I really enjoy Sally Hepworth’s books, but this one missed the mark for me. It was slow paced and the story line never grabbed my attention. I will definitely try her next book! Thank you for the advanced copy.
This was slow paced and predictable for me. Thank you to netagally and publsiher for an advanced digital copy.
The Good SIster is the first book I’ve read from Sally Hepworth and it won’t be the last. I devoured this story of twin sisters, Rose and Fern. Rose has her life figured out and in many ways is Fern’s keeper. Fern seems more fragile. She has sensory processing issues. She needs rules and routine and Rose helps to keep Fern sheltered from the chaos of the world.
The story is told in alternating perspectives from Rose and Fern. Rose’s storyline is told from her journal entries.
We get flashbacks of the twin’s lives. How they were connected and watched out for each other early on. But something horrible happened that they have kept secret all these years. As Fern becomes more independent and opens her circle up more, it threatens the bond the twins have and allows the truth come to light.
I was pleasantly surprised how quickly I was drawn into this story. I liked the characters and the character development. Having both sister’s perspectives was brilliant. Even though I figured it out early on, I was still interested in following through with the story and seeing how it played out.
It’s so good - but totally made me cringe. Love Sally Hepworth’s style - her writing is accessible and draws the reader in. The plot twists abound - and Sally has you in for it the whole way - and while you want to look away from just how awful people can be.
Sally Hepworth has become an automatic read for me. Her books always have a twist and you end up rooting for more characters by the end. Another great read!
When I think of mystery, I think of books just like this one, that gives all the thrills. This is a perfect book to snuggle up with on any day.
WOW! This is the best book I've read in a long time. I think this would make an excellent movie. I really became invested in the characters, especially Fern and "Wally" and. being a librarian, I of course loved all the library scenes. I can't believe how long it took me to finally pick up this book and read it. If it's in your TBR list, move it to the front! So good.
The Good Sister by Sally Hepworth was extraordinary! I mean… the plot was astonishing! A page-turner with plot realizations that you will not see coming. Very well done characterizations and superb writing. I wish I could read it again for the first time. This is my 3rd Hepworth and she is now an auto-buy author for me.
I received a review copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley for my honest review. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Gahhh! This book was incredible! So fantastic, lots of twists, love that someone with neurodiversity was a main character, so much manipulation! Wish I read this sooner!
4.5 stars This is a domestic character study meets thriller meets family drama. It’s the type of book where to say too much is to possibly land in spoiler-territory, but trust that both the plot and the characters had me turning the pages well passed my bedtime!
Love her writing style. Her book The Mother In Law knocked it put of the park and she did it again. Just read it! You will not be disappointed. Two sisters Rose and Fern. Share a secret from when they are teenagers to which Rose still protects Fern til this day. Rose goes on vacation and Fern meets someone at the library where she works. She is risking everything. Family drama thriller. I enjoyed the relationship between Wally and Fern
Rose is having fertility troubles and is told by her therapist to start a diary to try to help. With this, we quickly learn that many tragedies struck her and her twin sister, Fern's, lives when they were young. Aside from a cruel upbringing in general, a young boy whom they were close with drowned tragically as well.
Told from alternating POV's from the twin sisters, it takes us on a domestic drama/sometimes thriller, and has us second-guessing who is really the GOOD sister?
A really fast-paced and fun read about sisters who would do anything to save and protect each other, no matter the cost..
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's!!
This one sucked me in and was a quick read! I couldn’t put it down. The characters were great, especially Fern.
I'm a long-time reader of Sally Hepworth and enjoy her books. This one was a slow-burn thriller, taking the reader on a walk through the many waves of abuse and trials of two sisters with an addicted mother. They form a tight bond to survive and collect secrets along the way. These secrets are revealed slowly throughout the book, as we see Fern, who is neurodivergent, open up her world to a love interest. Generally, I'm not a fan of neurodivergence as a plot device and I found myself being bothered by the dependence on that trope. The sister dynamic is powerful and I was definitely drawn in and needed to know what the two had been through. Was it the best Sally Hepworth I've ever read? No. (That would be The Mother-in-Law) Was it a solid thriller worth the read? Yes, absolutely.
I enjoyed this book so much! I especially loved the main character. I can't wait for others to read this!
Oh wow, this was a good read. The author did a great job with charcter development, especially Fern! I adored her. The alternating viewpoints worked well in this book. I was definitely blown away by the ending.
Loved this one! A slow burn, family drama with great characters and a well developed story. All boxes checked. This is at the top of my list for sure!
A twisty story about two sisters who think they know each other. With alternating perspectives and short chapters, this was one I flew through. The final plot twist was a major creep factor, and left me wondering, "WTF". I really enjoyed the audio of this one too.
4.5 stars. Such a great book. Fern snd Rose are twin sisters. From the beginning you know they hold a secret and yet I wasn’t sure who was the good sister snd who wasn’t quite right. The clues were subtle and kept me curious. Sally Hepworth doesn’t disappoint yet again.
Enjoyable thriller that got super twisty! left you questioning the truth. I love Sally Hepsworth, and this didn't disappoint
