Thank you to the publisher for my review copy. All opinions are my own.
Why do I wait so long on Sally Hepworth? This book has been sitting on my shelf for an embarrassingly long time and I loved every single minute of it. Per usual with Sally.
I loved that Sally brought us a character on the spectrum. As a mom of a son on the spectrum, it is always fascinating to read from their point of view. Now, let's talk about the story.
This is a family drama story with a little sprinkling of an unreliable narrator. Both of them, as it is the story of two twin sisters. I couldn't quite put my finger on what was going on...or more clearly what was amis. The story had me completely invested and I couldn't put it down. I needed to know what was up.
Luckily it wrapped up well. I had all my questions answered and felt really good about leaving these characters behind. You know what I mean....that is not always the case.
If you like family drama with a little bit of what the actual hell is going on here....Pick this one up.
THe Good Sister is the first book i have read by Sally Hepworth and i thoroughly enjoyed it!! It was a great read and i cannot wait to read more books of Sally's,
E-book provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for a review.
The Good Sister is a story told through alternate points of view of fraternal twin sisters. Rose and Fern are inseparable and depend on each other. Rose takes on the caretaker role and helps manage Fern's sensory issues. The psychological twists and turns kept me interested enough to finish the book in a couple of days.
Quick, fast paced. I adore Hepworth's books. The twists and turns are not predictable and they're bingeworthy. Loved this book!
The Good Sister follows sisters Fern and Rose, who have shared the same traumatic childhood. They are twins, but extremely different. Rose is an interior designer, and Fern's protector. Fern works at the library, and is sensitive to certain lights and sounds. Told partially through Rose's diary, you learn that the two had a painful upbringing with a mother who had sociopathic tendencies. The diary tells us about a something that Fern did, that Rose helped cover up. But the two sisters' lives are so intertwined that is difficult for them to detach and realize that the past is not what it seems.
I am a huge Sally Hepworth fan. I very much enjoyed this book, and as usual, Sally is wonderful at capturing family dynamics within a suspenseful thriller. Her characters are always so authentic, and she depicted Fern in a way that was natural but also true to the characters' self. Although this was not my favorite Sally Hepworth novel, I would still highly recommend this one. I had a little trouble getting into it with the past and present POVs for some reason, and after a slow start I just wasn't as hooked as normal. This is nothing about the book or writing, I think this was more of my own preferance.
The Good Sister by Sally Hepworth is a slow-burn, atmospheric thriller about two sisters with a relationship that isn’t quite what it seems.
This is my second read from Sally Hepworth, and I cannot believe it took me so long to get to! I was immediately interested in what was going on between Fern and Rose, and I wasn’t quite sure who to trust. The twists and turns throughout this book were so unexpected, and there were times when my mouth dropped open. Thrillers don’t generally make me emotional, but I teared up multiple times while reading The Good Sister, and I think that says a lot about the quality of it.
Content warning for drowning, murder, manipulation, overdose.
A huge thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the ARC of The Good Sister by Sally Hepworth!
What a page tuner! Overall obsessed with this book! This book definitely made me lose sleep because I could NOT put it down! The characters are amazing and overall fascinating. This author is definitely on my list to read in the future!
This book was portrayed as a thriller and I have to say that was false. The book is good, writing is incredible and the story is worth following. But there was nothing thrilling about this novel. It was a very good family/domestic drama.
I really like how this one went, I did take my time to read it as this genre is not my favorite, but all in all a good book.
I have been a fan of Sally Hepworth for sometime now.
The Good Sister was only a 3 star read for me.
I could never get with the dynamics between Rose and Fern.
Though it was a decent read, this one just did not do it for me.
Thanks, NetGalley and St. Martins Press for the E book Arc.
I think Sally Hepworth has a unique style and I really like it! I haven’t read anything else like it that I can compare it to. The Mother in Law was great so I was excited to read her latest book. This book is full of tension and chapter by chapter you start pealing the layers of the twins relationship and their past. I think what makes Sally’s books different is that her characters have a lot of depth. Sometimes thrillers tend to have characters that are not fully developed or only unlikeable characters. Fern was such a great character and you couldn’t not root for her.
I would say there’s not a huge shocking twist (at least there wasn’t for me) but I still found this book to be entertaining and I couldn’t wait to find out how it ended. This isn’t a super dark book so if you’re looking for a darker thriller this is not it. It is a satisfying domestic drama and I recommend it!
This book was very interesting and fast-paced, the author held my attention and the plot was very appealing. I would recommend this book to friends.
This is a very memorable book. Surprise twist interns. As always Sally Hepworth did not disappoint. Great plot, great characters, great family dynamics. I always look forward to a book by this author. Thank you for my advanced copy.
Another fantastic book by this author! Lots of suspense and it will keep you guessing until the end.
Loved the story!

Sally Hepworth is an auto read author for me at this point. Not only because she can write a great family drama, but her engagement on social media as an author is one of the best. I absolutely loved The Mother-in-Law so I went into this book thinking I would fly through it. I truly believe this book fell victim to too much hype. I didn't love it like so many others did. I wasn't a fan of Rose or Fern and the book just didn't match what I wanted. I will make sure to pick up the next Sally Hepworth book as soon as possible so that the buzz doesn't affect my enjoyment.
I loved this book and I'm so sorry I waited so long to read it! After reading Sally Hepworth's The Younger Sister I realized I had this one in my backlist and quickly jumped on reading it. This book is about fraternal twins Rose and Fern who are very different and I did notice that the title only mentions The Good Sister - so I wondered which one was good. The story is told from two points of view - Fern tells her point of view and we learn Rose's point of view through diary entries. I really found myself liking Fern's character - she was quirky, socially awkward, and although it wasn't exactly stated - I wondered if she was autistic. She was extremely likeable though. and I loved that she was a librarian. This is a really good domestic drama (no its not a thriller - don't go in thinking it is or you'll be let down). This will be my third book by this author and she has not let me down yet! Thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review
This was a really good suspenseful read by Sally Hepworth and once again proves she deserves her spot as an auto buy author for me. The mystery and suspense were kept at a steady pace and I was always guessing. Did not predict the ending!
Sally Hepworth captured my attention and love for this book! Growing up with a sister, I can relate to a lot of the competitiveness and rivalry. When the character Fern is introduced to us, you realize her personal quirks and sensory processing disorder. What captured my attention was the fact as children, her sister Rose, with their mom and Fern lived in their car and spent their daytime hours in the public library. Fern, as an adult, is a librarian and falls in love with a unique character, Wally. He lives in his van, by choice, and spends his daytime in the library where she works.
With memories of their childhood, you are reminded how difficult they had it and their mom with a mental disorder. This psychological thriller is shocking and will keep you pushing through it to see who is the Good sister and who is the crazy one. Rose is holding something over Fern's head that happened in their childhood. It appears to be some manipulating and overbearing that you will find out.
I enjoyed this book and all the other ones Hepworth has written.
Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
The Good Sister by Sally Hepworth
This is my first book by Sally Hepworth.
I love her style of writing. This book captured my attention immediately and kept it for the entire book.
I enjoyed the story line and felt myself dying to get back to the book as soon as I could to see where it took me.
I especially liked the way the author built the relationship between the sisters and thought the plot twists were placed to perfection.
My first but not my last Sally Hepworth book.
Another five star read by my new favorite mystery author! I loved The Good Sister so much and never suspected any of the twists, which is hard to do as I read more and more thrillers.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the gifted copy for review
