Review of four-chapter teaser. The cupcakes sound delicious, and the stress and strains of opening a new business are well-described.
I found it difficult to empathize with the lead female character. Blaire seems privileged, combative, hyper-sensitive, and whiny. The author's intent may be to show her growth during the book, but during the first four chapters, there was little that made me want to spend time with Blaire. The lead male character was two-dimensional - a good-looking guy who shows interest with juvenile pranks and teasing. Their banter was jarring and uncomfortable.
From these few chapters, I probably would not continue reading - but the cupcakes do sound delicious!
Many thanks to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This preview makes this new novel look cute and worth a read. Would love to read the whole book when available.
This is my kind of cupcake!
Thank you NetGalley, author and publisher for the opportunity to preview the first 4 chapters.
I am desperate to read more of this. It was such a good teaser, I cannot stop thinking about what happens next. I am so on edge, I am on my way to preorder this book. Like RIGHT THIS MOMENT.
The book title seems to be suitable for the story within the covers. It is about Blaire who is following her dream and opening her storefront selling original cupcakes and drinks in unicorn-shaped glasses. To make her life not so easy, she finds out (in a not so pleasant way) that there is a pub opening right next door. Of course, the owner of the pub is a super sexy but extremely annoying guy named Ronan who happens to bring the worst out of her. So that’s how their enemies to lovers trope start.
I love how quirky and cute the heroine is. I love the annoying and creative neighbor, who definitely knows how to flirt (unfortunately the heroine is too riled up to notice it). I am looking forward to reading how they hate and love and hate each other. I noticed that each chapter starts with Blair’s name on top of it, so fingers crossed, that there will be chapters from Ronan’s POV as well. I would love to read what he thinks about all this.
As a cherry on top of the cupcake is bright-colored super cute cover. Now I really need to find some cupcakes to eat.
These simple covers with the bright colours are becoming popular at the moment and they definitely do catch the eye. But what about what's within the pages? This was a perfect example of a book that I should read before simply just buying because of its cover. Surprisingly, this one took me a little while to get into. I don't think the writing style was the write style for me, as it was this that originally made it had for me to get into the story. I couldn't really connect to the character and therefore the story and would've simply have been a book that would've either have stayed on my shelf for a while, or one that I would've eventually have gotten rid of. I had to push myself just to finish the sampler I had, thanks to NetGalley, so that does not scream good things for me about the reading the rest of the book.
Kiss My Cupcake is the latest romance by bestselling Helena Hunting, I was thrilled for the opportunity to preview the first four chapters of the book. I really enjoyed Blaire's character and am definitely interested in reading the book in its entirety. The tension between Blaire and the man who opened his bar next door to her new bakery is palpable and I'm excited to see what developed between them.
This enemies-to-lovers romance book is too sweet to miss!
Many thanks to Forever Publishing and NetGalley for the advance preview.
Ughhhhhh. All I have to say is that this 4 chapter teaser has me wanting to 1) eat cupcakes and 2) preorder the copy. I am so excited to read another enemies to lovers trope; come on, who doesn’t like a Helena Hunting novel??
Blaire and Axes’ tension is felt right away and oh boy, I think it will get steamy soon enough!
Can’t wait to finish reading this! In the meantime-I’ll have to just dream about hunky Axe!
This seems interesting enough, but I'm not overly impressed. The main character seems to be quite privileged, and she's really irrationally pissed off by her neighbour. The way he's described is a bit overdone, too. However the setup in these first few chapters does seem interesting, with the two very different stores opening up next to each other, family issues, and a potential competition. I enjoyed the social media and business references and the cupcakes and drinks seem delicious. It's probably not for me but I think many will enjoy this one.
Blaire is opening a cupcake shop and Ronan is opening a bar next door. The first few chapters in the sampler set up a great base for this enemies to lovers story. I have had this book on preorder, Helena Hunting is an auto buy author for me, and now after reading the sample I am more excited than before. This has so much potential to be incredibly charming.
I think that the other external struggles that are explored in this book will be an enchanting addition to the romance and add some tension for Blaire as she examines her life and relationships. I adore the enemies to lovers trope so I am always up to read something in the genre.
The sample gave a great feel and I believe it will be a 4 or 5 star read for me.
This looks so cute and funny! I can't wait to read the full-length story when it comes out! I definitely need some cupcakes in the meantime!
This is just of the preview excerpt!
Game on!
Anything by Helena Hunting usually makes me laugh but naming a cupcake shop Buttercream and Booze is the best one.
Blaire Calloway has put everything she had into opening her new café/bakery with a partner but when Ronan Knight opened an axe throwing/bar on the same day giving her customers coupons for his bar, the battle was on!
This preview was super fun and delicious! I was definitely craving some cupcakes and lumberjerks by the end. Can't wait for the full publication!
I enjoyed these first four chapters. There was a lot going on but was easy to follow. I'm not sure if it's just the preview but there are some sentences that aren't spaced. I've read them as if Blaire is excited/annoyed etc as she comes across following the situations. I would love to read the whole book.
I'm glad to have gotten this preview because this book is not for me. The main characters seem unlikely, boring, and mainstream. One of the things I've liked about Hunting's previous books was the more interesting characters, but this seems very formulaic. I didn't like the unnecessary cussing, the banter wasn't witty, and I just overall wanted more. Maybe someone else would be a better fit for this book but I don't think I'll be reading it further.
So excited for this book to come out in a few weeks! Helena Hunting always weaves together a good story and these four chapters really had me invested!
This snip of a book was great. The characters are flawed and likable. I can't wait to finish this book.
This was a super cute glimpse into the full novel! The characters were great and I am excited to see more of their relationship. A wonderful introduction that leaves the reader wanting more! Will definitely be picking up the full book once it is released.
Loved this introduction to the book and can't wait to read the full novel.
Great characters and looking forward to seeing what happens next.
This sneak peek was really cute! I can't wait to get my hands on the whole book when it comes out in August!!! I'm a big fan of Helena Hunting's books, and I don't think this one will be any different!!
The excerpt itself seems to make it sound super cute and funny. The cute banter between Ronan and Blaire will definitely make the readers laugh out for sure. Blaire is this quirky cupcake shop owner and Ronan is the extremely hot bar owner who keeps coming across her store constantly and Blaire has this enmity towards him set so deep already.
It definitely is going to be a fun ride for them from here and am eager to read more. I already feel that the author doesn't disappoint with this. I will definitely need some gourmet cupcakes right now!
5 star Kiss My Cupcake A PREVIEW Chapter 1 - 4 by Helena Hunting
A stand alone novel from the very talented Helena Hunting and if the sample from NetGalley I received is anything to go by, then this will be a great story.
In the first four chapters Ms. Hunting wove a story that drew me in and held me captivated.
The chemistry between them was intense and you could feel the sizzle in the air. I loved how all in Dax was when he stepped up and put his sister Emmie and her needs before all else; what a swoon worthy man. It was also heartwarming to see the relationship between Kailyn and Emmie develop.
I love Ms. Hunting's style of writing and I found it easy to relate to Claire and Ronan. I cannot wait to read this book in it’s entirety.
I was received an ARC of the first four chapters of Kiss My Cupcake through the publisher and Netgalley
