I absolutely adored this book, I slurrrped it up in one sitting. You made me fall head over heels in love with jimmy and vamp.
I really enjoyed reading this one! It was a really quick and humorous light read that made me laugh out loud. It’s less of a story and more a collection of comic strips but I enjoyed that about it. I also loved the simple art style which wasn’t over complicated.
A laugh-out-loud funny comic collection about the pros and cons of a loving relationship between a vampire and a werewolf. I loved it! Sarah Andersen is one of my favourite web comics, and she came through again with this one! 5 STARS!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me a much appreciated digital copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review.
This was incredibly sweet and funny!
I've been reading Sarah Andersen's comics ever since my time on Tumblr and I always found them relatable and hilarious. When I saw this graphic novel on Netgalley and ran to get it and finished it in a matter of an hour. That's probably the one thing I didn't like about it, it was so short.
The story was full of adorable moments that had me giggling and squealing, like when Vamp first saw Jimmy as a werewolf (that panel is one of my favorites) or when Jimmy tells Elsie he loves her. I DIED it was so touching and cute. These are mostly 2 or 4-panel comics but we learn so much from the characters in so little.
Since we follow their relationship, we see a lot of well-known stereotypes for werewolves and vampires (like burning under the sun or at the touch of silver) and it's great to see how they make it work with their differences. The illustrations of them taking a walk always made me smile because Jimmy would be on jeans and flannel while Elsie was on victorian (?) attire with an umbrella to cover the sun, it was a way to show their contrast.
There is not much that I can say but this was definitely a precious comic, the characters are very charming and funny (they have a lot of puns omg). And I sure hope there is more in the future, I would love to see more of this amazing couple.
Quick and funny read, Sarah entertain us with a collection of vignettes telling the love story of a werewolf and a vampire.
There’s not really a plot to follow, just single pages that capture little moments of life, some are cute, some funny and some doesn’t seems to have much sense out of contest.
Overall is a nice light read for the busy day
An adorable story of Elsie, a 300 year old vampire, and Jimmy, a werewolf. We get to see how the couple met and fell for each other, how they get to know each others' daily habits and quirks, and how much their affection grows. I loved how elegant and beautiful in a non-cluttered way Sarah Anderson's artwork is.
Fangs by Sarah Andersen is a love story between vampire and werewolf. The comics are wonderful and funny and so cute. A must if you are a fan of any of Sarah Andersen’s work.
From the concept--a vampire and a werewolf fall in love and romance ensues--I assumed this was going have a plotline, character development, and a structure. But that's not really the case. I had no idea that was a webcomic, and came out amused but disappointed. Most of that disappointment is my own fault, but not all of it.
So, the plot. Fangs chronicles the meeting and subsequent life together of an energetic vampire girl named Elsie and the more stoic werewolf Jimmy. That's about it. Most pages of this are composed of four-to-five panel mini comics that build up to a vampire or werewolf-based punchline, like Elsie asking about Jimmy's type and correcting she means his blood type, or Elsie's silver ring touching Jimmy and slightly burning him. There's also some full-page illustrations. And yes, eventually they do make fun of Twilight.
The art is probably the best part; it's really good. Elsie and Jimmy's designs are great, and despite everything being in grayscale, the characters are easy to pick out. The panels are easy to follow.
The characters have decent chemistry together once their relationship progresses. I liked both of them.
The jokes are not bad. They're amusing, and a few of them got a mental chuckle out of me. But they're not hilarious, as most of them are, again, punchlines with a few panels of build-up.
My main problem (which is my fault, but it seems like a few other people also had this problem) is that I was expecting a full story and got a collection of shorter stories instead. Elsie and Jimmy do not talk each other through their unique problems. Despite having their pasts brought up more than a couple of times, they do not go into any interesting stories about them. And while we do see them doing cute things together, none of the shorts were long enough for me to get the sense that the two protagonists were really bonding together. I was actually confused for the first 30% of the book since there was no indication that each page was a separate occurrence and not part of a continuous story.
It's nice, and if you read this on tapas you can get through it quickly, so it might be worth your time. But I wish this was more in-depth than what it ended up being.
Loved everything from beginning to end, I just love whatever Sarah puts out into the world, it was incredibly funny and adorable, can't wait to read more books from her.
This was a super fast read with a cute story. I enjoyed the glimpses into the lives of the vampire and the werewolf. There were some really sweet moments, and some laugh-out-loud funny parts, too. My only complaint is that I wish it was longer. Eleven minutes after I opened the pdf, I was done. I can’t wait to get the print version.
I follow the author on instagram and i love her little comics they are funny and the design is cute, a saw a few images of this one and i was intrigued.
This one tell us the story of a vamp girl and werewolf boy who fall in love, and it show us how they relationship grow up, and how they learn to trust each other.
Besides this love story we have some funny moments, with some unique quotes that i have to rewrite in my notebook.
One thing that enjoy its the design of the character, they are simple but cute, and the story despite not being linear its really good, its short but good.
For me this comic talk about acceptance, to accept your partner just as is, to support them.
Seriously cute interactions between a vampire and a werewolf!
I love the navigation of everyday challenges like drinking coffee when the sun is up, pointing your ex-boyfriends in the graveyard, nightly strolls with a were sized dog without a leash!
I am amazed by how Sarah captured both characters and her interpretation of their relationship..
Must read for lovers of paranormal, fantasy and romance !
Not what I'm used to from Sarah Andersen, but that turned out to be okay. This was adorable. Basically it's scenes in the life of a vampire and werewolf in love. There are lots of cute jokes and the relationship develops in a very sweet way.
This was absolutely hilarious and adorable! Jimmy and Elsie were so funny together and I Loved their banter. The art style is simple but yet really fun. I love all of the jokes and different references as well. This was a really fun and cute quick read and I definitely recommend it and will be picking up a physical copy!
I don't have a whole lot to say about this book. It was cute. I liked the two characters and think their romance was cute but there is not much to this graphic novel. It's a very quick read though so if you need something cute and quick check this out.
Fangs by Sarah Andersen is a graphic novel that tells the story of Elsie, a vampire, and how she meets and starts a relationship with Jimmy, a werewolf. While it first it seems as if the relationship is doomed due to their extreme differences, they bond over their shared similarities and emotional support.
This is a darkly funny, sweet story of two people finally finding their person and what that entails. Andersen delves into the mundane details of life all while subverting the typical horror tropes. How does a vampire take a walk with her boyfriend? What happens when your vampire girlfriend finds you after your werewolf change for the first time? And, of course, tackling the age old question, what to have for dinner.
The art style is a departure from Andersen's previous works in Sarah's Scribbles, but it shows a depth of range that she has only shown briefly up to this point. The content is more adult as well, but it works and as other previous reviewers have stated, I would put it at PG-13. While there is no hint right now of a sequel, I would will hope that one is coming soon because I want to know how Elsie and Jimmy are doing.
Note: I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via NetGalley and the publishers.
Thank you for the e-ARC, Netgalley! I'm so so so happy I read this one!
This is the cutest thing I've read in a long, long time! So cute, so funny, and such amazing illustrations! I especially loved the Twilight panel, but I can't point out more because ALL of them are awesome! I love Sarah Andersen and have for a long time, and this book is another in the series of her comics that made me lose my heart to her yet again. OMG! I cannot wait for this book to come out so that I can lay hands on a physical copy! LOVE!
(Please excuse the excessive exclamations. I'm just excited. XD)
This was such a cute comic. I loved every second of it!! It was wholesome but with a refreshing take on vampires x werewolves. This is also a quick read too. I finished this all in one sitting. I hope there’s more to come. If not, I’m definitely checking out the creator’s other work.
Well, this was pretty damn cute. I love Sarah Andersen's work, so I knew I needed this in my life as soon as I learned it existed, and I'm so glad I checked it out. I love the general aesthetic of these two, with Elsie being super goth and generally reminding me of Morticia Addams (my WCW forever), and Jimmy being cozy and sweet in his endless flannel apparel. I will say that I wouldn't go into this expecting a cohesive webcomic by any means, as it functions more like Sarah's Scribbles, where we're only getting brief, nonlinear glimpses into random interactions between the characters, but it works well. ♥
This book was just meh and doesn't really have a point. I hated the use of the goth stereotype of wearing only black and of course worshipping Satan and an upside cross. Not one I would reread or recommend.
I received a copy for an honest review.
