I loved this one - rarely does a sequel surpass the original, but this one definitely hits the spot!
I loved the feel good vibes that are consistent throughout.
I loved genuinely not knowing what would happen at the end, but also not knowing what I wanted go happen!
A little spice gave this one a little je ne sais quois!
All in all, cracker!
Just loved the easiness of this read and the characters are were lovely. The setting kept in your minds eye and I could almost feel the sun on my face. It will certainly go on my happy re read list.
My thanks as always to NetGalley and the publisher Harper Collins UK, One More Chapter for the early read
Anna lives on a beautiful island with her gorgeous boyfriend. She is a photographer and travels a lot for work.
When she gets home, there is a celebration at their home. Her best friend gets engaged and that somehow puts cracks into her own relationship and the distance they face for a better part of the year might be too much.
It felt overly long and I had a hard time staying focused on the story.
I have mixed feelings about this book. I liked Anna as a character and you could feel the thrill she got from her job as a photographer travelling all over the world. I had trouble liking her long term boyfriend Nikos who owned a vineyard and seemed to undermine Anna for half of the book. Anna’s best friend, and Nikos cousin, Elena gets engaged and as the wedding plans start Ann and Nikos seem to start questioning their relationship but they never communicate how they are both feeling.
The beautiful island of Santorini is the setting for the book and there was a lot to enjoy about the island, the wedding, the food and the family relationships. However, I spent half of the book sad at the way Anna was treated not only by Nikos but by the girls at the hen party. She deserved so much more. The ending was cute but by then I had lost patience and was just glad to finish the book
Secrets Are Revealed..
The stunning Greek island of Santorini basks in the sun, it appears that Anna has a wonderful life there with Nikos. Not everything is as it seems. As a wedding beckons and celebrations get underway will cracks begin to show as secrets are revealed? Will their relationship stand the test of time? A romantic and emotional Summer read with a well drawn cast of characters, a perfect settling and much domestic upheaval.
Loved this book! Great pacing, great character development, realistic story. Could feel the tension and conflict not only between Anna and Nikos, but also between Anna and some of the other characters.
This was a cute and fun read set on the beautiful island of Santorini. Although the story was fun, it did have emotional moments, especially with the story of Anna's father and their relationship.
Overall this novel was a quick and enjoyable read and the story would be made even more enjoyable if it was read on a vacation or in the midst of travelling.
This novel is definitely one that would be a cute romantic comedy to see adapted into film, especially if the location was set in beautiful Santorini.
***Thank you to the publisher for supplying me with a copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review***
This was so cute! The characters are adorable and so so loveable from the start, the book is well written and enjoyable
I really wanted to enjoy this book much more than I did. It might have something to do with the fact I went into this book not realizing it was the sequel to The Summer House in Santorini. Maybe I would have been rooting more for Anna and Nikos if I had read their origin story, but I was more on the side of everyone who told her she might be better off doing what is best for her career instead. Anna is a wonderful character. She is probably a character I relate to more than I wish I did. How she reacted to the different news she was giving, her feeling left out, etc. I think that is why I wanted more for her in the end. Parks was able to wrap this book up with a nice Happily Ever After, but it just was as satisfying for me. Instead it felt forced and unrealistic.. Maybe if Nikos was more redeemable throughout, I would have been happier with the classical romance novel way.
"The Summer Wedding in Santorini" introduces us to another glorious Greek island (strictly speaking a group of islands with Santorini the largest of them) and it's well-to-do, go-getting residents. The main character is Anna, a woman with a Greek father and an English mother, who lives next door to her Greek grandparents. Her partner Nikos is a gardener and vineyard owner. Anna is a photographer who spends some of her time away on shoots around the World.
The wedding of the title is that of Nikos' cousin Elena, who is also Anna's best friend. The drama of the wedding is overlaid with the struggle Anna is having coming to terms with her future. This is apparently the second book about these characters but I read it as a stand alone novel. Readable and thought-provoking.
Thanks to Net Galley and the publishers for the opportunity to review this book.
Thank you Harper Collins UK and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.
This is the first time I read something about Samantha Parks.
As other readers have said, I think it would help if there would be any indicative that this is the second book. At the beginning I could felt some things missing.
The plot in general was interesting, like taking a trip in Greece, wanting to enjoy those views.
The part I didn't like so much was how the main characters kept putting off the problem over and over again. That makes you lose interest in the story. It feels like it doesn't flow and it's a melodrama where I would have preferred it to have more moments solving their problems than leaving everything at the end.
I finished reading it out of curiosity, but I think it could be better.
Spoilers: I think if I were in Anna's shoes with all the things that Niko did, I would have walked away definitely.
What I read: The Summer Wedding in Santorini by Samantha Parks
Why I picked it up: It had a pretty cover of one of my favorite travel places when I was looking for good reads on NetGalley.
How I read it: On e-galley – I received this book for free in exchange for my honest review.
What it’s about: Anna is an amazing, traveling photographer whose home base is with Nikos on the Greek Island of Santorini. The night she gets home her best friend gets engaged at her house (at a surprise party) which sets off a series of events that test Anna’s relationship. They both want something different for the future and they refuse to speak their desires aloud so that they could be met by the other.
What I liked: I loved the setting. Santorini is an amazing island and I loved being able to go back there for a little while.
What I disliked: They kept saying “we need to have this conversation but not now” and then proceeded to be upset with each other for days – like five times – and it just annoyed me so much.
Genre: Closed door romance, travel, island life, wedding season.
Rating & Recommendation: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ and not really. Maybe if you’d already read the first book in the series – you might root for them more, but I don’t think this really added to my reading life.
This is a good book. I enjoyed the flow of the story, it had well rounded robust characters, a good dose of fun and romance and is a all round general good read.
I liked the setting of the book, but I really do not feel like it was specific to Santorini. Nikos is concerned about Anna traveling for work, but that stereotype should be long gone. Women can travel and be successful for work. I felt like their problems were way too drawn out and could have been summed up a lot quicker. It was a lack of communication on their part. Just was not for me.
I did not enjoy this book as much as the first in this series. The relationship problems between Anna and Nikos were so drawn out it became boring. The descriptions of the Island and the other relationships in the story made me read until the end.
Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Collins UK for the advance copy of this book.
Another captivating sequel in this series. it was so easy to imagine all these beautiful settings described in this book and the storyline always left me guessing how it would end. I appreciated that the main characters were committed to the relationship, but just not sure how to clearly communication with the other how they were feeling. It is easy in a relationship for one to get to a point of giving up, but this storyline was refreshing that this wasn't the case. Another great book from Samantha Parks that had me reading late into the evenings wanting to see what would happen next!
I didnt realise this was a sequel but I don't think it hindered my understanding of the book. I enjoyed it but felt that the story between Anna and Nikos was drawn out too long and could have been set anywhere really.
I did find some of the parts uncomfortable reading as I felt the author was trying to promote female values and independence but there was a lot of bitchiness, bullying and exclusion included.
I would have preferred a more light hearted but mysterious storyline.
A nice easy read but didn't particularly like the two main characters, unfortunately I hadn't read the first book, didn't realise this was the second.
It didn't keep me on the edge of my seat but there again it wasn't that type of book.
Thank you to Netgalley and Harper Collins OMC for this ARC.
Sorry, I didn't enjoy this one at all.
The information dump at the start of the book turned me off, but then I just found it progressively more and more boring. Anna and Nikos have been together for ages, but can't communicate their way out of a paperbag.
Also, there isn't enough indication that this is book two. I haven't read the first one, and while you apparently don't need it, it's hard to start a book and get into it if the author isn't helping you to like the characters. I didn't like Anna or Nikos, but perhaps reading the first book first would have helped...? Unsure, but regardless, didn't enjoy.
This was my first Samantha Parks book and it was a delight. I love meeting a couple already together without the whirlwind drama of the will they won't they. Although this book has that in another way as we see Anna and Nikos try and figure out if their futures include each other.
This was a delightful read set in a beautiful place that truly jumps off the page. I wished I could go to Santorini from the jump and Samantha just makes it truly come alive.
