Justin and Rose’s chemistry is practically off the charts. These characters come to life and finding life after loss will drive them closer together.

Wow ! I am new to this author and this book gave me mixed feelings, I was expecting it to be more about two people coming together who have been put through a lot, and well it was that and more. I don’t know if it had as much romance as I expected in the story but it was very well written and definitely breaks your heart a bit! Can’t wait to finish the duet
Rose and Justin’s relationship is not typical by any means if that is what you’re looking for. If you are looking for a hero in Justin you may be disappointed because he’s bruised. That doesn’t mean he isn’t good, his edges just need some polishing.
There are some gaps and holes in the plot that I’m questioning as well with Justin that hopefully get answered soon.
I read this ARC for an honest review
All thoughts and opinions are mine
This is a new author for me and I thoroughly enjoyed this so will be looking out for more from them.
I was very quickly immersed in the book and time just flew by - couldn't put this down
Loved the characters and the story
A very enjoyable afternoon spent reading this in the garden
What I love –the main characters are flawed but endearing; there is angst, tragedy and love but especially understanding and acceptance
What I did not – nothing, but if it had to pick, the ending because I wanted it to continue. by the way, I LOVED the ending.
OMG I really loved this story. I like my contemporary romances to have a bit of grit and OH BOY does this deliver. The story opens with Rose, a single mother of 2, a 4 year old and a 6 month old, and is grieving the loss of her husband, 6 months prior, struggling to support herself and the kids. She is trying to get herself and kids ready because she is staring a new job that morning. Although it is not specifically spelled out or diagnosed, but I think it is a safe to say Rose is dealing with some sort of depression as we are privy to her the voices she hears in her head that berate her almost to the point of suicide. In attempt to quite the voices, she screams out loud just as Justin is walking by her house. Justin hears Rose’s scream and rushing into the house to assist her and once he is sure no one else is in the house he notices the folded flag, and understanding, apologizes, then walks out. Rose finally makes into her new job 10 minutes late and as the fates would have it, Justin is her new boss. As the story unfolds, we find out Justin was in the military and that lost is wife and child in an accident 6 years prior. Although Justin and Rose are very much drawn to each other there is a lot of push and pull between them. This makes sense - Rose because her husband death was so recent and the more, we find out about Justin’s past we see his flawed reasoning for pulling away from Rose as well as his inability to stay away. Although Justin seems like he is put together, he is not, in fact, I think is more messed up than Rose because he as a lot of demons from his past.
Justin and Rose’s journey to each other is so compelling and beautifully imperfect. They are both hot messes, however they help each other with unselfish patience, love and understanding. One cannot help but root for them to have a happy ever after but HA there is that ending. So good, so very good – LOVED IT!!! It is not often that I am surprised, and this surprised me. This book was already a 5 star for me but with that ending if I could, I would give it 6 stars. Bravo Ms. Montgomery!!! I cannot wait for the next book.
I was provided an ARC of this book from NetGalley for my truthful review and the above is my honest opinion of said book.
Complementary copy given for honest review and opinion from Netgalley.
Warning! This is a two part series. It has a cliffhanger that will make you hurt for the characters. I love the mental health awareness aspect of this book.
Resurrection is a unique and quite interesting romance. Good writing and solid characters. Enjoyed the story
This book is a real page turner.
Literally read it in one sitting.
Could not put it down.
I would absolutely recommend this book to friends and family
Having known that Resurrection was part of a series, I wasn't surprised that the book ended in a cliffhanger. It also left me out of breath and a little shaky. In a few words: intense, heartbreaking and gripping. Maybe even a bit too intense for me. Rose is struggling with her mental illness, having added stress because of the death of her husband (in the military). She tries to get a job at Justin's office and there is an instant attraction.
Justin, as an ex-SEAL, also has a lot of bagage and he doesn't feel worthy of Rose. But he can't stand by and see Rose drown in her sorrows. Therefore, he steps in to help her.
As I said, maybe a bit too intense for me and the twists in the end is a bit 'out of the blue' for me. Maybe in the second part (Awakening) I will get the answers. In all three stars out of five from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc.
I don't know what has just happened...
Well, I will start from the beginning:
Saying that Rose's life is hard would be the understatement of the year.
Justin is Rose's boss. And his life has been tough, too. Both of them are scarred. And even though they may feel they are not ready for each other, life and love have another idea.
I thought I was reading a second chance romance. I thought it was a story about healing after you are broken by life. And suddenly, bam! What was that on the last paragraph??
I need to start the second book right now.
I would say this is a solid 3.5 just because of the cliffhanger ending that shook me as a mom bc I couldn’t imagine my kid being taken.
Rose & Justin have a gritty love, one that’s not perfect and takes time. Rose has walls that Justin has to work at bringing down. It’s a painful experience but worth the ride.
Resurrection is Book 1 of a duet by Evelyn Montgomery. This book does in a cliffhanger with issues resolves in the 2nd book. Resurrection is full of angst with both main characters who are equally broken and grappling with issues. I would say this book is a slow-burn, might be off putting to some but if you push through you can still enjoy it.
All in all this wasn’t my fav read ever but I did enjoy it. Life got in the way and slowed me down and perhaps that’s why I failed to really click with the characters the way I wish I had. I will be picking up the next book though. I’m aiming to do a reread and give this another chance before I move to book 2 as well.
Love romance and this duet was perfect. This book blew me away! I was unable to but it down. Perfect, dazzlingly, very well written. The details the author described throughout the book was so amazing. The characters and storyline were fantastic. The ending I did not see coming Truly Amazing and appreciated the whole story. This is going to be a must read for many many readers.
Resurrection is the first in a duet of books, the second being Awakening. This first book tells the beginning of the relationship between Rose and Justin. They have both suffered a great deal of pain. Rose is still struggling through the depths of loss and grief. Justin appears like a saviour who can help her to overcome her past, but it soon becomes clear that he has as much from his own past to deal with.
I loved the growing relationship between the two. The way that they actually made each other stronger and supported each other as they came to terms with all that they have faced. As the book neared the end, it was clear that something was going to happen to disrupt everything. Not because it was necessarily needed, but more because everything between them had moved fast and there was another book still to come. It was at this point that the whole thing seemed to suddenly change into a completely different type of story.
I have to admit that this ending took me by surprise, it seemed out of step with much of the rest of the book. That said, I'm keen to know what is going to happen next for Rose and Justin.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
2.5 Stars
Before picking up this book, please make not that it contains themes of suicide and suicidal ideation, as well as a cliffhanger.
Don't let this cover fool you, this book might not be what you think it is. I went into this thinking the book would be about two damaged souls that find themselves and have a bunch of steamy sex (there a little) in the process, that's not exactly what happens. This is a story about two people who have been through difficult times which have left them deeply distraught and are learn to face their demons and deep rooted insecurities. Rose and Justin do eventually find each other and themselves, but not before a lot of internal struggling first.
For the majority of this book I felt anxious and had a pit in my stomach, even during the "happier" parts. The characters were constantly lost in their deep internal struggles which honestly made it harder for me to really get lost in the story. There were so many internal struggles/tirades that they felt redundant and flat, which made the overall storyline much slower paced than it should have been. I also found some of the scenarios to be a bit extreme and unrealistic, especially how they met.
I have to give it to the author though, the way that she wrote in the cliffhanger was very wise on her part. I was ready to walk away from the characters and not read the second book, until the ending came. She wrote it in such a way that I couldn't not see what happened next.
*I was gifted a copy of this book by NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinions.*
ARC received for review
Rose and Justin have the weirdest relationship. Rose is seriously in her head way too much, and Justin isn't much better. They go through all their angsty drama and then bam cliffy. Who the heck is Luca? And when was Justin in Italy?
The characters aren’t fully developed and their actions just aren’t believable. I couldn’t get into it.
I received a copy of Resurrection by Evelyn Montgomery from NetGalley for my review.
The story follows Justin and Rose. Both of which have heartbreaking pasts and have lost their spouses. As a military wife, I wasn't sure how I'd feel about the military aspect of the plot line. It's mentioned, but it's brief. The story is of course how they come together and work to overcome their pasts.
While I enjoyed the first part of the book, the ending took a turn for the worse. It started off as a slow burn, workplace romance, but the ending was rushed and the author threw in a twist that I felt was unnecessary.
I also received book 2. I'm undecided at this point if I want to spend a couple more hours with this story and characters just to be further let down.
