2.5/3 Wanting Yours Stars

This has the Twin factor on overload. At a young age, they were inseparable. Then Boys Happened. A Choice was made and their lives were split apart.
Now they are grown-ups, one is married and her life is set, not perfect. The other has lived a life that had many ugly experiences. She looks at her twin and decides she deserves better...She deserves what her twin has. Each twin has been tied to this man and he has become this twisted prize.
This book has many dark pieces that could be triggering.
This is a zippy little thriller about a pair of twins- Sarah and Susan. Sarah marries Jonny, who Susan loved when they were teens and now she's living a fine life. Until Susan, who has been bearing a grudge of years, shows up. That's the set up and it's the easiest part of the plot to explain. This moves back and forth in time from the 1980s to the present and between the two women. It can be a tad confusing at times, which is part of Lark's plan, I think. Which twin is the bad seed? They had a dreadful childhood and they both have secrets. No spoilers from me but know that I was surprised by some of the twists. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.
This was a fairly enjoyable twisty, unexpected thriller. It was the best I've read this year, however it had me guessing until the end. It was quite dark in general and shocking in ways that I wasn't prepared for.
I wish I could give this twenty stars instead of five, it was such an awesome book to read. At first I was slightly confused with the first few chapters as I didn’t know who I was reading about but, after awhile I realised and got into this twisty story very quickly. The plot would make a fantastic film and I couldn’t put this book down. Absolutely brilliant!!!! My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.
Apologies but the writing style meant this was a DNF for me,some styles you know fairly early on are not for you and then I find if this is the case the story suffers as youare concentrating on that rather than the story itself, again apologies
I love a good thriller and it had been a while since I’ve read one so I was so exciting for this one! There were so many twists and turns in this story it was hard to keep up at times. The book is narrated from both Sarah and Susan’s point of view and alternates regularly without warning, which sometimes confused me and I had to keep reminding myself who was who, but tbh that could just be me!
There are also jumps in time too, often switching between the twins’ childhood, teenage years and current day, both before ‘the incident’ and after, although this was titled for each chapter. The alternations between time and character may sound hard to keep up with, but I was so invested in the story that I just had to keep reading on.
I don’t write reviews with spoilers because it’s my biggest bugbear to accidentally come across one, but that ending?! Those surprises just kept coming! It was well thought through, although it left me a little confused for a while after and I had to properly sit and think a lot to make sure I had it right, me and my poor brain found it a lot to take in!
Parts of this story were really good and kept me reading. Some of it though was predictable and that is why I have given it 3 stars.
Thank you to Netgalley for my copy.
Two twins, one is evil , one is not. What more do you need.?
Wait , maybe they are both evil , I can't decide.
They are definitely not very likeable .
Their mother less so
Who can you believe, who can you trust . Psychotic comes to mind.
They both want Jonny , one is married to him.
I had to find out who would win this battle and was I betting on the right twin.
The pages fly by and the twists keep coming.
Thanks to NetGalley and Harper Collins UK, One More Chapter for a wild read. Loved it.
What the Heck Did I Just Read!? This book was a complete mind-fuck and I loved it! Yes it was over the top and you have to be able to suspend your belief a little bit. That usually drives me bonkers but I hated everyone in this book so it worked.
The story is told in two different timelines, when the girls are teens and thirty years later. The before chapters, when they were younger, made me feel all kinds of emotions and I enjoyed them the most because of that. There are many twists and turns...right up until the end. Some of them even I didn't see and that's saying a lot because I can usually figure them out.
I loved the writing, it was so easy to read and kept me reading. I really enjoyed how I as the reader got to experience the unfolding of the story along with Lucy as she learned more about her aunt and her own mother. It was definitely a case of... just when you thought you knew...think again - and then maybe...think again. The denouement was exciting and a proper race to the end. And I loved the final chapters. Just perfect!
Put me out of my reading misery, will you?
I did not care for the style of the writing, the dialogue was so,/i> bad, and if I had to read one more time about just how much these twins looked alike, I think I may have let out a really nasty string of curses. I mean, they're identical twins...that's kind of the point.
I fully intended to give The Twins one star, but there was a little twist at the end I didn't expect...so I generously added a star. Because I'm kind like that.
Unfortunately, I, once again, won't be recommending a book.

**My sincere appreciation to NetGalley and HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter, for my review copy.
Well this book seems to have it all. Psychotic twin sisters, drug abuse, rape, murder. What more could you ask for? It’s a thriller about an evil twin, but is it Susan or Sarah? It’s quite a fast paced thriller that I read over a couple of days and goes between past and present. I did enjoy it however sometimes I felt it took me a couple of paragraphs in each chapter to realise which twin was experiencing which event and whether this was part or present. Other than that it’s a dark and twisty thriller that I found hard to put down. I would rate this book 3.5 stars. Thank you to NetGalley, Harper Collins UK, One More Chapter and the author for the chance to review.
Such a great book where I am left speechless over these two twins who constantly take the others life. And can I just put in my two cents that’s so typical of a guy...
Thank you to Netgalley and HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter for granting my wish to read this book by J.S Larke.
4 stars as it was a really gripping read, i loved how it was written and portrayed i finished within 1 day it was a great book to read so thank you to the author of this book for writing an immense book! Defintiely recommend to anyone as this follows a set of twins in whom are inseperable from one another and until a guy comes along and chooses one of them then they are split apart... Then you see what happens to the twin whom he didnt choose and what happened in her life to the twin who got chosen to be with him.
love love love!!
This is a pacy novel, with many twists and turns. There are some unbelievable twists and if you can hang on it is pretty extreme but brilliant!
This book was really good. It is told from a past/present tense and I really enjoy stories that do that. Sarah and Susan were very interesting characters and I was very intrigued to see what was going to happen between them.
I found the plot to be a bit of a slow burn but it made sense for the story to establish what had happened in the past.
I enjoyed this book and if you like a slower burn mystery, this book is for you.
The book alternates between past and present in two perspectives. Sarah and Susan are really close twins until one day everything changed. They both want the same man, Johnny and that causes tension. Sarah is married to Johnny after he previously was involved with Susan when he was eighteen and she was thirteen. Sarah and Susan lose touch for a while but then when Susan comes back into their lives it causes a big issue for Sarah, Johnny and their daughter.
Thanks Netgalley for the advance ecopy.
"The Twins" is a thriller book centered around two twins - Sarah and Susan - and their history over the course of a few decades.
The book switches back and forth between the 1980s and the late 2010s, as well as switching back and forth between each of the twins' point of view, and while this admittedly made the story a bit confusing at times, it was also helpful in understanding what each of them went through and the events that took place leading up to the present day. Something else I think is very important to mention about this book is the fact that some very heavy topics are incorporated into it - rape and drug use in particular - so I wouldn't recommend this book to those who are triggered by those subjects.
I thought this book was okay. I wasn't as interested in it as I initially thought or hoped I would be, but it got better once I was able to understand the plot a bit more and keep up with the constantly changing timeline throughout the book.
When I read the description of this book I was excited and really wanted to like it. I was sadly disappointed. While it got better towards the end of the book the writing was not great and the dialogue felt forced. I don’t mind a book that switches perspective or jumps around in time, but this book did both with nothing to distinguish one perspective/time than any of the others, I think it was to make the whole story like a shell game but it just made me lose interest. The story was ok but the twists weren’t particularly shocking or interesting. I think there is a seed for a good story in here but I don’t think it got what it needed to grow. Two twins, Susan and Sarah, share everything until they reach the age of 13 and Susan meets a boy and falls in love. Nothing is the same after this. Poverty, rape, drug abuse, exploitation and murder - Sarah and Susan have no idea what they’re in for.
“From the moment they are born, twins Susan and Sarah are inseparable. Through good and bad, the girls will always be together…forever.”
Sarah and Susan were very close as children until something happened in their early teen years. Twenty five years later Sarah is married to Jonny who when children was the love of both of the girls. We go back in time in alternate chapters and it is a young Susan who is seeing Jonny. Present day Sarah and Jonny run a cafe and have an adult daughter Lucy having not seen or talked about Susan for all that time. One day Susan arrives on the doorstep having found them both and so sets off memories forgotten and things that neither Lucy or Jonny were aware of. The book begins with a car crash with Lucy and Susan in it. I enjoyed this however my one criticism of this is that the chapters were not labelled as to whose perspective we were about to get or which timeline which at times made it a little confusing. I had to work out who was telling the story and it would have been easier to have a timeline and person's name at the beginning of each chapter which would have made things clearer. That said it was a good read, well written and kept the grey matter active. A very clever concept that really made me think and an excellent plot line which kept me within the pages. A mind thinking read!

3 for neutral, tried many times to get into it, but either my mood prevented it or it was just too confusing, I’ll update if able to finish at a late date!
