Unfortunately this was a DNF for me *insert crying face here*.
I adored the TV series of younger & I went into this with high expectations - but I struggled & just couldn’t get in to it.
I think my failure was going from TV series to book, rather than reading the first book before reading this.
I still recommend if your a fan of the series - just try the book first ;)
4.5 Stars. Older such a fun story! I admit I haven't read the prequel, Younger, or seen the TV show but this was still an entertaining book. I'm looking forward to catching up on the first book. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my digital copy.
Pamela Redmond's fictionalized memoir Older is a hotly anticipated sequel to her earlier successful contemporary romcom Younger (made into a popular 2015 TV series) - which picks up on the story of a midlife woman who poses as a millennial in order to re-enter the work force after years at home raising her daughter....
Fact and fiction interweave in both stories in a tantalising and entertaining narrative. In Younger Liza lands an entry-level job in publishing and scores a hot romance with a much younger man which founders on the rocks of different life goals when her true age is revealed (he wants kids, she doesn't.)
Older advances the story by five years. Redmond's sparky creative alter ego is preparing to reinvent herself at her true age and life stage after taking time out in a Maine cabin to "find herself". 245 days out from her 50th birthday, with her first grandchild on the way. Liza decides it's "Time to grow up and own my real age, my real self, in time for the big birthday.'
She starts with a life-imitating-art scenario - she's sold the TV rights to her novel Younger and is off to either Los Angeles or New York to write the script and assist in the production. But while her situation entering her sixth decade looks rosy, she is still caught in modern women's common dilemmas, in creating lives for themselves that even in mid life successfully balance career and family. She is torn between pitching for the stars, or sacrificial devotion to her first grandchild. She has to decide whether it's too late to go to the ball, or if she even wants to.
The story is carried along with sparkling humour, but it's underscored by sensitive and intelligent commentary about the underlying contradictions and challenges facing women on the cusp of 50...
The Younger TV series was billed as a "Sex In The City proxy show" and Older has the same racy and voguish awareness of media, fashion and dating trends as the prototype.
A fun quick read, Older gives us a peak into show biz, as well as racy urban adventure. Paced with sparkling dialogue and comic social set ups, it combines sizzling entertainment with enough heart-searching to keep it relatable. An enjoyable romp.
Thanks to Netgalley and Hachette Australia for a review copy.
Such a fun, clever, charming sequel! So clever how the plot is basically based on Younger being made into a TV series which obviously actually happened!
Liza has metamorphised from her "younger" self, and is faced with some major life choices as she resumes her "old(er)" life.
As a fan of the show, I thought this was a fun follow up which showed me how Liza ended up after she stopped being younger, although I admit I did not read Younger before watching the TV series so was kind of heartbroken to realise Charles didn't feature in the first book at all and was added to the series by TV producers (SOB!) BUT Liza going to LA and falling for the actor who is going to portray her boss in the series the author pays a huge homage to the TV producers by almost replicating this scenario. LOVE IT!
Liza, now turning 50, has published her first book (which was optioned for TV by BFF Kelsey), and she was becoming a grandmother (how annoying and spoiled is Caitlin by the way??) There were so many things going on in various parts of Liza's life, many positive, but she was still uncertain about her future. I love the way the turns it took towards the end, and I was left overjoyed and excited about Liza's future, and glad she started thinking about herself and her wants and needs for the future.
An absolutely fabulous read and highly recommended 5/5 for me and a huge thanks to Netgalley for the ADR :)
As a fan of the tv show Younger, I was super excited to get my hand on this review copy of Older. I haven't read the first book or quite finished all of the seasons of the show but didn't find that to be a problem at all.
Liza is approaching her 50th birthday, with her 'younger' life behind her, a successful book published and her grand baby due in a number of months, it is finally time to start living life as the real Liza. When Kelsey gives her the opportunity to bring Younger to the TV screen Liza is excited and sets off to Los Angeles to make it happen. However her work trip seems to morph into a second chance at being younger, with responsibilities being thrown out the window in favour of magic mushrooms and a sexy Hollywood movie star. Will Liza pull herself back to reality in time to support her daughter with the birth of her baby?
This was a fun, easy and quick read and I liked revisiting all my favourite characters to see 'where are they now'. Honestly, this book did put me off Liza a bit because she seemed quite selfish at times which annoyed me. Apart from that - great read!

I have to admit I have not watched the popular TV series Younger or read the book but I have heard about it, this book Older is the sequel to Younger !
Liza Miller is approaching her fiftieth birthday and it’s time to grow up and own her own age! Liza's bestselling novel has just been picked up by a producer to turn it into a TV show. Her novel is about Liza’s life where she tells of her experiences pretending to be a younger twenty something year old when she is really in her forties.
In this new book Older, Liza finds herself making some tough decisions when her daughter gives birth and selfishly expects Liza to babysit full time and give up her own career needs. What should she do, be a carer as expected by her family or be involved with the production of her story for TV?
There were some things I really liked about the book but also some not so great moments like Liza’s episode with hallucinogenic mushrooms, which seemed out of place.
A quick, comfortable read with a romantic ending.
Being a huge fan of the TV series, I had high expectations for this book and I think maybe that's where I went wrong as this wasn't anything like the TV series! As I hadn't read the first book Younger, I didn't realise the storyline and a lot of the main characters from the show weren't actually in the books and I think that's what disappointed me the most (I mean no Charles or Diana 😧). This was a quick read and I finished it in one sitting but I have to be honest and say that I didn't really enjoy where the characters storylines were taken especially Liza's. This may be because I have invested interest in the on-screen characters and with this being so different it really threw me off. I think in this instance I actually preferred the TV adaptation to the original books (sorry 😬!)
I am a huge fan of the series Younger and was so excited to read Older, however this was a bit of a let down. Although a quick easy read that I still found enjoyable enough, I think that I was expecting more of an engaging, rom-com kind of story that is/was a necessary ?follow on from the TV show. Thanks for the opportunity to read and provide an honest review.
I must confess I am a fan of ‘Younger’ (the book and the tv adaptation), so when I saw this sequel it was a no-brainer for me to pick it up and read it.
We catch up with Liza ‘older’ and after the fallout with Josh, after she’s written “Younger”, after Maggie is famous and after Kelsey is in LA and after Caitlin is married and expecting. Kelsey approaches Liza about producing “Younger” as a tv show and so begins Liza’s next chapter. As she is ‘older’ her new chapter includes trying not to be younger anymore, starting something old, starting something new, ending something old, ending something new, learning to be a mum, a grandmother, a best friend, a lover, a business woman and ultimately learning how to be “Older”.
This was a good read. I was exhausted by all of the things that Liza attempts or carries out in the relatively sort time period in the book. I did have a few things I didn’t enjoy particularly, including Kelsey and Josh’s story, the timeline and the rounding out of all the character’s lives with a certain finality, mainly because I felt it was a little unrealistic that some of those things would have happened. But that is not why you read this book. You read this book because you want to sit down and enjoy a light-hearted and fun look at a woman who wanted to be younger and who longs to find her place and enjoy her time now that she’s older.
I couldn’t put this down! Younger was a incredible show and I’m ashamed I didn’t know it was also a book! When I saw this on NetGalley I requested it instantly!
Liza’s third book is a fictional adaptation of her life and the lie she told to pose as a millennial to get a job! Never did she think her life would become a book, but now Kelsey wants it to be a TV show.
Liza struggles with wanting to be in New York with your family and friends but also in LA living her best life and being a carefree woman! Hollywood sweeps her off her feet as does Hugo. Dramatic actresses and script changes has Liza rethinking the whole idea.
Catlin goes into early labour and Liza rushes back to New York to be there. Thankfully Maggie was there to step it. She gives Liza the reality check she needs. She decides that she’s not going back to LA.
It would be younger without Josh and a love triangle. It’s so hard not to wrap this up without any spoilers, Life works out in the end, she’s happy and her family is healthy, bittersweet she lands her dream job and lives happily ever after at 50.
The second this was approved by the publisher I squealed with excitement and instantly devoured it! Thank you NetGalley
