sawyer looking into the disappearance of a young girl after her music lesson at the home of her piano teacher. While the authorities are treating it as a generic disappearance, Sawyer digs around and finds connections to other disappearances. When the bones of a small child are unearthed, the stake get even higher, and it's then a race against time for Sawyer to find the missing girl, with the help of her editor and sister.

I filed this under thriller instead of mystery, because there is no mystery here: we know who took the girl, because the perpetrator gets their own turn in the spotlight, with several chapters from their viewpoint. The only mystery involved here is whether Sawyer and crew will find the girl before she, too, winds up in a shallow grave.

When the narrative suddenly broke into the viewpoint of one of the Black Wigs women, it was a little jarring and a tad confusing. Again, this may be due to me not having read the first book. We also get several scenes of what those women are doing to men who have harmed them. It wasn't until the third time that I realized one of the women was Sawyer's other sister (not the one helping her find the missing girl).

The story was enjoyable enough - there isn't anything hidden from the reader, so what Sawyer knows, we know, and that's a plus for me, as I don't like withheld evidence that prevents readers from connecting the dots to find the ad guy (or in this case, potentially find the missing girl).

I gave this 3.5 stars out of five, and rounded it up to 4, as there were no glaring plot holes. Although there were some scenes that didn't quite ring true, those involved the Black Wig crew and not the main character.

Thanks to Thomas & Mercer and NetGalley for the review copy.
