I really wasnt a fan of this. The poly aspect was a good idea but it was really unrealistic and wasnt very good representation of poly couples as the relationships are very unhealthy.

This one was a miss for me—while I found the premise fascinating, I struggled with the lack of direction in the plot, and didn’t feel like the character study was deepening either so was confused by the point mostly. While I appreciate the overlapping narratives bled into the writing in a very literal way—the constant jumps in trains of thought in some scenes and the way that these often led into an unfinished sentence or dialogue—it started to feel noticeable, and almost like there was an over reliance on ellipsis. .

Unfortunately, I was unaware of the expiry dates of Netgalley ARCs, so I was only able to finish the first two-thirds of the novel. However, my feelings towards the book were consistent throughout. Unfortunately, this was a big miss for me, while I was excited to read a book about a polygamous couple, I did not feel that this book rightfully or respectfully demonstrated polygamous relationships.

The lack of communication within the book and the disgustingly hypocritical nature of the main character is far from the true aspects of a healthy polygamous relationship. His and his wife’s inability to listen to each other and to compromise made this book almost unreadable for me.

One particular scene which I think shouldn’t have even made it into the book, is in which the husband momentarily contemplates lying on top of his wife (who he admits would not be strong enough to push him off) and forcing her into non-consensual intercourse. Not only is this a horrible representation of the poly community but also of a healthy relationship. Neither of them should be with the other. Disappointed.
