Yet again Sheryl Browne has written an excellent psychological thriller which is every bit as good as her previous books.Cassie and Adam have a perfect life until one day they get a knock on their door every parent dreads Cassie's son and Adam's step son Josh has fallen under a train and has been killed, and then after the funeral Kim turns up with baby Samuel in her arms claiming he is Josh's son.At first Cassie is overjoyed to have a part of Josh but Kim has other things on her mind and when Cassie gets texts claiming to know the secret Cassie is keeping from everyone her life starts to unravel and eventually the secrets and lies Cassie has hidden for so long start to emerge,it is a well written psychological thriller which Sheryl Browne excels in and the plot races along to the climax and just when you think all is done and dusted with the story there is one last twist in the tale.I would recommend this book to fans of this genre,an excellent 4 star read.
When Cassie loses her son Josh, she is devastated. A woman, Kim shows up and claims to be his girlfriend with his Samuel. It seems like a miracle, a viable connection to her lost son. Soon, Cassie receives threatening notes about long buried secret. This person is watching her and exposure can mean losing her grandson. Can she find the writer of the threatening notes before her secret is exposed? Is Kim connected to the note writer? A intriguing novel that combines mystery and thriller elements that will keep the read spellbound. Be careful who you let into your home...Cassie hopes to ease her pain but has she opened herself to terror?
Love Sheryl Brown - stories that are so easy to get into and the New Girlfriend was no exception.
Cassie is mourning the sudden death of her son, Josh - her only child. His death has devastated her, her life has become meaningless. His death was suspected suicide, but Cassie and her husband - Adam, Josh's step father will never believe them.
Then, Kim arrives on her doorstep with a baby that is the image of Josh, Cassie sees some hope and wants to be involved in baby Samuel's life, but some things don't quite add up. Is Kim who she says she is?
Then there is Jemma and Ryan - old friends of Josh's who have also just had a baby. Jemma is struggling to bond with baby Liam.
What binds these people together is Josh...and what happened to him the night he died.
Great read with an explosive twists, you knew it was coming but you couldn't quite work out what was about to happen.
Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to review this book - this is my honest opinion.
What a great read to start over the holiday weekend. The New Girlfriend was a fast, enjoyable read that kept me guessing to the end.
This is the first of Sheryl Brown’s books that I have read but definitely won’t be the last.
Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and Sheryl Brown for the advanced copy in exchange for my review.
Thank you Bookouture and Net Galley for an early copy of The New Girlfriend. TWISTED!! There were only two good characters in this book and one died in the beginning. A lot of twists and turns, it got to be a little too much non-believing towards the end. I did figure out the main plot very early on but the last page made up for the craziness of the book, WOW! A very fast read.
Cassie loses her son in a train accident. She and her husband refuse to believe it was suicide. Shortly after the funeral Kim shows up at their house with a baby claiming it is their son Josh's. Lots of twists and turns. Leaves you wondering who is telling the truth and what did they really do. Couldn't wait for it all to unravel.
Thank you to netgalley, Sheryl Browne and Bookouture for the arc
This was a super interesting concept and I definitely didn't know where it was going to go. It was easy to read and nothing felt like it lasted too long or was too short.
The New Girlfriend is twisty and full of suspense. Sheryl Browne has crafted an original story that keeps the readers engrossed and guessing until the end.
This is the emotional and heart-stopping story of Cassie and Adam who, whilst mourning the tragic death of their son Josh, meet Kimberley, the girlfriend they didn’t know Josh had. Kimberley also has another shock for them when she introduces them to Josh’s baby son, Samuel. Cassie sees her new grandson as a way to carry on with life, but when she starts to receive mysterious texts threatening to reveal secrets Cassie has been hiding for years, she begins to fear she could lose everything.
I’ve read many of this author’s other books and have enjoyed them all. This one is no different and begins with a disturbing prologue where we see Josh tragically die. The prologue definitely paves the way for what we can expect throughout the rest of the book, giving us a story filled with plot twists, unanswered questions and lots of secrets and lies. The pace starts well at the beginning of the book and continues to build throughout. The storyline moves back and forth in time from present day to before Josh died. Each of the main characters appear to be hiding something, and I wasn’t quite sure who I felt suspicious of and who I felt I could trust. The story twists and turns, particularly as it reaches its conclusion and my opinions of what I felt was going on was changing with each turn of the page.
The author manages to keep the interest going pretty much throughout the whole book, with suspense and mystery filling out the chapters. Much as I tried, I couldn’t work the whole thing out correctly and as such, really didn’t see the ending coming! Full of secrets and lies, this book will keep you hooked until the very last page. Would definitely recommend!
this author never disappoint her readers very twisty mind Josh falls in front of a train police say suicide but his mum and step dad think not Josh is in love with a woman he cant have . then he meets Kimberley on the train who so wants him for her own Adam Josh stepdad does not know if to trust Kimberley when she turns up on there doorstep with Josh s baby boy this story is about lies deceit and secrets a must read
The story begins with Josh falling off the railway platform as the train pulls into the station. Cassie his mother, and stepfather, Adam, are devastated. They do not believe it was suicide.
At the funeral, Cassie notices a young woman who is not known to her, weeks later the woman, Kimberley, turns up at Cassie's front door with a young baby, she reveals to Cassie that the child is her grandson Samuel. Wanting to believe this, Cassie welcomes them in, but as time passes, she starts to doubt Kim and questions her motives.
The book is a perfect mix of all the elements you need to make a great suspenseful story. I highly recommend it.
I want to thank NetGalley, Bookouture and Sheryl Brown for a pre-publication copy to review.
I love Sheryls books but this one didn’t seem to grip me as much as her others. I pretty much worked out the plot very early in the book and was expecting to have a huge twist at the end making me theory not quite right, but that didn’t come.
I devoured this in one afternoon. I was captivated from the start and before I knew it I had finished. I don’t want to give anything away but it is fab- perfect for fans of psychological thrillers.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for my ARC in exchange for an honest review. Disappointing. This story had so much promise, but didn’t deliver. Most of the plot is somewhat predictable. It took me a while to get into and a little longer to finish than usual because of the lack of suspense. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t very good either. Most of the characters were
unlikeable and many plot points seemed unnecessary. Many of the twists weren’t terribly surprising. I also had issues with the plausibility of the actions and reactions the characters had throughout the story. This one missed the mark for me.
You know the feeling: authors you wish they would publish a new book every month because you can't wait to read a new one. Well, this author is one of them. Each time I see the announcement I am like a kid in a candy store! ;)
You choose your favorite candy and it always tastes amazing, just like stories by this author never disappoint.
There is a lot going on in this story and that confuses the reader in the best possible way. I did not see at first how all these things would come together, but I can assure you that they do and how!
Little by little a light bulb went on in my head but I never guessed what the author still had in store. You have to wait until the whole chandelier is lit to see for the umpteenth time what an incredible writer she is.
I think you already guessed it: this book too deserves 5 stars.
Thank you, Sheryl Browne and Bookouture
Cassie and Adam are mourning the tragic death of her son Josh. After his funeral Kimberly turns up at their house with baby Samuel claiming to be Josh’s girlfriend. Cassie now has a reason to carry on and is desperate to get to know her grandson. Why hadn’t Josh mentioned Kimberly?
Cassie receives mystery texts threatening to tell her past secrets. What is she hiding?
I loved the flow of the book and how it goes back to when Josh and Kimberly first met and how their relationship pans out. The two timelines help build the suspense and will keep you hooked.
There are twists and secrets galore. The ending left me with my mouth open and I had to read it twice before it sunk in!!
A must read book.
Thank you to Netgalley for my copy in exchange for a review.
Fair warning : don’t start, unless you can finish without any interruptions! I put any book from Sheryl Browne to the top of my reading list and this was one of her best yet, they keep getting twister and sicker. The New Girlfriend is a young vulnerable woman with a child. Cassie is a professional woman with an adoring husband Adam and an only son Josh from a previous relationship. Told from different points of view, in different timelines, we discover that a distracted Josh, falls on the railway track in tragic accident. Cassie and Adam are inconsolable and grieving, especially Cassie, who had recently fallen out with Josh after a silly disagreement, the type we all have with relatives, one which is now haunting her. A knock on the door reveals Kim, the namesake new girlfriend with a new born, Samuel, surprisingly Josh’s son. And so, off we go, delving into the various stories that lead to this point. Short chapters are deceiving addictive and you keep reading and reading, and wondering when you are not. Excellent, layered novel.
This is a typical Psychological Thriller where the main protagonist is losing her mind and has no support from anyone around her.
Cassie’s life is falling apart. She has lost her son, she has a million and one secrets in her closet and as everything unravels she is set to lose everything she holds dear.
All of the characters hold suspicion surrounding their actions. You can’t trust anyone. I had no idea what direction the book was going to take or what the secrets would be.
It’s a very twisty turn story, with all the characters having surprises up their sleeves. The end is quite complicated as everything is unravelled and revealed. However, you are left with no questions; everything is answered.
The book is quite slow, to begin with, but really does pick up pace as it goes along. I didn’t enjoy Cassie’s chapters as she did keep covering old ground and repeating herself. This may have been intentional to portray that she was losing her mind. We follow most of the characters at some point throughout the book in their own chapters. I found the past events of Josh, the most fascinating as this was really sewing the story together and giving us glimpses into the factual circumstances rather than the speculating going on in the present.
Overall, an excellent, suspenseful book that kept me glued to the page.
This book took me a few minutes to get into
But around 25% it picks up and never slows down. What did Cassie do? Why don’t I like Kim, instantly. What does Adam have to hide. There’s lots of secrets and twists and turns. This book was super good
4.5 📒📒📒📒⭐️ Good books from me
I will be reading more of Sheryl Brownes books for sure in the future.
Thank you to NETGalley for an ARC copy of this book for my honest review.
I really enjoyed this book and read it over an afternoon , I did find myself getting frustrated at some of the choices that were made at various times and felt very little sympathy for Cassie , even though I’m not sure why . Cassie’s son has died and she notices a young woman at the funeral , weeks later this girl turns up on Cassie’s doorstep with a young baby she tell’s Cassie is her grandson Samuel . Cassie really wants to believe this so asks very few questions and it’s only later in the book that she starts to question Kim and her motives . Cassie starts pushing Adam her husband away with wild accusations and increasingly questionable behaviour . It’s a great fast paced story , just as you would expect from the author .
