A love story between a vampire and a werewolf.
They are really cute with a lot of inside jokes and I think the story hints at the compatibility and tolerance that naturally follows love.
The drawings were also catchy and the book easy to read.
I’m glad I downloaded this on NetGalley on the whim
Well, this was bloody adorable! (Heh.. heh.. pun intended) I wasn't overly familiar to this artist prior to being urged to read it by my husband. I'm a huge vampire fan, Buffy the Vampire Slayer is a lifestyle, and this graphic novel was the perfect amount of cheesy nostalgia with modern jokes.
Firstly, the artwork was incredibly cute. I had to fight the urge to screenshot so many funny sections to send to people. It had the perfect amount of cutesy while still staying in the almost gothic-like feel.
I wasn't expecting the script to be as humorous as the drawings, but here we are. I laughed a lot, especially as the writer really took advantage of every dog-like pun possible. Jimmy and Elise were perfect together, and this is now a ship I will go down on.
Thank you to #NetGalley for the ARC.
I really enjoyed this, and it was frankly, too short! I plan to reread this, and saver each panel. Elsie and Jimmy are just too adorable in their relationship, and the humor is appropriate considering the vampire/werewolf relation. An easy book to sink your teeth into.
This was a short and cute read. It is not highly complex, but there is something beautiful about its simplicity. I liked that it focused on the couple's intimate interactions - the day-to-day routines, the silly jokes, the weird habits; rather than on how they appear to other people. These made the book fun read. The book reads like a montage in a lifetime movie, so it seems like it's missing a major part of the overall story but I guess that was the intent. I enjoyed it nonetheless.
Thanks to Andrews McMeel Publishing for providing me with an ARC via NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.
Really enjoyed this new dark comedy comic from Sarah Anderson about a love story between a vampire and a werewolf. Thanks to Netgalley for the eARC!
Fangs is a graphic novel that even people who don’t like graphic novels can love. Black and white, simple yet stylish graphics tell the sweet, funny, quirky story of Ellie and vampire and Jimmy the werewolf.
I found myself smiling the entire time I read this and even chuckling out loud a time or two. Ellie is the kind of gorgeous yet snarky vampire chick I wish I could be, and I certainly wouldn’t complain about having Jimmy around, fur, mud, and all.
A little bit of romance and humor is something we could all use these days, so be sure to order your gorgeous copy of Fangs, release date September 1, 2020.
I have loved everything that Sarah Andersen does, Fangs was no exception. I jumped on the chance to read this one, my Halloween needs start around the end of July and this called my name. Fangs is so well done, the illustrations are a different style and the characters are so loveable. I laughed out loud so many times reading this, I will absolutely be buying a physical copy ASAP, I really loved it that much. Bravo to Sarah for another phenomenal work!
An instant favorite of mine! I was really looking for it and wasn't disappointed. This little book is fantastic entertainment, specially for those who love fantasy and folklore. Can't wait to grab a physical copy of it. Tremendously funny!
I received this as a free advanced reading copy from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.
Like many others, I'm a fan of Sarah Andersen's other comic, Sarah's Scribbles. But this one is a completely different monster. (Get it? Monster? Vampires and Werewolves? I slay me. Get it! Slay?)
Fangs follows Elsie the Vampire and Jimmy the werewolf and the romantic relationship they form.
This is a collection of short comics that do have a small, easy to follow, ongoing story but can technically still be read out of order and still be enjoyable.
Fangs is a lot of fun and it's really cute. It relies on vampire and werewolf tropes but not in a lazy or contrived way. The tropes are used for a wonderful amount of jokes ranging from cute and easy to quite clever (and still cute).
The art in Fangs still has a style that's quite clearly Sarah Andersen, though it's much cleaner than Sarah's Scribbles which has a very purposeful scribble style.
Fangs is a fun, cute, and enjoyable romance. There is enough of an ongoing story to endear the characters to me but it's not so in depth that if too much time passes until the next volume, I won't get lost or confused.
Fangs is good. Read it.
I love Sarah Andersen works, so I was excited about her new book.
This is a lovely, funny book, with a cute but extraordinary couple. I love to see their relationship is developing.
I would read more about them!
This was so darn cute. Jimmy and Elsie are so cute as a couple. The pun intended jokes were delightful and it's been really long that I read some cute and good book on vampires and werewolves. I read this for a readathon and I'm glad I picked it up. I loved the art style. The monochrome was in tune with the vamp- leprechaun world. The shades were awesome. I highly recommend it
This was a bit of a change in terms or artistic style from the author of Sarah’s Scribbles. Now, fuse that charm with the adorable relationship dynamics of Catana Comics, add a werewolf-vampire love story, & you’ve got fangs. If you, like me, enjoy vampires, werewolves, web comics, lovey-doves vignettes, and/or goth girls (and the werewolf boyfriend is definitely cute too!) then you are the ideal reader for this book. I will likely buy a hard copy when it comes out and it’s definitely going to be a gift for someone at some point. Fun little read.
Thank you NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for providing me with an ARC of Fangs in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
The Gist
I hear about Anderson’s new comic story from her Instagram account. She posted weekly – I think – snippets of the whole story until it was complete on her website.
I meant to keep track of them, but lost track of time. So, when I saw the entire story was available for request on NetGalley, I jumped at the chance.
I enjoyed all of Anderson’s previous work and was curious what she would come up this time.
The Details
A love story between a vampire and a werewolf. And no, there is no hint of the teen angst or drama we have become so familiar with from other, previous stories featuring these legendary creatures.
I like the minimalist approach, so to speak. There were clean lines and not too much shading to overcrowd the frames. The eye was directed towards the main point of the story in each frame.
It is said that a picture is worth a thousand words and in the case of this comic story, the author perfectly accomplished it.
I would catch myself looking at certain frames, certain pictures and say to myself “yes, that captures the emotion/message impeccably”.
The Verdict
Overall, this was such a cute story, I adored it. Call me greedy, but I just wished it could have been a little longer.
Another great story by the amazing Sarah Anderson.
This was so cute! I rarely read graphic novels, I think because I prefer to imagine things myself and get distracted by the imagery instead of enjoying it. However, I'd seen snippets of this one online and had to read it, and I'm so happy I did! Each part had me smirking, snickering, and even throwing out an occasional 'aw'. Jimmy and Elsie are perfect together and so playful with their differences, and you can imagine how it reflects the differences of a non-supernatural relationship and makes you consider how one can be light-hearted, playful and considerate with their partner. Overall, this graphic novel was funny, witty, adorable, and well done! I'd love to see Sarah Andersen give us another supernatural couple.
Tale as old as time - boy meets girl, boy and girl fall in love, then the fun of a real life relationship ensues. Only this time, the boy is a werewolf, the girl is a vampire, and there's so much more than just cohabitation issues.
Um!?! I loved this and will absolutely be purchasing a copy. The story, the illustrations. Perfection. So darn cute!
This is the cutest thing I’ve read in a while. Elsie, the vampire, and Jimmy, the werewolf, are relationship goals. Every page made me smile.
I’ve already read a bunch of these are they’ve been floating about the web for some time. But it was awesome to read them all in order.

The Sarah’s Scribbles girl as a three-hundred-year-old vampire.
Elsie/Vamp is a three-hundred-year-old, recently vegan vampire. Jimmy is a scruffy werewolf in search of love. He communes with nature and wants to have a baby; she worships Satan and blisters under the sun. Can these two crazy forever-kids make it work? Probably not – eternity is L-O-N-G – but the premise makes for a rather fun and quirky comic strip.
FANGS is brought to you by Sarah Andersen, the same ball of anxiety, depression, and self-doubt – oops, I mean genius! – behind SARAH'S SCRIBBLES, and it shows. Vamp almost feels like she could be the Sarah’s Scribbles girl, bitten by Dracula and left to marinate in earthen society for several centuries. The jokes are admittedly kind of cutesy and cliche, but I dug them just the same. Elsie and Jimmy are adorable together, and the star-crossed (yet weirdly simpatico) nature of their relationship provides plenty of fodder for Andersen’s campy one-liners.
As per the usual, I just wish the book was a little longer. 77 pages seems a little slim for 500+ years of combined life experiences, no?
A funny and dark humor romance of the best combination of werewolf and vampire! I did like the humor of the meet-cute and the relationship. For those that like a bit of sarcasm with their graphic novels, you will enjoy this! The only thing I wanted was more to keep on reading!
