Poor little rich girl loses her parents. She goes on to make mistake after mistake in her choice of men, until she realizes the right one has been there all along. If you are looking for a light book with no surprises this is it. It is predictable from beginning to end. Thank you to net galley for an advanced copy.
Thank you to Net Galley for allowing me to review this book.
Cici's easy breezy life is forever changed when her parents die in a terrorist attack. That's the most interesting part of the whole book, and it's basically glossed over in the first chapter to set up to leave Cici alone and vulnerable.
I know when I am reading a Danielle Steel book that it's not going to be literary genius. I don't expect that, especially not lately. However, this book was a waste of paper. The story isn't new, at all, and Steel has done shades of this storyline several time. Poor little rich girl is taken advantage of by big, bad men who want her money! Honestly, I knew how this book would turn out within the first pages, and I'm angry that I wasted hours reading the middle of the book when I could have read the first five pages and the last five pages and not missed a single thing.
Danielle Steel helped feed my addiction to reading as I was growing up. I loved getting lost in her love stories. All That Glitters took me back to those days. It’s the type of story that made me fall in love with Danielle Steel.
In All That Glitters, we watch Coco and Sam’s friendship help them through tragedy, heartache, family, and bad decisions. The book made me want to know what happens to Coco and Sam after it was over. To continue reading about their lives.
I really enjoyed All That Glitters. It was a sweet, refreshing story.
All That Glitters by Danielle Steel is a coming of age story about Nicole "Coco" Martin and her lifelong best friend, Sam. Coco's parents are killed in a terrorist attack while on their yearly trip to Paris, a trip Coco normally would have accompanied them on. After a whirlwind affair with a trusted family friend, Coco takes an internship in London, while Sam stays behind in New York to work in his father's company.
They each end up in marriages that were not meant to be, Coco married to a charming scammer and Sam to a woman he feels he owes marriage to who ultimately blames him for their life. Coco gives birth to a daughter and continues to end up in relationships that offer glitter but no substance until she realizes what was always there.
This is another good read by Danielle Steel, one of my favorite and dependable authors.
Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine
Delacorte Press for the opportunity to read this ARC.
All that Glitters reminds me of the old Danielle Steel books that made me a huge Danielle Steel fan. The book has glamour, love and tragedy.
The story is about Coco and Sam, after the loss of Cocos parents she turns to relationships with men that are not a good fit for her. As a reader it was hard to see her staying with those men and not seeing them for what they really are and for her to keep falling so fast for the wrong men. Sam is her friend that stays by her side through it all, while having his own personal hardships to deal with. I saw the ending coming but was glad that I guessed correctly.
A delightful easygoing read that is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Random House for the ARC of this book for my honest review. 4 out of 5 star!!
This is a book that I just got lost in. I was connected to Coco from the beginning. I felt her loss and moved through life with her. Steel's writing in this book really created a made for tv movie in my mind that I have been needing lately!
Coco and Sams lives as we see through the years have been filled with triumphs and heartbreaks! As Coco find herself she also discovers she has a thing for the “flash”! She falls for men far too easily and this leads to some heartbreaking moments in her life, but through it all she has Sam!
I loved seeing Coco grow and learn from her life and her past mistakes!
One thing is I wish we would’ve gotten more of when they finally discovered love was right there all along! I feel we just got a morsel and I wanted to see more. Overall though it was a very sweet and emotional read.
Loved reading the sensational and glittering romance novel by the phenomenal and extraordinary author, Danielle Steel. When Coco's parents die tragically, her best friend, Sam is there to be with her. Coco falls for her flashy financial advisor, Ed, which she finds out he has no intention of divorcing his wife, then falls for a good for nothing flashy man, Nigel, who she ends up marrying and finds out he only married her for her money, has a child, divorces him, and Coco gets custody of her child. Sam follows what his parents want him to do, stay in the business, marry the girl they want him to marry, Tamar, and have four children, but when he finds out she's having an affair with a rabbi and wants a divorce, Sam is crushed. Throughout Coco and Sam's lives, they have both been there for each other but both make the wrong choices in love. Read the highly recommended, wonderfully written, riveting and engaging story with captivating characters, full of heart-break and passion, and a must read love story.
I reviewed a copy of the book through NetGalley.
There is just something about reading Danielle Steel’s books that is so comforting. It’s like taking that first sip of coffee and feeling it slide down your throat and warm you up and soothe you. It’s like being enveloped in a hug by someone you love. It’s like coming home after a long day and getting greeted by a beloved pet who’s been eagerly awaiting your arrival, and finally getting to settle down and get comfortable and feel all of your worries from the day melt away. Her books are comfort food for the soul, and you can always count on them to make you feel better and take you away from your worries and troubles.
Although her books have become a bit formulaic and predictable, that doesn’t make them any less enjoyable to read, and doesn’t take the pleasure away from the reading experience.
Although my favorite book of hers will always be Zoya (I don’t know if she can ever write another book that will replace that one in my heart) I did enjoy this one immensely, and found myself deeply compelled by Coco’s story from start to finish.
Coco’s story is an engaging one. A tale of an affluent girl who suffers tragedy at a young age, leading her down a path of bad decisions as she navigates life through the grief process. But despite her many setbacks, complications, and downfalls, she ultimately ends up stronger and triumphing after all is said and done.
This book is a bittersweet tale about a girl weaving her way through trauma, love affairs, and everything in between.
Told in typical Danielle Steel fashion, it all wrapped up neatly with a pretty bow in the end, but nevertheless, I was mesmerized as I experienced it all alongside Coco.
Lovely story about a strong young lady overcoming tragedy and the many obstacles that life throws your way.
Highly recommend!
Coco is a unique and affluent character that has to find her way after losing her parents at a young age. She has a best friend named Sam that is there for her every step of the way through her relationships and marriage although she decides to live in London and far away from him. She is a strong character, but seems a little detached from what she is going through at times. I felt that she lacked emotion and just seemed to deal quickly and move on. I did not care much for the ending. It just seemed to tie up out of nowhere and there just didn't seem to be much rationality. I will always love Danielle Steel books, but this one just fell a little flat for me. Thanks for the ARC, NetGalley.
An easy, predictable read that still manages to be engaging. A tale of suffering through adversity and making it out on the other side better and stronger. Fans of Danielle Steele are in for a treat. Well written and inspiring. Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to review this ARC.
If I could give All That Glitters six stars, I would! Danielle Steel's latest novel is a hit.
Nicole, affectionately called Coco by her family & close friends is blindsided by the sudden loss of her parents. She heads to London for an internship and she can afford it thanks to the inheritance left by her parents. She quickly meets a man who seems wonderful, but is he really? As Coco travels through life without the guidance of her parents she gets to know herself, her types and her motives, she's thankful to have her best friend from New York a phone call away.
Another easy read. Enjoyed it but very predictable. Quick story of another list another love. A sad tell but for some reason sounds and reads familiar. Not my favorite but glad I got to read it. Thanks to Netgalley and St. Martins Press.
All That Glitters follows the life of Coco. She takes a tragic event and finds a way to make it through life and all the events that follow. I loved the ending of the book. It was a story that a lot of people can relate to in their own ways. Classic Danielle Steel.
I was given an ARC of this book in return for writing this review.. I
have been reading Danielle Steel's books for over 35 years. To me reading one of her novels is kind of like eating a doughnut. You know what to expect from the experience, and every once in a while the urge to consume one is irresistible. In this book Nicole Martin (Coco) loses her parents in a terrorist attack during the summer before her senior year of college at Columbia University. We follow her relationship with her best friend Sam Stein through many ups and downs during her twenties and early thirties. She travels and lives in some beautiful venues in Europe and New York. The pain from the early loss of her parents leads her to be attracted to men who are all "flash" and no substance and provide her no support system or real love. Will she end up with one of these men or Sam? Will she ever realize what is really important to her and what she values? If you enjoy Danielle Steel's novels you will enjoy this book. It is a quick escapist read.
I am a Danielle Steel lover. This one didn't disappoint. The story is a realistic telling of what happens when someone experiences tragedy in their life and is able to waddle through the peak and valleys of the grief process. Ultimately thriving in the end, I loved the relationship between the two main characters. Their relationship was sweet as it developed. I could relate to the families because Sam's family reminded me of my own. I would definitely recommend this book, Enjoy!
All That Glitters is a soothing Steel read. Coco suffers a major tragedy, but her stalwart friend Sam is by her side constantly. She makes bad decisions in relationships while steering a new career path. Sam follows his family's wishes and pays a price. I was waiting for what I knew would happen and it finally did, at the end of the book. Coco was a flat character and the ending lacked pizzaz. I liked Sam the best.
I needed a light, easy read right now, and I knew that Danielle Steel was just the thing! This was a wonderful story about a young girl named Coco and her plight throughout her life. Steel did a masterful job weaving in the many mistakes of Coco...in love and life. This book was a much appreciated distraction for me during a very busy and chaotic time in my life. I grew up reading Danielle Steel and had stopped for some time. But I am glad I took the time to read this one. She never disappoints. This was an ARC book, given to me in trade for my honest opinion. Thank you to the author, publisher and Netgalley.com for giving me the opportunity.
Another day, another Danielle Steel. I absolutely love her books!
The tragic story of Coco's life is one for the ages. A privileged upbringing, trauma, love affairs and finally connecting with her soulmate, I can see this being turned into a movie. Switching between London and NYC, Coco's life is complicated, but in typical Steel fashion, it wrapped up in a pretty red bow in the end.
If you love Danielle Steel as much as I do, go grab a copy of this book!
I received a free copy from NetGalley in exchange for a honest review.
This book started out as one I wanted to rush though because I was enjoying it but then wanted to stop and savor it. I got to the end of a few chapters and just had to take a deep breath before turning the page as I knew what the next page would say.
The friendship between Coco and Sam, is one many dream of, it was so nice to see them always there for each other, regardless of their backgrounds and all that surrounded them.
This book focused mainly on Coco and her life, her perfect life changes with a phone call and how she lives the next many years, finding 'flash' in men and figuring things out.
My struggle with this one was I really wanted to a book about a great friendship that didn't after all those years turn to love, it was just a little unrealistic to me.
Solid 3.5 stars
