This is a fun book written from the perspective of a dictionary about a boy who has an appreciation for words. It's also a sweet story about a sibling relationship. I think it will spark young readers' curiosity about dictionaries and vocabulary.

‘Calvin Gets the Last Word’ by Margo Sorenson is a joyous examination of a boy, his brother, and the best ways to describe them both. Mike Deas’ illustrations help capture the mischief of young kids, while the story highlights ways to help out and be kind. A wonderful introduction to loving words themselves while subtly growing vocabularies of young readers.

This book is told from a dictionary's perspective. The dictionary belongs to Calvin and he loves words! Such rich vocabulary in this story and I love it! I can't wait to read this book to my first graders!

Charming illustrations and a wonderful celebration of beautiful words. This could easily be included in a classroom library or as a mentor text for a unit on word choice (with built-in vocabulary).

Logophile Calvin carries his dictionary everywhere he goes — even to a baseball game! Calvin’s older brother keeps playing pranks on him, and Calvin wants to get even. I dare not say anything else because the ending packs quite a surprise. I love this book, and my students will, too!

I really like that this book introduces young children to larger more complicated words in a fun way. Calvin is trying to find the perfect word for his brother, so we hear about the search from the dictionary. This story was really cute and fun to read. I love the ending.

Our narrator, the dictionary, is a logophile and the perfect companion for Clavin who is in desperate need to find a word that describes his pain of a brother. The story, colourful text, and gorgeous illustrations will captivate young readers.

I love this book. I love word as well. This was a fun book that teaches kids some new words. Also has them guessing what the perfect word would be.

I like the dictionary theme and the introduction of vocab words, but the story could have come together better. Enjoyed the art and Calvin's prank-based relationship with his brother.

This delightful unique book is narrated by a very tired dictionary. Why is he so exhausted? Calvin, his owner, is always searching for the proper word to describe his mischievious big brother.

Calvin takes his dictionary everywhere with him trying to find the perfect word. Which one would be apropos for a scallywag who tells a joke when your mouth is full of milk causing you to laugh so hard that the milk shoots all over the breakfast table? It's payback time. Calvin keeps probing the pages. Will he be successful?

Being someone who also loves words and working with words daily I can totally identify with Calvin. It's so important to choose the correct one. The author weaves large bold coloured words throughout the book that pop out at the reader. No, they are not a proper fit to describe his brother so Calvin presses on! Highlighting those select words hopefully will prod the reader to discover their mean which will increase their own vocabulary skills.

The illustrations are kid-friendly, full of expression and detail. I love this heartwarming book as it blends fun, education, imagination, and a love of family into the tale. Highly recommended.

Calvin Gets The Last Word would be a great story to read before introducing the dictionary to children. Children may also enjoy looking up some of the new words that they are introduced to in the story.

Super cute easy read about brotherly love and sibling rivalry. The story is essentially told from the point of view of the dictionary which is a cute little twist. The dictionary occumpanies Calvin everywhere is currently searching for the perfect word to describe his big brother. The book has a handful of terms that are featured in bold colors in hopes to catch a young readers eye and teach them a new word. I ABSOLUTLEY LOVE that it does this!

At its core its children book about the love of words and building your vocabulary. I think the books concept is stellar and just hands down a nice little read.

This book simply made me happy. From subterfuge in the library to being courageous on the school bus to why Calvin’s dictionary is covered in stains and wrinkles, join Calvin as he find what word fits his brother. Sheer joy of words and family. Love this one!

Calvin loves his dictionary! He eats with it, sleeps with it, takes it to school and even to baseball practice! This is why Calvin knows so many words! Words like bewilderment, subterfuge, and hilarity. But can he find the right word to describe his big brother who likes to tell jokes at the kitchen table when Calvin's mouth is full of milk, or even worse, broccoli!

In this adorable story we join Calvin and his dictionary as they go through their daily routine. The rainy day Illustrated scenes in the story make for quite a cozy read!

Calvin is looking for just the right word for his relationship with his brother. The story takes place over the course of a day, and Calvin learns many words a long the way. I like that the stpry is entertaining and educational for children.

I love books that assume that kids want to learn new, longer, more descriptive words. This book tells the story of a younger brother trying to come up with a word to describe how he feels about his brother making him laugh just as his mouth is full of milk.

(I would have thought Calvin would have consulted a thesaurus instead of a dictionary, but it still all works)

So, while Calvin searches for just for the right word, the picture book illustrates the words he finds, but doesn't want to use. Or rather, the dictionary finds.

A cute story of love of language, and love for siblings, even if they do want to make you laugh so hard milk comes out of your nose.

This is a super creative storybook about a mischievous boy and his brother who looks for the perfect word to describe him. Very cute and easy to follow as it introduces tough words in bold letters. Enjoyed it.

Absolutely wonderful! This book is told from the perspective of a dictionary. No, that’s not a metaphor, it’s the point of view of an actual dictionary. Calvin carries it around everywhere to find the perfect word for his brother. This would be a great book to discuss context clues in class.

This is such a wonderful book. The pictures are adorable and the story was so cute. It's rare to find a book that both the kids and I find funny. We all loved this book.
