This was an adorable comic, showcasing the romantic relationship between a vampire Elsie and a werewolf Jimmy. I've been following it from the first chapter while it was posted weekly on Tapas, and it's so cute and funny. The illustrations are nice and while this was a drastic departure from Sarah's previous comic collection, I think it was a successful one. I'd gladly read more of this.
Utterly charming! I loved the sweet relationship between the two main characters. A quick, fun read.
Sarah Anderson's Fangs is a sometimes sweet, sometimes creepy romance comic about a modern day werewolf who falls in love with an ancient vampire. The plot is minimal (a basic story arc covering the first meet cute -- or should I say meatcute? -- to their eventual cohabitation) but it's nonetheless compelling and entertaining. Morbid jokes about murder appear regularly, so this book might be better suited to more mature readers.
I was so incredibly delighted to receive a review copy of Fangs from NetGalley and Andrews McMell Publishing!
If you don’t know by now this is the newest project of Sarah Anderson the brilliant author of Sarah’s Scribbles and it is AMAZING.
I have been following Fangs from the beginning and knew early that this would become one of my favourite comics series ever. With very little said Sarah manages to make these characters come alive (er, undead) on the page. I quickly fell head over heels for Elsie and Jimmy. The comics follow their sweet love story with lots of hilarious dark humour that SANG to the weird little nerd girl in my heart who used to write bad stories about vampires and werewolves.
I’ve already preordered a hardback copy for myself and my sister-in-law who I know will love this series just as much as I do. This is something that I will want forever.
Recommended to everyone but especially to the ones who may have been a little over zealous with the black eyeliner at any point in their life.
* I received a free eARC from the publisher via Netgalley. Everything in this review is my honest opinion.
This was SO adorable! I usually love Sarah Andersen's books and this one was no exception! The comics are cute with punny punch lines. The cheese was piled rather high but that was of no concern to me. The artwork is cutesy and simple which I recognize as Sarah's work. It was a really cute book with adorable situations and quite a few memorable moments. If you're looking for a book to pass the time and be entertained by this is the book for you!
Beautiful. Sarah Andersen's comics always make me smile. This one was very sweet too. It was a quick and light read. I especially loved the dark humour and drawings.
I got an e-ARC on NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I adore Sarah Anderson's comics and this series is just funny and adorable. A series of vignette moments in the relationship between a werewolf and a vampire. There is no cohesion between each comic. They are just little snapshots into a quirky, supernatural relationship.
Okay, first off all:
it' too short?? I laughed and grinned through 85% of the comics, and when I reached the end I couldn't believe I was already through.
It's a light read for dark days, for sure. The humor in this is just charming and wholesome.
The drawing style fits well for the narration and the pointe is well delivered for all the comic strips.
I hope that Ms. Andersen is working on a second volume of this, maybe with a new monster couple?
And because I liked this so much, I've already pre-ordered my hardcover copy!
This book was the ultimate feel-warm-inside book for me! As a fantasy lover & hopeless romantic, seeing these mundane acts of love between a vampire and werewolf was everything I could ask for. The drawing style was simple yet adorable and it made me believe in love once again. Also, as a chaotic bisexual, I fell in love with both of the characters. Like, head over heels in love with them <3
I’ve been a fan of Sarah Anderson and her work for years. I remember when she first started drawing dem super relatable and funny comics (Sarah’s scribbles) and how it evolved into the phenomena they are today. I’ve literally witnessed how her work evolved and her art style fine-tuned. It was a privilege to see her try her hand at a new style and excel at it so wonderfully. Can’t wait to see more from her, she makes me happy :)
I clicked this on a whim when I saw the cover, which is absolutely GORGEOUS and such an ~aesthetic~. When I realized Sarah Anderson was the person who wrote and illustrated it, I downloaded it immediately, and it was such a good decision.
I absolutely adored Fangs. It was simple and sweet, with enough macabre humor and a gothic touch to make me fall for it instantly. It was shorter than I would have liked, but only because I didn't want it to end. I was surprised at it's format, I went in with the assumption that it was more of a smooth, chronological story than a series of short, disconnected comics (approximately 1 page each) that made up one larger story arc overall.
Fangs warmed my cold, dead heart, and I can't wait for it to come out so I can hold a gorgeous finished copy in my hands.
Sadly I struggled to find a way to read this story as there was no Kindle version available but having read most of it/ other chapters that may or may not be present in this book, on Tapas, I am comfortable and confident in giving the story a solid 4.5/5 stars. I enjoy the quick comics and cute relationship between them and their classic habits that they love about each other.
2.5-3
such a cute graphic novel about a vampire & werewolf’s relationship. i don’t have much to say other than it’s a super easy read with adorable illustrations. definitely something you might wanna pick up if you like graphic novels & if you have a few minutes to spare. i’m back at work now so i can barely squeeze in my reading, but this has definitely helped. it was short & sweet, but i really didn’t like one part which is why my rating is 2.5-3
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and author for allowing me to download this graphic novel!
I have been following Sarah Anderson on instagram, and absolutely love her art style as well as her wit! I was so excited when I saw this available on NetGalley.
This is an absolutely heartwarming glimpse into the relationship between a werewolf named Jimmy and a 300 year old vampire named Elsie. I fell in love with these two characters, and love the way Anderson styled them and wrote their characters. They're super cute with each other, but also the monsters they are. Jimmy makes the cutest werewolf, shifting into more of a traditional wolf than a half man half wolf. I loved the pictures of them sleeping in her coffin with Jimmy in his wolf form. Also I must say I would like Elsie's interior decorator.. her apartment looked super cute!
I do hope that there will be further releases in the future, especially more in a story format than snapshots.
Fangs is a cute slice of life comic about a vampire and werewolf falling in love, and their blooming relationship. This story was so adorable, and I loved all the little stereotypes between the two species popping up. The artwork is very minimalist, which works for the little two to four panel comics. I can't wait to see what else this author has in store for us in the future.
Fangs was absolutely adorable. Both the story and art are relatively simple, but that is part of what makes it so great. It uses all the stereotypical vampire and werewolf ideas, inserts them into a modern setting, and never once feels old or stale. Despite the main characters being "monsters" their relationship is so true to life, and relatable. This book made me smile, and chuckle. If you're looking for a cute modern relationship/love story with a paranormal twist - pick up this book.
I was familiar with the comic from seeing a few of the strips around the web, so when I saw it available for download I had to get it and it did not disappoint. The author manages to maintain a nice balance between funny and wholesome throughout the book, and I enjoyed several of the jokes. It was a quick, light read that made me smile, and I will definitely be purchasing a physical copy to have available and keep reading in the future. Highly recommend!
I requested this on a whim, and I'm so glad I did! It was exactly the laugh I needed after a hard day.
This is a very short novel with illustrations documenting the relationship between a vampire and a werewolf in small snapshots, and it is the purest thing! The bad puns and cheesy humour were spot on. It felt very creative and imaginative.
The illustrations are what drew me to this, to be honest. I've followed Sarah's Scribbles for a while and was excited to see this graphic novel. The drawings are delightful
What a cute and fun story. I read it as fast as I could and enjoyed every moment. I love Sarah Anderson drawings a humour and this book contains them both
Highly recommended
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this Arc
This was a super cute, quirky and overall enjoyable read! I loved the witty puns and how the stereotypes of both Vampires and Werewolves were utilized in such a humorous manner.
The art was simple but super adorable! Although it was a rather quick read, I found myself laughing at almost every page. It is a graphic novel I can foresee myself reaching for again and again when I need a good laugh.
My final thoughts: This is a fun graphic novel that I cannot wait to place on my coffee table as a conversation piece! My only negative is that there wasn’t more to read!
My overall rating: 5/5
Disclosure: I received an eARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes
Such a funny, creative and cute romance with an unusual couple... already loved Sarah’s comics and really enjoyed her humor on this one.
Well done, Sarah!
Thank you to the author and the publisher for a copy of this book...
