Thank you Netgalley and Andrews McMeel publishing for an advanced e-copy of this! This was absolutely adorable. It's cheesy and predictable, but in a good way. Its a simple and fun quick read with an art style that is very much Sarah Andersen!

This was really cute! Elsie can't seem to find a boyfriend because she's a vampire and Jimmy is a werewolf that also finds it hard to date because of his own issues. So low and behold, these two find each other and it's so hilariously perfect.

I love the art, it's dark and gothic and that is right up my alley! Plus, it's a vampire and werewolf romance, so of course, I'd be all over it!

It's not really an A-Z kind of story. It started as a web series, I believe and you can tell, it's more like a bunch of little peaks into their lives and how they work together rather than an actual story. Which I've never experienced before and can say that I enjoyed it.

I can't wait for more from this author/artist. I hope we get more from these two and their lives. If you need something funny this is for you! It's not scary at all! It has so many hilarious puns and lines that had me laughing out loud so hard my partner kept looking at me strangely.

It made me smile and brightened my day. I'm so glad I gave it a shot! I really hope you pick it up too, I promise you'll get a good laugh!

I want to thank NetGalley for this title in exchange for an honest review.

Will go live on my blog 8/26/2020

This was a pleasure to read. As a long time fan of Sarah's comics this was a refreshing different one.
The story centers around a vampire and werewolf who are currently dating, although they are different they make it work.. It's a classic opposite attract and it's a perfect fun read.
i recommend it for a fun, light read.

This book was given to me on in an exchange for an honest review. All opinions are mine.

I love Sarah Andersen’s work. It is quirky and relatable and enjoyable. I am excited that I was able to read Fangs, about an unconventional relationship between a vampire and a werewolf. These characters are great and I really liked the illustrations. Andersen never disappoints!

I didn’t expect this to be a collection of one-shots (but that’s on me because I didn’t read the description fully) and I was really confused at first. I found myself laughing later on, though! It’s filled with jokes and I felt like I was reading one of those short comics they put on newspapers. Perfect for moments where you just want to read a light, funny, and short read!

Sarah Andersen and I are no strangers. I've read pretty much all of her Sarah's Scribbles series and I fell in love with her artstyle and humour. That's why I got very excited when I heard about her newest work, Fangs. Premise also sounded pretty interesting, I'm always up for some supernatural love.

Fangs tells story about young vampire Elsie, who coincidently falls in love with werewolf called Jimmy. Comic itself is pretty short but it focuses on daily life of the couple and brings a lot of humour with it. Andersen's style is pretty minimalistic and unique just as always, just the way I like it. I'd say it's perfect for anyone who'd like to start with her books because it's quite short, funny and also stand'alone (so far, it might change, who knows!).

It was pleasure to experience Jimmy's and Elsie's journey and see all the shenanigans they have to deal with, especially while interacting with outside world. I'd personally love to see more of their story in the future because this was just way too cute.

I'd recommend Fangs to anyone looking for a short and cute romcom comic with a little bit of supernatural.

Fangs tells the story of Elise, a 300-year old vampire with the body of a 26-year old goth girl, falling in love with a werewolf named Jimmy.

The story is cute, quirky, and punny throughout as it spotlights moments in their relationship. Even though the main characters are a vampire and werewolf, it is a surprisingly relatable story about two seemingly different people being perfect for each other.

Pros: the illustrations are lovely, the cover is beautiful, the humor is spot on, and it is an enjoyable short read.

My con is just due to preference. Personally, I would have preferred this to be a little bit more of a fleshed out story about their relationship instead of a collection of situational vignettes.

I hope that there will be a follow up volume for Jimmy and Elise.

(8/14/2020) Thank you to Netgalley for a free e-ARC!
I love love love Sarah Anderson's comics. I read a bit of this on Tapas and I was so thrilled to see it on Netgalley! Of course it didn't disappoint. Who doesn't love a cutesy love story between two sworn paranormal races? Although there's no overarching narrative or storyline, this compilation of little episodes between Elise the vampire and Jimmy the werewolf is so sweet. Filled with puns and a lovely set of awkward characters, Fangs is a wonderful story.

Perfect 5 stars. I loved everything about it. I have no notes. I'm actually going to have to figure out how to lengthen this review because I'd be happy to say that it was perfect in every way and I'd recommend it to everyone.

I first heard about the project through tumblr. People kept reposting parts of Fangs outside of Andersen's official tumblr, so unfortunately it took some time, but the second I saw the announcement of the book I knew I wanted to read it. Just the few panels I saw floating about had me hooked. A vampire girlfriend and a werewolf boyfriend... and the art! The humor! The romance!!

One of the things that immediately caught my attention was the uniqueness. It's difficult to write anything at all new about vampires or werewolves at this point, but Andersen has done it. It balances so easily between tropey and original; the comic plays off of old stereotypes and tropes about vampires without rehashing the same thing everyone's done before.

It's also unnervingly cute. "We should have a baby," Jimmy says. Elsie looks at him uncomprehendingly for a moment, then asks, "Like, for dinner?" They are so evil and deadpan and creepy and... I really really really want to see them live happily ever after. The concept of a wedding is brought up Once and by the time I had finished the book I was ready for Fangs 2: My Big Fat Werepire Wedding, as well as Fangs 3: Married Life I Couldn't Think Of A Pun For. Werried Life? No That's Just Weird. You have this need to see these characters be romantic and cutesy and happy together, and not only that, but the comic DELIVERS. Have no fear, for the cuddles in this book will sate you.

The art is perfect. I often struggle to talk about art in comics because I'm not an artist, so I don't really know how to explain that the art is the exact right kind to carry this story along. It's simple, so it doesn't get in the way, but Andersen knows when and how to get detailed as well. The characters have perfect, easy to read design. You see the vampire and werewolf characteristics in them even in Jimmy's human form and Elsie's mouth-closed form, but they're, again, not The Same Old Thing Over Again. You could imagine seeing them in the street... and there's a nice loose feeling to the art as well.

I want to keep talking about this book but I don't even know how. It's a wonderful book.

WOULD I RECOMMEND IT?
Yes, absolutely, to anyone with the slightest interest in vampires, werewolves, comics, humor, or romance.

When I saw a graphic novel by Sarah Andersen, I had to read it!
Ideally, I would have read it in October because well vampires and werewolves, but as it is, I read it on a very hot Summer day haha!
If I did not find as much humor as I was expecting from Sarah Andersen, I really enjoyed following this exceptional romance between a vampire and a werewolf, it was just super cute to follow their daily life, while Andersen also plays on the myths and legends on these creatures, and integrate them in modern life.
It's really a perfect read for the Fall!

An enjoyable modern supernatural relationship tale of a vampire and a werewolf that left me wanting more (and reminded me a bit of Kate Leth's style.

This is a easy read but you will not be disapointed. Fangs is a super cute romance between a Vampire and a Werewolf. They accept eachothers differences and make there relationship work. I recommoned this read.

the line "a love story between a vampire and a werewolf" is really all you need to know about this graphic novel.

it's a short and sweet story following, as mentioned, a vampire and a werewolf, showing little snippets of their relationship and just the simple small moments that make up life. it's all with a bit of a supernatural twist of course and I enjoyed myself the whole way through.

the format of the graphic novel is very episodic without an actual coherent plot so be aware of that before going into it, but otherwise I wholeheartedly recommend it. it's absolutely delightful, filled with loads of clever and funny lines and puns and an absolutely sweet relationship. I thoroughly liked the art style as well.

synopsis

Fangs by Sarah Andersen chronicles the relationship between a vampire and a werewolf. Originally published on tapas (still available on the website), Fangs is set to be published by Andrews McMeel Publishing on September 1st, 2020.

my thoughts

There are a number of things I loved about this webcomic turned graphic novel. To start off, the humor is amazing. There are a healthy smattering of puns throughout the entire thing and I am a huge pun fan. Andersen also uses the panel set up to aid her humor, creating a few misdirects that are absolutely hilarious. Another part of the humor that I enjoyed a lot is the fact that the humor plays off of the typical and stereotypical ideas of vampires and werewolves without trying to subvert them or say anything clever about them.

The relationship is always incredibly adorable. We don’t see much of them struggling in their relationship at all, which I think is by design. It’s just this look into a very tender and adorable relationship that is just very lighthearted and refreshing.

Finally, I really enjoyed the art style. It isn’t one of the most complicated art styles out there but it is incredibly effective and generally just very nice to look at.

If you are looking for a very sweet, lighthearted, and humorous read, I highly recommend checking this book out!

It’s such a cute compilation of comics! There’s not really an overarching plot, but each individual comic goes together well. The art style is adorable. Both of the main characters are pretty fleshed out for the medium and length of the story. I would really love if it was longer!
