A good read. Gripping throughout and with some dark elements. Looking forward to another case with Grace as they never disappoint.
I really enjoy this series, the whole history with Grace and the notorious Steele family is always interesting and explosive.
Grace and the team are investigating the stabbing of a teenage girl. The only witness is her best friend.
The story starts to unfold and we also see an insight into the lives of Erin (the murdered girl ) and her friend Molly.
There is far more to them than meets the eye and it leads to tragedy and shocking discoveries.
Really good book, off to read the next one.
GOOD GIRL by Mel Sherratt is the fourth book in the DS Grace Allendale series set and is a great police procedural . Sixteen-year-old Erin Ellis is stabbed walking home with her best friend Molly. Despite the paramedics’ efforts, Erin dies and the mugging becomes a murder investigation. DS Grace Allendale is assigned as the family liaison officer to Erin’s family. Was this simply a mugging gone wrong ? Erin was a ‘good girl’ from a nice home in a safe neighbourhood. Or was there something or someone in Erin’s life who targeted her. As the case unfolds once again Grace’s half brother Leon Steele is possibly tangled up with this new investigation.
Once again Mel has written a thrilling read told by the different characters linking the past and present lives of the two best friends.
Somehow I forgot that I had this book on here and went back and read it again in 2022.
It’s really gripping and interesting to see how the detectives are set to find out who want to kill the survivors, especially after realising that the previous crime was a mistake and the stack was aimed to someone else.
The end twist was unexpected and left me wanting more from the next books in the series.
Very grateful to the publisher for my review copy.
Book 4 in the DC Grace Allendale series. I enjoyed it more than others in the series as it had a twist at the end that I didn’t see coming.
Thank you to Net Galley, The publishers and the author.
I apologise for the delay as a huge demand of books from publishers and authors.
When sixteen-year-old Erin Ellis is attacked, she dies in the arms of her best friend Molly, just metres from her home. Molly is the surviving girl but says she easily could have been the victim – it was a random mugging gone wrong.
With inconclusive evidence, DS Grace Allendale must dig deep within the tight-knit Stoke community for leads. And she soon finds that someone had a motive to kill Erin.
So many things were unearthed, many secrets. Erin and Molly were up to things that their families knew nothing about, feeling the despair of Erin’s family and the way it affected them, especially her little brother, the friendship of the two mothers?
As the investigation unfolds, Grace is reminded of a horrifying case she worked on earlier in her career, and as her team dig deep and find out more secrets, more shocks, where does this story lead to, is the past coming back to haunt Grace Allendale?
Graces’ vulnerability with regard to being a member of the Steele family is evident throughout, and whilst they are villains they are still flesh and blood, but are they behind the shocking death of a sixteen year old girl and what were the girls involved in?
And can Grace push through her fear to catch Erin’s killer before it’s too late?
A well placed, strong crime thriller.
This was a brilliant read and is being featured on my blog for my quick star reviews feature, which I have created on my blog so I can catch up with all the books I have read and therefore review.

Well, what can I say? I read this book in just over 24 hours.
Mel Sherratt has to be one of my favourite authors. I don’t think I have read a bad book that she has written. I know I’ve probably said this a few times after reading one of her books but, this is definitely the best one I have read.
Mel, you are amazing.
I love the Grace Allendale series - they just keep getting better and better! Good Girl deal with quite a dark subject matter and is a tough read at times. It will definitely make you wonder what your teenage daughters could be up to!
This is the fourth instalment in the DS Grace Allendale series and Grace has her work cut out for her. 16 year old Erin is stabbed on her way back to her house with her friend Molly, the families are devastated, who would want to harm a 16 year old girl? As the investigation ensues and secrets are unravelled, what is uncovered is shocking, a case of child grooming at its worse with money, drink and drugs at the forefront for older men. A harrowing read at times due to its nature but very well dealt with. Grace crosses with her estranged family yet again but maybe this time the Steeles will be more help than hindrance! A brilliant put together well thought out book, one which you will not want to put down. Another great rollercoaster ride of emotions and twists which this author has brought me on. Can’t wait for the next one.
Was a really great read, fab story that flowed nicely and kept me gripped from beginning to end, I read it with no issues considering it's part of a series
Any book by Mel Sheraton is a winner and there’s nothing like settling down with the latest. DS Grace Allendale police procedural and a gripping murder mystery that is reminiscent of a previous crime. Grace is a great protagonist and we join a recurring cast from previous novels but once again, you can read them out of order. A slower start builds up tension and we race, along with Grace before the killer strikes again.
This is the first Mel Sherratt I've read and it is a decent police procedural with likeable characters in Grace and Allie. Sherratt writes with an authentic voice and brings the community who are impacted by the crime to life. However, it too simplistically written for me and the author spells everything out rather than leaving it to the reader's imagination.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a digital ARC.
Set in Stoke, Staffordshire the reader is faced with friendships, secrets, exploitation, guilt, blame, manipulation, loss, and a search for justice…cue Grace!
I have been a HUGE fan of Mel Sherratt for many years… bought and read all of her books and they just keep getting better! This book has it all – a hooky opening, fast paced storyline, relatable characters, and a few OMFG moments to catch the reader off guard.
What I love about this author and her books is the way that she makes the reader feel a part of the story, as if you know the people (characters) and you are just so invested! Every storyline has it’s own twist – it’s been ‘mel-anised’ and even if you think you’ve read something similar, the author proves you wrong.
Grace is clever, determined and no one to take any crap – even if it is personal. I love that familiar faces from the previous books in this series resurface, including the Steele’s and this ramps up the conflict and tension.
Would I recommend this read? Hells bells, you know I would…do…always will! A belting story that had me up into the early hours – addictive, chilling and incredibly real, if you haven’t read Mel Sherratt’s books yet, I highly recommend you rectify that ASAP!
Hatred boiled and twisty tale of long friendship and wrong lovers .. a young girl killed in front of her friend is first step toward flashback to why it all happened. I have to admit the sharp police procedural focus doesn't always work for me although I know some people enjoy it .
Mel Sheratt's Grace Allendale series is a unique and compelling series. With a complicated history & upbringing Grace's story always makes for a very interesting read. Good Girl is only the fourth book in series but is every bit as captivating & suspenseful. The case is brings back memories of her very first case/book Hush Hush. Its nice to see the minor points of the previous case finally come full circle. The plot was good & characters were great! The opening chapter was gripping & every new twist made the book unputdownable. I was able to guess to guess the outcome of this twisted complex book but that didn't take away any fun. The book had a lot of emotional moments for many characters & it was executed with great finesse by Mel Sherratt. A police procedural through & through my interest in her current case kept increasing with every twist. I'd love to see what Grace get's up to with her next case!
Thank you NetGalley, Avon Books UK & Mel Sherratt for an arc!
Book 4 in the DS Grace Allendale series. 16 year old Erin Ellis is heading home one evening with her best friend Molly when she is attacked and stabbed. Molly doesn’t know what to do and runs for help. Erin sadly díes and it is up to DS Allendale and the team to find who the killer is. As the investigation is carried on Grace is horrified to discover it is similar to a case she worked on a few years back.
This is an excellent police procedural with a fast paced rhythm and really kept my interest the whole way through. I would recommend reading the other books in the series first to get a feel for the characters and the background.
This is the fourth book in the series featuring DS Grace Allendale but reads well as a stand-alone. Teenagers Erin and Molly are best friends and on their way home Erin is stabbed just yards away from her house. She is taken to hospital but sadly dies from her wounds. Grace is called out to investigate the murder and is puzzled that this crime seems more than a mugging that has gone wrong. When she begins to investigate the girls’ backgrounds it soon becomes apparent that the girls have been hiding secrets from their families. As the book delves into these secrets we are taken back to events leading up to Erin’s death and discover that they were involved with bad people. Grace realises that certain aspects of the case seem to be familiar and it looks like her estranged family could be involved. This is a gripping read, with a fantastic storyline. A book I couldn’t put down, highly recommended.
Thanks to Netgalley and Avon Books for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.
Grace Allendale in the thick of it all again! Brilliant.
a really juicy storyline ,police procedurally, geographically correct, tale of heartache woe murder mayhem and jealousy. What more can you ask for in a read?
Best friends who had grown up together bitching on each other and fighting to the death *shaking my head*
The main story of sex trafficking girls is so very true to life and quite sickening, I love the fact that Mel Sherratt has taken a raw ,very real subject and brought it to the forefront of our minds because this DOES happen so the more people read this the more know what to look for in their own families.if they are worried about their behaviour.Boys and girls!
I will be introducing this to all the young people I know and my family, not only is it real, its a gripping listen. I listened to it on audiobook and found myself holding my breath on many occasions. I also found myself cursing and urging the characters on in many parts of the book. The narrator did a sterling job Colleen Prendergast
I have read/listened to all Mel Sherratts books this one was a delicious (if one can call a book that) read to devour and very easy to listen torso easy you can't stop listening.
This is a well-written mix of psychological suspense and police procedural. There are ties to Allendales's estranged family, which is a recurring theme of the series. No one is telling the truth, but a painstaking investigation reveals why.
The characters are believable, the police investigation team is realistic, and the plot is multilayered, hiding its secrets until the climactic conclusion.
I received a copy of this book from Avon Books UK via NetGalley in return for an honest review.
