I loved, loved, loved this book! I read The Mother-in-Law and The Family Next Door and greatly enjoyed those, so I was super excited when I learned this was coming out and was available to request on NetGalley. I could not put this book down. What a mind f***. The story was great, the character development was top notch, the twist was amazing...overall just a great book. Highly recommended. Thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for the ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book was so good! I stayed up late reading it and woke up during the night worrying about one of the characters. They were such believable characters in this fascinating story! The sibling relationship was interesting and the sensory issues were enlightening. I have nothing but good things to say about this book. And it wasn’t filled with profanity—a rarity these days. I can’t wait to read more from this author!

Finally got around to reading this book. Took a while to get into. Once it got going, it was fine. Nice twist for twin sisters, Fern and Rose. Rose’s memories are so vivid and ring true. Fern’s. Entail illness is written with a good understanding. I don’t know that I would have ever picked up this book. It was a good read with a plot that kept you reading.

This book was fantastic. It was the first Sally Hepworth book I have ever had the pleasure of reading and it will not be the last. I am going to look up all her others as soon as I am done writing this review. Riveting story told in the point of view of Fern writing in first person and Rose-but for Rose we are reading from her journal excerpts to get her point of view. Unlikeable characters and you don't really know what is what until you start to get the gist of what is really going on here and it is diabolical actually. Descriptive writing that does not drag-- I won't give away anything else. Please read this book and find out yourself.

I've read and enjoyed many books by Hepworth. This is another fine example of a solid psychological thriller. The author has a way of quickly pulling the reader in, and she keeps them turning the pages and guessing. The characters are well drawn and realistic. I particularly enjoyed Fern. There were a few predictable points, but overall, there were enough twists to keep me engaged.

I liked the twin aspect to this story, as it's not something I commonly find in books. Their relationship is complex and explored in a way that the reader, particularly those with sisters, can identify with. The ending was the perfect wrap up for the story. The pacing was a bit uneven at times, but it came together later in the story. I look forward to reading future books from Hepworth.

Rating: 4.5/5⭐️⁣⁣⁣⁣
Rationale: Sally Hepworth has quickly become one of my go-to authors because she always delivers on the depth of her characters
⁣⁣⁣⁣
𝗪𝐡𝐨 𝐈’𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐭𝐨: Fans of twisted upbringings a la Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine
⁣⁣⁣⁣
𝗪𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞𝐝: The story is told from both perspectives of twins Fern and Rose, and I really love the differences between the two. I loved how the narrative shifted back and forth not just between the sisters, but between the past and the present giving fuller depth to the story. I find that most thrillers lack emotional connection to the characters and that is why I LOVE Sally’s books—I actually felt invested in the characters, which added to my enjoyment of it.

As was the case with The Mother-In-Law, this book was so much more than I thought it was going to be—it is a staggering family drama: part mystery, part romance, part exploration of the bond between family and where to draw the line. As the layers are peeled to reveal the rest of the story, that is where you will find Hepworth's brilliant story telling and exceptional writing. It is fast-paced, tension filled, and will keep you flipping pages.
⁣⁣
𝗪𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈 𝐝𝐢𝐝𝐧’𝐭 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞: Not a “dislike” but more of me setting expectations for my thriller lovers: were there “twists” that were predictable? Yes. Did I care? No. I found the characters and the story so engaging that I don’t mind being able to figure out some of the Easter eggs along the way. This wasn’t a crazy twisting psychological thriller, but it is a family drama that’s sincerely captivating.

Rose and Fern are twins. But they are nothing alike. Rose is short with dark hair, and Fern is tall and blonde like their mother. Rose is the responsible one. Fern is the forgetful one, the one with the sensory issues. Rose is married and wants very much to have a child. Fern is content with being a librarian. They will do anything for each other, or so it seems at first. After all, Rose has kept Fern’s terrible secret all these years. However, Fern soon discovers that Rose has some secrets of her own.

I love psychological thrillers, and this is one of the very best I have ever read! The wonderfully realistic and sometimes exceptionally endearing characters effectively take the reader through a maze of twists and turns of misconceptions, misrepresentations, and many, many secrets. Eventually, the reader’s world is turned upside down! It is great fun! This finely crafted psychological thriller is the best!

Sincere thanks to netgalley for the free copy of this book in exchange for an unbiased review. This one cannot be missed!

This was my first book by this author and I found her writing to be incredibly enjoyable to read. This book was the perfect blend of psychological suspense mixed with domestic drama. I finished the book in a day just because it was such a good story. I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants a turn the page book that you can't stand to put down.

I love Sally Hepworth and usually find her books to be really captivating page turners that are always super entertaining for me. She’s an excellent author, one of my go to most trusted ones in fact, but there was something missing in her latest for me unfortunately.

Things started off strong for me, I loved the sister dynamic and was pulled in instantly. Where u think things went wrong for me was me guessing where it was all heading very early on. Like before 25 percent of the book early on and of course my suspicions weren’t confirmed until the very end which made for a pretty long and tedious wait for me. I kept hoping I was wrong and things weren’t going in what I thought was an obvious direction but I was right. Sigh. Look, if I guess the twist in a thriller it just ruins it for me, plain and simple. This isn’t bad by any means, just wasn’t great for me but I’ve already talked to a few friends who loved it and never saw anything coming. Take this review with a grain of salt, maybe you’ll be blindsided. Especially true if you’re a fan of the author, she’s really good, here’s hoping she can trick me with her next book.

Twin sisters are supposed to be as close as, well...two peas in a pod! Right!?👭🏽

At least that’s the way it worked out for twins Fern and Rose. With Rose taking on the responsibility of looking after Fern. She has sensory issues that have consumed her life. And a past that Rose isn’t about to let her forget.

Sisters! Oy! Could I write an encyclopedia-size book on that subject!
But I digress…

For these two, the question is when does a functional loving ‘sisterly’ relationship stop being healthy? Well you might want to ask these two ladies!

Though somewhat predictable, (I had most of the book figured out nearly immediately) I still enjoyed every bit of the ride.

Sally Hepworth writes a highly engaging read you won’t easily be able to put down. Certainly true for me!

For a light, engaging thriller that delves into family dysfunction...look no further!

A buddy read with Susanne that we both really enjoyed!

4.25-4.5 STARS

Twin sisters, Rose & Fern, are as different as night and day—physically, socially, and emotionally. Even their shared upbringing is perceived in dramatically different ways. And whereas Fern struggles with a sensory processing disorder, Rose is a diabetic who adopted the role of her sister’s “protector” since early childhood.

“The Good Sister” is a twisty, psychological thriller that unfolds slowly, alternating between the past and present—told through both Fern’s POV and through a series of journal entries written by Rose. Boasting intriguing characters and an enthralling premise, this story pulled me in right from the very start and held me captive right up until the very end. And while the ending did not come as a complete surprise, I enjoyed every crazy step along the way.

This is my first Sally Hepwork book, but it definitely won’t be my last!

Fern, our narrator, is on the autism spectrum. Rose, her sister, is always taking care of Fern, who seems unable to live independently. They are byproducts of a traumatic upbringing and engaged in a co-dependent relationship, which seems altruistic. But what's seemingly obvious on first blush is not what is really going on.

I've read a fair amount of Sally Hepworth, so I know to expect some twists and turns. It's a page turner, for certain. I didn't love Fern, but I think that was purposeful from the author.

It took me a bit to become fully interested in the story line, but once that happened, I wanted to pick it up frequently. I enjoyed the characters, Fern and Wally, very much. At times, there was an Amelia Bedelia vibe, which I thought was charming.

I have friends who are twins and this book totally captures the unique, weird, beautiful relationship shared by twins.

This book has a lot of twist and turners right up to the last page. I loved this book and the way the authour writes. It is about twin sisters and how one takes care of the other one. But does the other sister really need taken care of. It shows how you can be raised in the same household and have the same experiences but how you view them is very different.

This is a much read if you like mysteries!

Sally Hepworth has done it again which I thought was impossible after The Mother-In-Law. The Good Sister is a tale of twin sisters, Fern and Rose, and how far each will go to protect the other. Or do they? Nothing is as it appears with this book. Fern is the twin that has sensory issues, and Rose feels the need to protect her from everything and everyone. Is Rose protective out of love or vengeance? How far is too far when it comes to protecting those we love? What starts out as a slow plot quickly takes a turn for a domestic drama that is filled with twists, revenge, and the ultimate betrayel. This one gets a 4/5 for me. Don't give up on this one as it starts slow, but it will quickly leave you stunned.
