An interesting psychological thriller involving sisters, one of which appears to have Asperger’s syndrome. Fern works at a library but has sensory overload and can’t function well when there is a lot of noise or bright lights. She meets a seemingly homeless man at her library and they strike up a relationship. Her sister Rose is unable to have a child and Fern wants to help her. The story is told by Rose and Fern with very different memories of their childhood and especially their views of their mother. The portrait of an Asperger adult is well written. The character of Wally (Rocco) as Fern’s boyfriend is well developed. The twin’s mother is a portrait of a dysfunctional family. The ending is somewhat surprising but very satisfying.

This was a great domestic thriller! It kept me guessing the entire read. The characters were very well developed. Wonderfully done!

This book was fantastic, but it is definitely to be expected from this author! She has a way with a plot, where even if you know the key player in something it doesn't all unravel quite as you would expect it to. That's what makes it great!
This book follows two sisters, Fern and Rose, and it goes from flashbacks
in Rose's diary, to their present day life. Rose is an interior designer who is in the middle of a separation with her husband Owen, and who is desperate to get her marriage back together, and also to get pregnant, which she has been unable to achieve thus far. One of her biggest problems is watching out for her twin sister Fern. Fern has been a handful since they were young. She has a ton of sensory issues, and this causes a lot of problems in her day to day life, which leads to Rose having to constantly come to her rescue. Rose can barely live her life, and she definitely can never count on Fern, who is always messing things up! Or is she? Who is the real problem here, Rose or Fern?
The only way to find out is too get the book, and don't worry it's definitely a page turner!

Thank you netgalley and publishers for gifting me A copy of The Good Sister in exchange for my honest review
The Good Sister was a very emotional read. If you have read any of author Sally Hepworth’s previous works, you are familiar with her style of story telling, which I absolutely love! She tells the story from each of the main character’s point of view throughout the entire book. This keeps the reader guessing as to how the story will end!
This story is about two sisters, twins to be exact who are very different from one another. One is married and seemingly has her life together and the other is more socially challenged alongy with other things. This story is about the precarious relationship between siblings, but more specifically twin sisters. There are sacrifices, understanding, betrayals, and understanding that come about throughout the pages. This is a masterfully written novel that I recommend anyone who has a sister read! Bravo!

I would read anything by this author! Her stories are THAT good!! Although I did figure out the twist a little more than halfway through I was still intrigued by the plot and had to see the wrap up. Automatic author for me every time. Thanks for the small panic attacks I had while reading.

An emotional roller coaster with character Fern and her unique situation. I thoroughly enjoyed this book though watching the abuse was awful it added to the overall characters.

Twins Fern & Rose are raised by a manipulative mother whose ideas on child raising often defy society norms. Fern suffers from a sensory overload condition that leaves her frequently unable to 'read' and relate to people. Rose jumps in to protect Fern and to teach her how to respond to society. Fern feels beholding to Rose for her years of caring. Roes can't get pregnant so Fern decides to have a baby and give it to Rose & Owen, Rose's husband. Nothing turns out to be this simple.

Awesome book!!!! Wish I could give more than 5 stars!! I loved the characters in this story! I felt protective of them and so interested in their lives; there were times when my stomach hurt because I was worried about them! Sally Hepworth has crafted another lovely and engaging story. Put this one on your to-read shelf! 😘
Thanks to NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this ARC!

Thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for providing me with an advanced copy of this book.
I absolutely love Sally Hepworth's storytelling. This was unlike other thrillers I've read in the past - which I appreciated. There were parts in the end that wrapped up a little too quickly/neat for me but, all in all, I read this quickly. The relationship between Fern and Wally was really sweet - I'd read a follow up of their relationship, for sure. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys drama, mystery and family relationships with well-developed characters.

I really enjoyed Sally Hepworth's novel, The Mother-in-Law and so was looking forward to reading this one too. I wasn't disappointed - this was a quick, enjoyable read with a little more depth than your usual thriller.

After winning this amazing book in a giveaway from the author herself Sally Hepworth I was beyond excited!! I loved her previous book The Mother In Law. This book is told in two POVs by twin sisters Rose and Fern. Rose begins to see a therapist after having fertility problems that led to difficulties in her marriage. Her therapist advises her to start a journal to help release the emotions she keeps bottled inside that stem from her troubled childhood. The diary entries reveal that something tragic happened in the twins childhood that led to a cover up and they have kept it a secret. We meet Fern she is on the spectrum of Asperger’s syndrome, sensitive to lights and sound voices and touch. She’s a librarian and she loves books and I couldn’t help but just love her character. Fern and Rose are extremely close they have dinner multiple times a week, and Rose is there for Fern when she needs her. When Fern discovers that Rose cannot conceive a baby she decides to get pregnant and give the child to her sister. She meets a man at the library who she calls Wally but his real name is Rocco and the book takes off from there. As we read more and dive deeper we soon see the cracks forming and we begin to wonder is Rose as caring and protective as she seems or is she manipulative ? Is Fern what she appears or does she hide what she truly is? What really happened in their childhood? What happens when one sister wants freedom? I don’t want to give to much away but I give this book five stars. This book will grab you and send you down a twisted trail and have you questioning your own family motives!

I really enjoyed this book. Character development was good. The plot was very interesting. Not a lot of typos.

This novel is as twisty and fast-paced as other Hepworth novels with another storyline woven in about their past.
One sister, Fern, had done something terrible when the girls were younger, and Rose has always protected her from those events. Now that Rose wants a child, but has issues conceiving, Fern will stop at nothing to help her sister get the child she has always wanted.
I would recommend this novel to anyone who loves a good thriller.

The Good Sister is about twin sisters who are not identical in any way. They were very close growing up and remain close as adults. Rose has taken care of Fern for most of their lives. Fern has sensory issues and likes her days to be routine with no changes. Rise is always there to take care of her when she runs into problems. This book has many twists and turns from love to hate and lies. I really end
Joyed it. This is my second book by this author and I can not wait for her next one!

Sally Hepworth has quickly become such a favorite author of mine! Terrific story, compelling characters, likeable even! Twists, turns and lots of secrets. Nothing disturbing or violent, which I've come to appreciate. Always look forward to reading her books

A truly harrowing tale...superb work by the author. Things are not always as they seem.
Many thanks to St. Martin’s Press and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

For those of us with sisters, it’s easy to relate to a sister who tries to control us and then at times tries to protect us. It seems Rose was protective of her sensory-sensitive sister Fern. She seemed to try to take care of her. Things began to change as the story went on. I never imagined the twisted plot that would come about when Fern began making her own choices and distancing herself from her controlling sister. What a great read!

I absolutely loved (!) Sally Hepworth's first novel, The Mother in Law, so I suspected that I would enjoy reading her second novel, The Good Sister. Holy cow - not only did I enjoy it, I thought it was better than the first! Well done Ms. Hepworth!

We are first introduced to Fern and Rose and it becomes apparent that Fern is somewhere "on the spectrum." I add quotations because it's never stated but implied. She leads a very simple life, works very quietly in the library, avoids bright lights, crowds and loud noises and this is before COVID so, you know, she's a little different. Hmmm, she also sounds a LOT like me. Her sister Rose, on the other hand, is presented as the very responsible twin. We're not to trust Fern, of course, because of her issues and Rose has to do so much to care for Fern. Their life has been difficult, their mother was, well, also difficult so the two of them are very co-dependent. Rose is unable to have children and Fern gets the bright idea to have a child for Rose if she only can find a sperm donor who will agree. Little did the two sisters realize that Ferns decision to have a baby would turn their lives upside down!

Oh gosh, so many innuendoes, so many twists and subtle hints and still I wasn't sure until the end how this one was going to turn out! I truly loved this one think you will as well. It's domestic noir at its finest!!

I could not put this book down! This is the first book I have read by Sally Hepworth and I will definitely be looking for more of her books. Rose and Fern are twin sisters who may very well be too close! This story unfolds as your hear thoughts from each sister. Rose the responsible protector and Fern the socially awkward quirky sister who needs a protector....or does she?! There are so many twists and turns and truly unpredictable moments, I was up late because I had to see what happened next. I loved Fern with her candor and loved watching her grow in confidence. This is one of the best books I have read this year and I will be recommending this to my friends.

Thank you Netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. Wow! What a book!
