I really enjoyed this book!! Fast-paced and I couldn't put it down. Any book that gives difficult in predicting what's next is a huge win for me.
After really enjoying the Mother-in-Law, I was excited to read the latest offering from Sally Hepworth. And it did not dialing, the relationship between Rose and Fern was truly beautiful and you could feel the love that had for each other. The secret being kept was revealed halfway through, but little by little more was revealed. I won't go into too much detail as I don't want to give away spoilers, but I honestly loved this book and was sad when it was over.
Sally Hepworth is known for her twisty plots, her characters that never turn out as they appear, and her surprise endings--and The Good Sister is no exception. One of the more fascinating components of this book is Fern is definitely on the spectrum and seeing events through her eyes is always so simple to her, but not really to anyone else. The story told in two voices, which leads the reader to the eventual ending. Be prepared not to put this book down till the end,
Sally Hepworth writes amazing twisty stories that will have you questioning everything until the end. The Good Sister is no exception. This book was well-written and I highly recommend it for fans of domestic thrillers or fans of Hepworth's other books.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy in exchange for an honest review.
I loved this book, very twisty and suspenseful and fun to read. I love Sally Hepworth's novels and this one did not disappoint!
Y'ALL. I've read Sally Hepworth's other books and knew her typical vibe for books. I've really liked her others. When I started this one, it felt like a happy, sunny, fun change from her usually creepy familial thriller.
And that's where she totally got me. And why it turned out to be even creepier in the end. This is all-time fave caliber!
This book follows twin sisters Rose and Fern as they navigate adulthood together. Fern has sensory processing struggles (and I also suspect autism, although the author did not outright say that, but she is very literal, struggles in some social situations, follows routines strictly, etc) and Rose has taken care of her for most of their lives.
I won't say much more because I don't want to give anything away, but Rose isn't what she seems to be and it's so FREAKING creepy. I didn't always know who to believe or what is actually real or a lie. I wanted to shake Fern and find out a way to make her understand that she's in danger.
I stayed up late to finish this one and it was totally worth it!
Sally Hepworth is an auto-buy author for me and I was so excited for an ARC of this book! Part family drama and part mystery- I loved everything about this story! I would've read the book in a single sitting if I could- lots of twists and turns made it super captivating.
Part family drama, part psychological thriller about twin sisters and twisted memories. I love the depth and family elements Hepworth weaves into her stories.
I half listened to the audio book (very well read by the narrator) and I half read the book. I really enjoyed the back and forth between the two characters/sisters and I was easily able to keep the two characters straight because of how distinctly they were written. The end was not nearly as surprising as I believe it was meant to be. Love that neurodivergent characters are getting more well developed in contemporary books.
Fast paced read that kept my attention the entire time. The sensory issues was accurately depicted. Will recommend this one and read more by Sally Hepworth!
I really enjoyed this book. The tone of voice was excellent (the author captured both Rose and Fern's personalities and feelings flawlessly), the use of dual narration worked so well with the story, and the pacing made you wanting to know more!
I loved how the author weaved in past memories to pain the picture of the sisters relationship which propelled the whole story forward and kept me guessing. With a lot of "lighter thrillers" or "domestic dramas", the ending sometimes disappoints but I loved how the book tied up for both sisters.
The Good Sister is a fast paced, psychological thriller or domestic drama centered around twin sisters. The author did an amazing job of deeply developing the characters and allowing the reader to form their opinion on the characters and the story. The characters had a difficult childhood, one with a mother who had mental health issues of her own, which allows to an even deeper level of character development. There is a love story aspect of this book too, which was maybe one of my favorite parts of the book. I also loved the inclusion of an autistic character, something that isn't found in too many books. This book is full of twists and turns and the ending does a great job of wrapping up the story. A quick read - I finished the book in one day!
Thank you St. Martin's Press and Net Galley for providing me with a copy of this book.
Quick read and one of the better thrillers I’ve read this year. Especially loved the twin sister element to the story. Fern was a special character that I just adored.
These are the type of books that make reading so enjoyable, The Good Sister held my interest from page one. This was an unexpected binge read, as I could not put it down. Great job, Sally Hepworth.
I absolutely, totally loved the character Fern. I listened to the audiobook version of this since I'm so far behind on reading. The author captured Fern's personality, and I actually learned some things about my own sensory issues.
The relationship between the twin sisters begins as one might expect, especially when one of them doesn't always understand the world around her. Where their relationship goes will make you question everything you thought you knew about sisterhood. You will wonder the whole time if one or both of the sisters are unreliable.

Thank you for the opportunity to read abs review this book.
This was a great book full of twists and turns. It held my interest until the very end. I loved it! I will be sure to read more by this author.
I have massively enjoyed Sally Hepworth’s books in the past and this one was my favorite by far. She did an amazing job with the individual mental illnesses and portrayed them flawlessly and without them being problematic. I loved how both of the twin sisters in the books were both suffering from different mental illnesses and how she went about both of them, you can tell she really did her research and took her time on them.
This story follows twin sisters Fern and Rose; Fern works in the local library and has a carefully constructed life, avoiding bright lights and loud noises as much as possible. When Rose finds out she can’t get pregnant, Fern knows this is something she can do for her sister give her a baby, she just needs to find a father first. Little do either sister know but Fern’s mission will dredge up dark secrets from their past that neither of them are prepared for.
The fact that the author wrote both mental illnesses so well while incorporating them into a thriller made this book even better. It wasn’t a typical gasping thriller with a ton of plot twists but it built up the story perfectly and made you care deeply about both of the characters before throwing in small plot twists here and there that concluded into a big plot twist at the end that I didn’t see coming.
Excellent writing, great character building, and great research on mental illnesses, I highly, highly recommend this book.
*Many thanks to St. Martins Press for the gifted copy for my honest review!*
CANT GO WRONG WITH SALLY HEPWORTH!
What a phenomenal writer. Her books suck you in and you just can’t predict what’s going to happen, even though you have an idea.
Thank you!
This book was a roller coaster, constantly changing my opinion of the different characters (except for Fern and Wally who I loved the whole way through!). With so many twists and turns, this story kept me invested and I cannot wait to read more from Sally Hepworth.
