A book that really has you thinking and trying to work it all out. That said, it was a bit difficult to follow at times. All a bit confusing with two similar names, three different timelines, and no indication in the chapter headings of what to expect.
A highly recommended read and I look forward to more by this author. With thanks to NetGalley for the copy of The Twins for me to give my opinion on.

I read this in one sitting, it was that good! I love the storyline of twins who long for the same life, so interesting. The twists in this one were insane, but so good. I love the writing style and am excited to read more!

Lucy and her mum, Sarah are enjoying a relaxing evening together drinking their wine and snacking on nibbles when there's a knock at the door. Sarah's twin sister, Susan who she hasn’t seen for thirty years is on the doorstep. Lucy invites the aunt she knows nothing about inside despite Sarah’s reluctance. The Twins is the slow unravelling of a dark and twisted tale about identical twins with Sarah’s husband, Jonny caught slap bang in their midst.

Compelling writing and continuous tension ensured that I was riveted to the story for the entirety of the book. Told from Sarah's and Susan's perspectives in different timelines, when they were thirteen and thirty years later, I really appreciated Jane Lark's guileful narrative. The pacing was comfortable, and the tension soon escalated to suspenseful levels. This was an absolute cracker of a thriller and the author's characterisation was superb with a blend of fascinating players, most of whom were unlikable, though this did not affect my enjoyment of the story.

The Twins was a cleverly plotted page-turner complete with jaw-dropping twists leading up to an exciting, exhilarating conclusion. Full of passion, love, vengeance, hate, violence, abuse, jealousy, and devastating betrayal I recommend this unsettling and unpredictable novel very highly.

I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from One More Chapter via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.

If you’re looking for a light read, this is not the book for you! Dark and containing some difficult themes, this is a psychological thriller that keeps you guessing from start to finish!

Twins Susan and Sarah’s upbringing was far from conventional. At first they depend only on each other but with the introduction of Jonny into their lives, a series of events creates cracks in their relationship that alter the course of their history forever.

The story unfolds over different timelines and it can be quite tricky to keep up with which point in time you are reading. The main characters are also so similar that it can be confusing to know which twin is which at points in the narrative but as you progress through the book, this seems to be an almost deliberate ploy by the author as it certainly adds to the suspense as to whether either of them are really who they seem!

There are many plot twists throughout and plenty of moments which cause you to gasp out loud. A real page-turner!

With thanks to the author and One More Chapter Publishing for the opportunity to participate in the tour.

Not a fan, unfortunately.

Lots of twists but I find the entire plot line slightly unbelievable. I'm not saying that two sisters wouldn't bicker about a man, but to go to such lengths seems slightly ridiculous.

A complete head spinning psycological thriller. Twins as close as can be separated by a man that both love. In later years Sarah is successfully married with a thriving business and has thrown off her awful past. However, Susan appears back in their lives after a long estrangement which becomes clear why during the book. Some dark subjects but a really twisty tale of love, revenge and loyalty.

I went into this one thinking it was going to be an easily predictable book. Boy was I wrong, there were so many twists and turns and I loved it! Really couldn’t put it down!

This twisting and engrossing thriller was very unique and was an enjoyable read. I loved the characters and story, but feel some things could have been a little better developed and the writing wasn't as what I've come to expect in the genre. Overall it was a solid quick read if you're looking for thrills.

This is my first J.S. Lark book and I really liked it. The story was multifaceted and real. There were times I felt like I was right there with them. There were times that I had trouble keeping the twins straight, especially toward the end.. The story is told from alternative perspectives while jumping form their childhood to the present. There were many twists and turns along the way and two final twists I never saw coming.

Be warned this book is graphic at times and includes abuse, drug use, neglect, and sexual assault.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Sarah and Susan are identical twins. So identical that even their mother could not tell them apart. Plus, she was a useless mother – inevitably the twins got up to mischief, hardly ever at school, stealing and as they got into their teens, they got into even more trouble, even being place into a home at one point – they ran away.

They meet up with some boys, one, Jonny is a lovely character and he falls for one of the twins, whilst the other twin has a far more disturbing encounter with his friend, but Jonny helps her and she in turn is smitten by Jonny.

Thirty years later and one of the twins is married to Jonny and they have a daughter, Lucy. Enter the other twin, Jonny and Lucy are delighted to welcome her, but not so her twin. She distrusts her and she is frightened.

Firstly, let me state that I did enjoy this book and I couldn’t wait to see what transpired. That said, it was a bit difficult to follow at times. You will note that I refer to ‘one twin’ or ‘the other twin’. Therein lies the difficulty. It was all a bit confusing, two names fairly similar, different timelines backwards and forwards. So, I can’t say with any certainty which twin was married to Jonny – not without looking it up again.

So all in all, yes I would recommend this because it is cleverly constructed; sad in places, shocking inasmuch as the neglect of the girls, and characterisation feels relevant and viable. Yes, it is an easy read, but be prepared to shuffle backwards and forwards to see which twin is doing what, and to whom! Perhaps this is a clever device of the author, to confuse the reader, much as the characters were confused in identifying/separating the twins.

Thank you to the author, publishers and NetGalley for providing an ARC via my Kindle in return for an honest review.

An interesting story although the use of twins to give a thriller a twist seems a bit overdone now. I also found the jumps in time and changes of narrator quite hard to follow.

* Before I start I think it should be noted that if you have not yet read this book you should be made aware that there are some very disturbing themes within this book including child rape, drug abuse and lots more!!! *

I found this one quite hard to get into, mainly because of the jumping back and forth with timelines, there is no consistency whatsoever and at times I was completely unsure who's POV I was actually reading which meant I was then doubling back on myself to try and get to grips with it all. The fact that there were three timelines and then different POVs on top just made it a very confusing read.

In brutal honesty I didnt enjoy the authors writing style at all, the dialogue just didnt flow naturally and the repetition of 'how alike'the twins were drove me nuts.

The characters weren't overly likeable (if you can work out who's who) and somewhat flat, no personalities shone through at all.

As for the plot... why so many unnecessary twists?? I honestly think if it had been easier and clearer to follow with a more nailed down plot this book could have been amazing!

Thanks to netgalley and Harper Collins UK (One More Chapter) for the ARC.

I did enjoy ‘The Twins’ and became quite hooked on the story of them growing up as there seemed to be so many different aspects to their life and interesting stories to tell. However, I will warn any future readers that there are some parts that some readers may find disturbing, so definitely do your research before picking up this book.

The book switches between the past and the present and I have to admit that I did not feel this was done well. As the same characters are in both the past and the present, it became quite difficult to follow. This could be easily rectified by adding the year at the beginning of each chapter. That being said, I did read an ARC so appreciate that this may be changed before the final copy of the book is released.

J.S. Lark adds in a few twists along the way, some of which came as a surprise and they certainly keep the book interesting. The girls are both very intriguing and you quickly become gripped to their story. ‘The Twins’ was a bit of a rollercoaster of emotions for me, I felt sorry for them one minute but was angry the next, it is a real whirlwind! Overall, I would most certainly recommend the book to my followers, it is one to add to your TBR!

By the end I was doubting everything I knew. More twists and turns than a rollercoaster. I wasn't too sure at first that I was going to enjoy it, but it soon picked up and I couldn't put it down. It's difficult to say much without giving anything away, but a sad, chaotic childhood for inseparable twins Sarah and Susan. We now meet them in their middle age, meeting for the first time in 30 years. Sarah is married to Susan's first boyfriend, Johnny, with a grown up daughter, Laura. She does not want to see "evil twin" Susan, and we know there's more to their split than meets the eye. It takes until a very sad, eventful ending to discover what really happened. Just when you think you've worked out the twist ...... #netgalley #thetwins

J S Lark is back with a terrifying new thriller guaranteed to give readers sleepless nights: The Twins!

Twins Susan and Sarah aren’t just sisters. They have been the best of friends from the moment they drew breath and they have always been there for one another through the good times and the bad. Always willing to help and support each other, the bond between the two sisters has only strengthened and deepened over time. Nothing and nobody could come between the two of them and there is no way on earth that one of the sisters will betray the other. Their relationship is of paramount importance to the two of them, but is it as rock solid as they’ve always thought it to be? When a dashing older man comes into their lives, a wedge is driven between the two of them. Both Susan and Sarah have fallen in love with Jonny. But who will he choose?

Jonny gives the girls all the love and attention that has long been denied to them. Susan and Sarah would absolutely love nothing more than to be Jonny’s wife, but Jonny can only marry one of them and when he makes his choice, one of them is disappointed and broken-hearted and their bond is severed for ever. For the first time in their lives, the girls find themselves having to forge their own path. Will they thrive and prosper? Or will they fail in a cruel and unforgiving world without the support of the other?

While Sarah begins to build a new life for herself with her new husband and family, Susan’s life spirals out of the control. While Sarah starts a family and creates a stable life for herself, Susan lurches from one disaster to the next. But Susan has had enough. She wants her old life back and she wants her sister to pay for taking what should have been hers in the first place. Susan wants what she believes is rightfully hers and she will not stop until she possesses the happiness that has been stolen from her – even if it means hurting the sister who used to mean everything to her.

J S Lark never fails to plumb the depths and darkness of the human psyche and pen gritty, twisted and disturbing thrillers which keep readers hooked throughout and in The Twins, she has written a chilling tale of vengeance, loyalty and betrayal that will make every single hair on the back of your neck stand on end. A heart-stopping and nerve-twisting page-turner packed with shocking twists nobody could possibly predict, The Twins is a fantastic thriller that examines tangled family relationships, destructive jealousy and devastating betrayals.

A spine-tingling tale readers won’t forget in a hurry, The Twins is another must-read by J S Lark.

What a ride this book gave me. Throughout the story you are never sure who is Susan and who is Sarah speaking which although a tad confusing adds to the intrigue. It touches upon many taboo topics in a really easy to read story, The author has taken many ideas and thrown them together in a magical way with lots of unexpected twists and turns. Each time I thought that I had a grip on these two girls/ladies a spanned was thrown in and once again I did not know hat to think. This is a really excellent read and I highly recommend it to anyone who likes mysteries with lots of twists and turns.

Wow! This is a very twisted and unsettling domestic thriller. This story is told through different time lines which may be confusing to follow. Filled with various triggers, this over the top tale twists and turns to the final shocking conclusion. The final twist was totally unexpected! Thank you NetGalley and One More Chapter for my ARC.

After I got to grips with the changes in narrators I enjoyed this book, however three days later I’m struggling to recall much about it! Therefore I can only really award three stars.

Edit - I was troubled by the fact that I couldn’t remember the ending of this book so I revisited it on my kindle and found (surprise, surprise) that I hadn’t actually finished it. I don’t know why or what possessed me to start another book, thinking that I had completed The Twins but ..... I’m humbled to say I loved the second half and have adjusted my scored to a 4.5 (so a 5 star i reality). A great twisty story with a lot of unforeseen turns.
